Do you guys have problems with the Vulture running low on power with that large weapon?

Yeah, the Vulture rides a knifes edge with the power.  It's the only drawback it has.

BTW, here is my current Python build.  This is after spending a while upgrading it for pure combat.  Trade versions are much cheaper.

And that's with the Beta insurance.

The way I approach that is simple, don't die.   8)

Beat me too it. Just got the news letter. Also, planets will be 1:1 both in size as well as gravity. The latter affecting operation of vehicles

This game was seriously doing everything it could to piss me off tonight. I left the faction I was with wit the knowledge I would be hunted by that faction for a day last night. So tonight I'm hunting pirates for a mission with a 2.5 hour time limit. I'm heading to a station 2,700LS away to rearm. I'd get interdicted by a Torval Shield assassin, it wouldn't attack and I'd fly away and re-enter supercruise after my frameshift drive cooled. 5-10 seconds later the same thing would happen. After about 20 time and making absolutely no progress towards the station I just alt-f4ed during the next interdiction. During one of the interdiction I did manage to fire at it and got tagged as wanted. Not a first good impression after being gone for a few months.
PanzersEast: Have to think to myself.... will I play the first one by the Winter Sale?  Probably not, then I should remove Dragonfall
PanzersEast: but that is thinking too logically.... and Steam Sales are about ignoring Logic

This is the problem with powerplay, and why I don't pledge. It's a BAD system

If I can ask the Elite veterans a question -- how do you guys prefer to play, Solo (all NPCs) or the full online experience?

I've been having fun with Reb. Galaxy and decided I really want to give Elite a second go. Having put in some more time, I have to say I'm genuinely awestruck at how immense the game is. Just perusing Galnet alone gave me a 'holy s**t the depth here is pretty unbelievable' moment.

Is playing "Solo" too lifeless compared to full online? It seems safer to me as a complete newb, not having to contend with actually intelligent human players.

I am completely satisfied playing solo exclusively. However, playing online will probably give you a more complete experience, as among other things, you can form wings, guilds and actually declare ownership of certain sectors of space.

Good to know -- I'll stick with Solo for the time being.

Any nuggets of wisdom for a newb trying to get his feet off the ground? The limitations of the Sidewinder make it hard to know where to start 'career' wise. Hard to earn credits with such a small cargo capacity, and in any event the profit margins on most of the commodities seems awfully small, if I want to trade within local systems (which I assume I do, unless there is some highly prosperous system I should head for right away?)

Whenever I check Bulletins, most of the missions are unavailable -- and often the ones that are available seem way out of my league (which makes me wonder why they're available to me in the first place -- I'm not going to go and assassinate some pirate lord in my dinky sidewinder -- why offer that as a 'doable' mission?)

A reasonable goal seems to try to earn enough for a Cobra, since that seems a ship versatile enough to accommodate multiple playstyles (trader, bounty hunter, etc.).  Bounty hunting in the Sidewinder strikes me as... unwise.

I don't mind some grinding -- but I just don't have any real sense of what an efficient way of earning money early on is, beyond being constantly on the lookout for missions, which seem total luck of the draw, and 'available' missions not plentiful to begin with.

undercovergeek

try and upgrade to a hauler or an adder asap - then the worlds your oyster

move to another system for better bulletin missions - youre looking for the simplest of courier missions just to get you on the ladder
