As the title, he gets to play with a dev alongside to explain various things.
On the surface, you'd be forgiven for thinking it's made by the same developer as MGSV ;D
I was rather excited about this game a year ago (or so) when I first heard about it.
And I'm very curious to see how it's received. It's out soon - on my birthday I believe
Interesting but looks twitchy.
Noticed your character is ambidextrous.
SOLD!!!!!! to the man in the sporran
no - no. Not yet. :o
I've had time to reflect recently and jumping in on games is not what I'll be doing now. I want to make sure I know what I'm getting. :smitten:
My observations of the video was - all the "baddies" look the same. There's very little (if any) variation. And I really don't like the 300 rounds per death.
And the other thing was...Angry Joe SUCKS at shooting games! :buck2:
The beta starts Jan 29th if you preorder.
nope. Not this sucker. Bitten too many times - it's time to stand at the sidelines and give up this "must have" ideology

I hear you, loud and clear...as a gamer I also have learned my lesson by now. Not buying any hardware or software when it shows up, waiting for the perfect deal, better hardware for the same price as the first gen stuff, for a complete game and also for the complete package (basic game + DLCs for the same price as the original game or even less). That's why we waited to buy a PS4 until a few months ago. :)
I really want this to be good. My gaming near future is set aside for XCom 2, but I'm keeping an eye on this.

Open beta starts feb 19th to the 21st to anyone who has a uplay client, you can even preload it now. I'm definately not buying this for 60bucks, but the lets play videos look compelling enough to give the open beta a whirl.
I cant get into this game, the damage numbers that flies out like that is so unappealing. A tom clancy game should not resemble borderlands
JD if you want a good online FPS then I say Verdun.

Hell yeah, I'll happily try out the Beta.

I don't want an online FPS - period.
What I do want is a great game with a great story, great graphics and great gameplay.
Will this deliver? ???
Well, the BETA is free and I have a Uplay account, so I'm going to give the BETA a go. I'm still not playing out the trap - but it would be daft not to try the game myself when it's free.
I think why I can't exactly shut the door on this game is the way they present the mp, if you wander into the dark zone you find the mp area. If you stay out of the the dark zone, then it's all sp mission based stuff like metal gear. It seems unique, never heard of the mp done like this. The mp seems more like dayZ survival rpg than a straight up competitive shooter like bf4. There's an uncertainty when you come across other humans in the dark zone, are they going to jack you or leave you alone....the beta should be worth a try.

Yeah...it is unique. I heard a lot of complaints from closed beta testers about the dark zone though.
Am keeping my eye on this. Also if you get a new Nvidia 970 or higher you get a free copy of the game.

I heard those too, one of them was players resorting to snipe camping the extraction areas. Could totally ruin the dark zone.
These ubi games usually don't take long to get discounted, so I'll probably get a taste of the beta then come back to it in 6 months when it's 20bucks.
So, this became available today on BETA and I've gave it an hour or so. What I've played of it wasn't bad.
It's, imo, very linear - or at least at the moment it is. I have walked around a fair whack and I've encountered one building I could get in and that was a shop...with no other movement except out the same way I came in.
I was suffering from information overload and because of that missed several things the tutorial was teaching me (like throwing a grenade...I can do it, just...eventually after some key mashing).
Graphics are pretty good and there's a lot about...it's a busy world and yet, empty. Not an awful lot going on in the time I was walking about. I came across a couple of gangs, a couple of muggings and a couple of groups of guys with flame throwers.
And example of the emptiness was me going down the sewer and spending quite some time walking about - to find absolutely nothing. No baddies. No loot. No lore. Zip. Nada.
I didn't do any of the 3 missions I was initially assigned...just walked around and kicked some bad guys arses and helped some civvies out with med kits.
However, it's only an hour in and I'll be heading back in tomorrow. I haven't been to the dark zone yet...as a player who severely dislikes MP, it's not really the part I was looking forward to - but apparently that's where you get all the good kit. So maybe I'll stick my toe in.
It is still BETA. So yet to see.
Oh - and there are some cool bits...like finding "flashbacks" that you can activate and they tell a story.
Played some more.
A few videos will go up on the Videos thread.
You can get rid of the floating directional line in the game by going to the map and switching off the GPS track line by pressing TAB.
There are 3 areas to upgrade in your base...Medical, Technical and Security wings. These can be upgraded by doing missions which give points to these specific areas. In one of the videos above, I've done a mission that gave me 60 medical points and 34 credits. Credits can buy you equipment (clothing and weapons) at your base and you can also sell stuff you've picked up. There's also a stash at your base that looks like you can deposit equipment in.
I believe in some missions I've tried the enemy keeps on coming unless I move forward. So sitting still and waiting for the enemy to come git you so you can kill them isn't an option.
Some enemies have a grenade that they throw that disorientates you (not a flash bang...a gas one) and the effect is pretty cool.
You carry 2 medikits as standard I think but you can pick up more on route. I resupplied at base and left with 2 med kits. I then picked one up from a rucksack and had 3. I don't know if there's a limit - I would imagine so.
I'm actually really enjoying it. As a shooter it's quite good and as a story driven game it also seems to have some depth. I've done a mix of randomly running around exploring and coming across some enemies, doing side missions and doing the main missions.
I'll be looking at this very carefully on release (no point in pre-purchasing with no discount to do so)
Thanks for the impressions. Are you managing to avoid "the dark zone?" Can you tell when you are entering it?
I haven't been there yet. I'll be sticking my heed in there tomorrow

