Hey Guys,
I haven't posted here for awhile, but I thought I'd call your attention to this. More than a week ago over at SimHQ 33lima posted info on a new forum and new mods for the tanksim Steel Fury 1942.
Like many of you here I've used the old mods like NTA. Now, lockie who along with a few others has set up a new website and upgraded and improved the mods along with adding more missions. And there will be more to come. The whole process is streamlined and more user friendly than in the past. The new mod is now named STA1.0 for Steel Tank Addon. There are three missions packs (GMP) available with over 150 missions as well as many weather mods.
I've worked with lockie over the last couple days and we've managed to fix a couple problems with running SF (old 32-bit program) on newer OS like my Win7 64-bit. Vanilla SF will run just fine. However depending on your system you may experience problems with using all of the mods.
The new forum is here with all the download links:
http://stasf2008.ephpbb.com
Some caveats: You will need to register on the forum. Otherwise, when you go to the 4share site to DL you will get so many pop-ups you may not even be able to DL at all.
The 1st Mission pack may not be available yet as lockie is adding more missions. I say may not because for some odd reason I the link for GMP1 was active on my laptop but not active on my desktop gaming rig. Go figure.
On the forum you will find some fixes that lockie and I have posted for any problems you might have.
The mods and order of install in JSGME are as follows:
1) Steel Sound Mod (optional, see caveat below)
2) Any and all GMPs
3) STA 1.0
4) any and all weather mods (optional)
On the Steel Sound Mod: On my Win7 64-bit OS I'm using 8GB RAM. I can run most of the mission packs using the sound mod. However, there are several that will not run with the Sound Mod activated. If you run into this problem disable the Sound Mod. Of course if you have more RAM you may be OK. It seems that 32-bit SF seems to hog memory on my 64-bit system for some reason. Your mileage may vary.
If you want to use the Sound Mod for SF: In the FAQ on the forum we've posted a fix using the 4GB patch that is available for download.
Enjoy and happy hunting!
Thanks for posting!
Hey JH,
We haven't talked for awhile. Not since the old days on Wargamer. Are you still enjoying life in Texas?

No. I'm miserable in NY. Hope all is well.
Thanks for posting it....almost forgot about this game....have it, just never played it much...maybe time to dust it off again.
yeah grim,
I just got back into it after a two-year hiatus. I think you will find it more enjoyable with the STA Mods. The desert missions are very good. DL the winter mod as well as well as the Africa mod. And try the winter one on the Otto Carius Tiger mission. It really adds to the atmosphere. lockie is currently working on a Sherman M4A2 mission for North Africa too.
Another modder is working on new terrain, buildings, etc. So, lots of more content is in the pipeline.
Good news. Thanks. I enjoyed this game awhile back but found it way too difficult to mod. This might be the answer.
Rayfer,
Just make sure you install the JSGME installer. Post if you need any help either here or on the STA forums. lockie or I will be glad to help.

Not sure if it is like Steel Armour Blaze of War with a Tactical / Operational layer.
It's tank sim only, it's the graviteam guys before they were graviteam. I think it was published by lighthouse who then tanked and went under, so graviteam went on thier own.
I'm dying for graviteam to unify all thier titles and bring WWII to blaze of war. I want to see all the SABOW improvements added, I actually prefer the engine as a sim instead of an rts.
Hats off to the modders for steel fury, they've added an insane amount of content....but I'd rather they add all the steel fury content to blaze of war.
Asid's dogs of war site has all the links to download the mods. I tried to download the mod a couple years ago and it took me to one of those sites that make you register to download and it made my antivirus software send up foul play flares so I passed on it. I don't like downloading mods unless they are from clean sites that don't ask for credentials. Most likely was a false positive, but I passed on it anyways. The mod might be hosted at a better site lately...haven't checked.
Are all the mods already JSME ready, just unzip into mod folder and activate. Been waiting for the game to go on sale, which it seems to never do.Might jump now.
Nice pics Asid. Graviteam artwork is great, as is the modders.

Yes JSME. I use it. Only mod to pay extra attention to is the Steel Sound Mod (SSM)
Steel Sound Mod ATTENTION!It is STRICTLY recommended before sound mod installation - delete the next two folders (from your current install):
- data\k42\loc_rus\sounds\speech\ger
- data\k42\loc_rus\sounds\speech\tank
Then install SSM
I hope this helps

Hi Jarhead
V2.0 is only for internal testers.
V3.0 Alpha is very close to release. However it may be some time until this is released.
V1.0 is good and adds a lot.
I will get more info and get back to you.

Thanks, man! I have 1.0 installed on my older rig. Just contemplating installing on my new one.
I'm kinda liking the fact that this is a tank sim only now.....so, does the game have the ability to show losses after a battle? Like a end game scoreboard?
Thanks

News about V2 & V3 STA Mod.
V3.0 will most likely not be released this year.
V2 is in a closed beta. However if you wish to participate then you can donate to the site. The donations go towards running the site etc. If interested then PM lockie or Txema on the STA forum: http://stasf2008.ephpbb.com/forum.

Hope this is helpful.

Thanks for the heads up, Asid. Disappointed that 3.0 is so far off.
Do you have 2.0? Is it worth a contribution to have early access?

