Well, it's about damn time they add Rommel's DAK to Panzer Corps. I'll probably buy it now.
Wow that hotel is something else! Can't wait to get Commander: The Great War and more info on Sovereignty.
or, y'know, they could've poured the money from that hotel into some decent back end software on their websites.
^Back end software doesn't give you plush pink frilly pillows!
Surely wargamers only need a foxhole and a jerrycan of Brandy?... more games, less hospitaliy suites please! :)

Well, that or to pay their employees. One quit because he hadn't had a raise in a couple of years.
Makes ya wonder, doesn't it?
I got news that Slitherine had just secured a co-branding deal with the History Channel. They paid good money to get the BBC's logo on one of their games. I suspect the same deal here.
Priorities, priorities...

Well if they got the History Channel then I fully expect a Swamp People, Ax Men, Pawn Stars and American Pickers game releases. God knows the history channels doesn't actually show any history programing any more.

Remember, Slitherine is well known for its wargaming classic, Ice Road Truckers, so I'm sure you're right about that.
As much as I love Swamp People, I'm not convinced Swamp People The FPS is going to be better than IRT. However Pawn Stars the RPG? That sounds like a winner. Especially if I get to work the night shift with Peaches.
There was an Ice Road Truckers game? Where the hell have I been?
Slitherine has been co-branding with the History Channel for a while.
(And not overly good games, either.)
I'm more curious about the final CC game: a hint that there will be a new engine soon? (THANK GOD!!) And what would Panthers in the Fog be? They've already covered (the update of) Bulge. Could it be a totally new game on the old engine, somewhere that hasn't been gamed much? Invasion of Norway maybe? (Would other '39/early 40 campaigns make any sense with that title?)
The game i am going to buy a 100% is Victor Rijkers new Decisive Campaigns: Case Blue, this guy makes the games that hit my sweet wargaming spot..

I call it the "Ancient Aliens Channel".
Then again, the only show I ever bother watching on the tube, anymore, is Pawn Stars so I shouldn't complain too much.

Well, then it's assured Slitherine has branded its products properly. (https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1081.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fj349%2Flongblade%2FSmilies%2Fheadscratch.gif&hash=8603e6684adb44bdc2ee527335efa8e297a88686)
Nothing really excites me except maybe the rewrite for FOG...maybe once more details known, something else will seem exciting.
Well, Panthers in the Fog has to refer to Wacht Am Rhein if there is to be some historical significance as there are several tales of armored knife-fights in the fog that resulted from that battle. Of course, S&M could just be using the title because it sounds cool w/out proper reference but I do hope they are above that.
So, why did they hold this at some luxury hotel? What, for the benefit of 'wargaming journalists' with a grand total of 723 readers? That just seems....really, really stupid.
It might also help if there was the faintest hint of information about ANY of these games. Why go public with a list that you then don't give any background about? So that those 723 readers get an exclusive first look?
This is just one great big WTF.

I wondered the same thing....didn't seem like anything earth shattering to go through this expense and drama. Without any real information given, hard to get excited about anything. Maybe on day 2 they plan to provide more information.

Some day we need to have a beer together.
Look, I think JD needs to have acceptance. That's why he buys someone else's brand to put on his own. WTF does the BBC or History Channel have to do with wargaming? Nothing. Matrix used to be as solid a brand as you could get...

The thing I don't get honestly is that given most of your customer base is most likely struggling in the current economic conditions, why in the name of all that is decent would you host a such a lavish place? I know they have an Italy office, but seriously what are they trying to prove with this event?

Slitherine didn't told the ppl they invite to the fancy Lago Maggiore place that their guests only get an almost empty room and every single item in their room will be a "DLC" or "Add-on" where a single one will be unlocked on every full hour after check-in (quote IMN: ,
sorry, because of the limited number of bellmen not all items can be released together immediately' ) and can then be ordered at the reception deck and will get delivered by bellmen
IMN: ,
as a special service to our guests, you don't have to walk to the reception deck but can order your item via IPad or smartphone from your room over the hotel WiFi ...for a little surcharge) ;)
pickin a more "wargamish" / "history" smelling place ... maybe Monte Casini, Anzio (if it has to be Italy ) or somewhere in Belgium, maybe Bastogne (Waterloo has a to bad ring) would have been more appropriate :P
<chuckle>
According to the Slitherine website Commander The Great War comes out on May 15, 2012. That's good news, yes?