A point to note...initially I thought the overhead directional line was annoying, but actually, it grew on me and totally fits with the tech world they are in.
Also having played more and discovered more, it's not as linear as it first appears. Initially it looks like you're heading down main streets, but there are sewers (though I found nothing of note down there), side streets and a few buildings here and there. Not loads, but enough to go exploring for a while.
I went into the Dark Zone not knowing at all what it was or what to do. I was just curious to see what was about.
It seems there's tougher enemies (hence the better loot). There were "landmarks" that you went to and once there, took on some baddies. I died each time...badly.
The first time, I was helping some people attack a place (not as a member of their group (if they were a group) but as a rag tag bunch). Anyway, I saw a bad guy with a machine gun pinning someone down and threw a grenade. I did not know one of "our mob" was heading there and he got hit with the grenade...so I was then Rogue and got soundly kicked.
The final time I went into a "landmark". Sent out my "pulse" to see if there were any enemies about and there were not - so I headed in looking around. All of a sudden, there were about 10 touch bad guys right next to me. They had clearly respawned right on top of where I was. It took about 1 second to put me down.
I saw some people calling extraction and when the helo came, they put a package on a zip. I guess it was whatever they had picked up (presumably there are things around that you have to pick up...whether they are all in where the bad guys are or not, I don't know).
Successfully negotiating through the dark zone for a period of time increases your experience in the DZ and opens up other things (example...I found a crate but could not open it due to my level).
So - it was interesting. No-one turned on me which was a pleasant surprise - until I went rogue of course. Completely my fault. Watch what you're doing with grenades in the DZ.
I really liked the seamless move from sp to mp.
I could imagine (as with all mp games) that playing this with a bunch of pals would be great. I actually don't know how you would do that because obviously in SP there are no other players...perhaps telling your mates what DZ you are heading into?
Anyway - the BETA is obviously limited in play and functionality - but colour me impressed.
That's it. I'm going to play it some more today then work on my Su27. O0

It's literally a whole separate region of the map. You have to pass through gates that require you to acknowledge passing through them. There's no way you can accidentally wander in there.
I just spent about 2 hours in it. I like it so far. Completing missions will open up new weapons, weapon mods, gear, grenades and the like. Leveling up unlocks new skills (Q and E are the default skill triggers). For example, I currently have a sticky grenade mapped to E and a locator pulse to Q. I can also switch to a ballistic shield and/or short range healing pulse. You use them, then they slowly recharge. The full game will have Perks, but those aren't in the Beta. Neither is the crafting system, but that will also be in the full game.
Also, during my first organized mission, there was a side door that I could have opened if I had lock picks. I've also seen spots where having other gear or a certain ability would grant access.