I HAVE 2.0
The contribution is 10 euros. The money goes toewards the cost of the site.
STA2.1 has New tanks: Cromwell, T-34/76/40, different Shermans
New Campaigns:- Nazi power - Fury
New mod: "muddy winter" adopted. Many bugs fixed.
2.1 is a more updated and advanced version.
2.1 is for users who want to see more. For the beginners STA1.0 is a good choice.
I enjoy it. The choice is yours.

STA1.1
By lockie
Soon, the version STA1.1 will be released. Because STA1.0 is no longer supported there swill be one file, which will include some additional modes, such as:
- September Update 2015
- aspect/fix widescreen 16:9
- Steel Sound Mod 2.3
- all models and some textures files has been packed in the original files of the game (this method somehow optimize the resource of the PC, especially sound files).
One file with almost "all inclusive" has better and simple installation than compilation of them.
Therefore user should install:
- 4Gb patch (win7,8,10)
- GMP's (~150 missions)
- Nvidia Inspector/Sweet Fx (enable AA in the game)
- Weather mods (landscape)
STA1.1 is available through the torrent link.
Installation(only English version):
1. 4GB patch (http://www.4shared.com/zip/AMVafQvxce/4gb_patch.html). It is ONLY for Windows 7,8,10 owners.
2. STA 1.1 (http://www.4shared.com/file/8nNzgWRFce/STA11.html)
3. GMP1.x (http://stasf2008.ephpbb.com/t24-game-missions-pack-01-gmp-1x) (optional)
4. GMP2.x (http://stasf2008.ephpbb.com/t33-game-missions-pack-02-gmp-2x) (optional)
5. GMP3.x (http://stasf2008.ephpbb.com/t31-game-missions-pack-03-gmp-3x) (optional)
6. Any Weather Mod (http://stasf2008.ephpbb.com/t6-steel-tank-add-on-steel-fury) (optional)
Think im gonna fold and get this at gamersgate. How do you download the patch, i try but it always wants me to sign up or takes me to another page to download something else. Is this patch available anywhere else. Looks like STA download is the same site, anyway to download without signing up for anything? I see the free download 60 second wait timer but it never counts down and no matter what download button I click it tries to get me to download something else.
Not having too much luck with that torrent file either, tried to 2 different torrent clients no dice. Only message i get is connecting to peers and a message saying "may be insufficient sources" I've tried utorrent and bittorrent. Been awhile since i dealt with torrents, just let it thru the firewall and all should be good ...right.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you need any assistance.

Hi Budd
It has everything you need apart from:
• 4GB patch. It is ONLY for Windows 7,8,10 owners. (see attachment)
• GMP1.x Missions (optional)
• GMP2.x Missions (optional)
• GMP3.x Missions (optional)
• Any Weather Mod (optional)
Before activating the STA mod you should:Delete these two folders:
- data\k42\loc_rus\sounds\speech\ger
- data\k42\loc_rus\sounds\speech\tank
How to apply the 4GB patchIt is only for "starter.exe" and "shell.exe"
1. ...Steel Fury - Kharkov 1942\starter.exe
2. ...Steel Fury - Kharkov 1942\bin\rel\shell.exe
You will need the Mod enabler JSGME.Let me know if i can help in any way.

Well i got it installed and i think i got everything in the right spots. the missions wont start, no matter which mission i choose. I installed, applied patch to starter and shell files, deleted those sound folders, put mods in mod folder and applied the mods.

I've tried reversing the order of the mods, also tried without the mission pack, none of the missions will start. Any help would be appreciated.
I reinstalled the game and went through the process again, no luck, same thing all the way around. I have a question about the patch file download, why is there 2 patch files in the download with different dates, does it matter which one you use? Is one for the shell and the other for the starter? just wonder why there are 2 of the same files with different dates in the patch download. I also tried all the other resolution that work for my computer, nothing it always just drops me to desktop and when i check process manager after it drops me to desktop there no process for Kharkov running.

Remove the box by:Deleting/renaming this file:
...Steel Fury - Kharkov 1942\root\default.engcfg
Disable all mods and try to play a default mission.
Make sure that the the STA folder you place into the MOD folder does not contain the same folder within it. This can be because of the way you extracted it. The folder should be "STA1.x" Inside it should be several other folders and files. The same applies to the GMP mission files.
Also check that the "Shell" and "Starter" files have not been deleted. If they have then you can use the backups in the same directories. They are called:
shell.exe.Backup (C:\xxx\Steel Fury - Kharkov 1942\bin\rel)
starter.exe.Backup (C:\Games\Steel Fury - Kharkov 1942)
To use them just rename them and remove the ".Backup"
I am sorry you are having issues. I have installed this on several systems and no issues. Maybe I'm explaining it incorrectly.
Let me know how you get on.

Well dont know if it was renaming that file or what but it all seems to be working now ;D thx for all your help Asid. Just tell me one thing, how do you drive these damn things ;) i cant get past the driving tutorial :2funny: once the tank stops it wont move again, the gas shows on the meter but no RPM's show on the meter once i stop, tell me theres a good youtube video for tank driving for dummies. thanks again
Hi Budd
Glad you got it working :)
The driver can have an automatic or manual gearbox. See the drivers controls. Game options > Control settings. Then pick "Driver from the RHS list.
There is a lot to STA. It might look simple but it has depth O0