Don't forget these others as well, we had some wifi trouble trying to get news and posts up, so some things came out late:
* Conflict of heroes release is imminent
* World in Flames conversion of board game coming soon
* Lock and Load Heroes of Stalingrad board game conversion coming Q3
A couple of other things coming we didn't have time to cover
* Frank Hunters new game Piercing Fortress Europa coming some time before end of Q3
* Complete Carriers at War coming 2012, date TBD

This has me interested. I was one of the folks who bought the Matrix CAW release right away. I was surprised to see how few scenarios there were after having played the original CCAW and all its many options. There was much hope that there would be more scenarios released for the new iteration in the coming weeks but after a while the buzz died down. Then the game itself slowly slipped into the dim light along the edges of attention as other titles were released. I'd check back occasionally but after a while I gave up hope. Will the new release have all of the original scenarios from CCAW? Will there be a discount for those of us who grabbed it the first time around?

Awesome - can you get us some preview and review code?

I don't know who we have on board to tackle World in Flames but I'll see what we can do.
I can't wait for Heroes of Stalingrad. That will be awesome! Been watching that for a while.
I'll see what I can do! I'm currently in Stockholm waiting out this ten hour layover for my flight home to Chicago. I think I asked for a day or so off to catch up with my time zone, I think? Was it yesterday? Today? Thank god for unlimited coffee at this cafe or else I'd be drooling asleep.
Cool.
Have a safe trip back and get some rest. We can catch up later.
Looks like a new Distant Worlds expansion was also announced.
While some of these will likely end up being games that are pretty good, this whole enterprise continues to confuse me. I mean, what was the overall point?
It doesn't seem like it was to offer up much information about upcoming games for consumers, unless text blurbs like this are supposed to crack wallets open across the land :
Sovereignty will set in the fantasy realm, with orges, humans, unicorns, walking trees, complete with diplomacy and world campaign map.
Okay, so maybe it's about the media there. Only...who was there? Usually, a game company brings in media so that they will put out releases about what they've seen that day. And yet, the only source of information seems to be Matrix/Slitherine themselves. So how do they even benefit from this event?
And who WAS there? A lot of those games don't look like massive monster games that are purely niche projects. A lot of them look similar to products that some well read sites have done write ups about in the past. Rock Paper Shotgun has done numerous write-ups about previous Matrix games...were they there? Doesn't seem like it. Three Moves Ahead gets good listener numbers for their weekly strategy/wargame podcast. Was anyone from that group there? Nope. Was ANYONE from any site that actually gets decent page read numbers of listener counts there?
Then what was the point of spending who knows how much money for this event, when it seems like they would have been better off just doing some sort of web hosted event?

I found the reverse, but what do I know? I'm dyslexic.
I'm still writing 2011, and occassionally 2009, on documents so how's that for jet lag?
I'll try to answer quickly since my flight boards for the US soon.
RPS was invited and had tickets, but Adam broke his jaw, poor guy, and had to cancel. I know off hand SteategyCore was there, PC4War, pockettactics, and others, I have a list but it's in my luggage and my mind is gone.
The press event is a time for us to bring the developers out in person to meet the press and such. This location was chosen for its historical significance of where Napoleon stayed for a few days "uninvited".
There will be more info once everyone gets home and back to work. I myself just want to go home and go to sleep, badly.
Did I read the above correctly: Sovereignty will include orgies? I'm in.

Probably deserves it's own thread here, at some point. Sounds interesting if much of the gameplay is decided via card game mechanics (or the battles at least).
The map art reminds me of some old tabletop fantasy strategy games. That may not be a big plus regarding artwork, but definitely supports the boardgame style that it's supposed to resemble.
Looks interesting.
The art style is almost enough to get me to say I'll definitely buy this. I tend to be wary of card-based mechanics but this does look interesting.
Ok, you have my attention...
Interest piqued!
The map artwork looks very cool.

Now this is going to be catty but...
They really heavily copy Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri for Pandora and this one looks very "inspired by" Dominions.
If they are good games, they are good games. But I would like to see some more innovation in the field.

Sovereignty for a while now. While one obviously can't really comment on gameplay or mechanics yet, I at least like the artwork we've seen so far.

Good Hunting.