if i understood the Angry Joe video correct: its an MMO: you spawn in the AI enemies only zone and people from your friend list can be seen in the zoomed out overlay map when they are on-line, and if you put the mouse over you can invite them to a ragtag group. In-game (3D view) you have the 'game character' names only not the nick names chosen by the player
i am on the fence and like the NYC setting
but turned off by the usual concealment = cover simplification and the 50 rounds 9mm Luger bullets through an MP5 barrel you have to shoot someone (virus infected pain-immunity and strength or not) in the face from 3m distance to drop him...
IIRC in COD4 ? there was a 'hardcore' mode setting for maps, which was a good compromise between the close to reality ARMA one-shot-kill from a single pixel size enemy you don't even see on your 27"-screen, and the pure comic-style of FPS-fun-shooters
I thought the requirement for a full mag to take someone out was going to bother me - in actuality, it doesn't. I thought seeing the numbers fly out the enemies bodies was going to bother me. In actuality, it doesn't.
Same for the hovering GPS line, the highlights for pick ups etc, etc, etc.
Things is, whilst I thought they were going to bother me, they haven't...meaning (I guess) the game has entertained me enough to make them not bother me.
It's actually quite unique...it's an RPG that feels like a third person cover based shooter. If you think RPG, the hits and numbers aren't troubling at all.
So far, I quite like it. Only problem is that Hitman beta started last night too.
Well, it didn't take long to find the dark side of the Dark Zone.
Pickup loot and you can't take it out the DZ as it's contaminated so you have to extract it. As soon as you call the extraction helo, the place seems to be swarming with Rogue Agents to steal your loot
I'm not really into doing that to anyone (pixelated or rl :) ), I also don't really like that play style so will likely seldom venture into the DZ in future. I just don't like the idea of running around doing "ma thing" (even helping others) and some twat(s) mugging me.
Actually - as that was my first foray into the DZ it was all going well until I wanted to get out, then realised I had to use the extraction. That's when I saw a shed load of rogue agents.
Like I said - it was my first time and it was a bad example. I've since been back to the DZ and used the extraction point several times and with "like minded" people there, we were able to hold off the bad guys (who were not rogue agents this time).
So - it's not all bad in the DZ. I just think it's shite that players can steal your loot when you've worked worked hard for it. Fair play if you die at the hands of the AI and another player comes and picks it up
I played the beta for several hours yesterday, it was pretty enjoyable. Enough to seriously think about getting the full game. Some notes to add to what judge has already added:
You can coop the main missions with a 4 player group. The map has a match maker feature that will look for players to play the mission. It takes a few minutes, but it was well worth it for doing the mission on hard difficulty. When your done you can stay with the same group and move around in the game world if you want . This will be a blast in the full release as some of the missions are tough on hard setting.
You can turn off the damage numbers, I did, in the game settings. I turned my mouse aim down to 10%, and my accuracy is dead on.
The dark zone can be frustrating at times when you lone wolf. It adds to the appeal in a sense. It was nice to see the majority of players be cool and not try to jack you, some even revive you.
If you come across a group of rogue players and your solo, don't take them on, evade.
The comms are proximity based so if you come close to a player it helps to state your intensions.

After some more time in the DZ, that was my experience. I can imagine a lot more rogue players showing up though...the temptation to mug other people will be too much for some players

I can pretty much see me getting this game. Maybe even on release (as the 8th is my birthday). I've not had this much fun since The Witcher III.

Yes, this in SP. So far it's only for the main story missions, the beta only has 2 of them. If you look on the map, click on one of the 2 story missions, there's a choice at the top left for matchmaking. This will find other players to do the mission with, it looks like it could be up to 4 players. It auto assigns the players into a group, when the mission is over the group remains...so I wonder if you could pretty much coop the whole SP portion of the game...I'll have to explore this more.
Ah. ok...thanks. I've only done one of the main missions.
I am a bit of a lone wolf I have to say

if i
analysed the setup in the video correctly, it will be the perfect griefer game
Especially if two work as a pair, ...one guy goes rogue to the max at the chopper extraction point or just in-game, and collect a high bounty on his head, 'enjoying' his grief spreading for the others players, then his friend who just had followed him closely drops him, collect the high bounty (don't know about the grabed loot collection so) ...and when his friend has respawned clean (after 3 minutes max? ) they switch the roles. ...griefing and mining the bounty alternately
I don't think farming with bounties will work, every time you die in the dark zone you loose xp. This is no big deal early on, but once your at level 12 you can loose an hours worth of work in xp if you die in the dark zone. I'm assuming this is a deterant for people to just play recklessly.
Concerned a little about the skulduggery in MP but still interested enough to give this a whirl. SP sounds like good clean fun though.
Well, I think I'm on board with this one. Messed around a bit in the Dark Zone after doing everything there was in the SP beta demo. Really enjoyed pretty much everything.
Same here, I almost feel like I played the beta so much I could almost not even get the game. Suppose to be a ton of more stuff in the final release though.
our impressions go up tomorrow :)

My name in game is JudgeDredd1967
I'll be playing too. See you in The dark zone.
Finished downloading overnight. Just created my character. Got up early to check on the game. Quitting now to go back and get some more sleep. Can't wait to get up later and explore NYC!
I picked it up yesterday but I've been unable to play it.
The Steam reviews are horrible! Lots of folks saying the gameplay is boring and repetitive, terrible AI, and lots of connection issues.
Anyone here have any issues with it?
I don't know that I'd deny there's repetitiveness there. Not enough to stop me buying. I found there was enough variety in the BETA to make me want to get this.
I haven't encountered any connection issues - and I've been in and out several times today.

3 hours in and I've just taken back the Base of Operations. I may be too easily distracted by side missions... ;D
Pretty much my experience...side tracked by side missions. It was ages before I went and made my base.
I stumbled into a level 4-5 zone when I was 2 - died quite quickly.
I'm really digging it so far. Packed 7 hours away.
It's a mix of Borderlands and Ghost Recon.
I like it too. So far the only parts I have not liked are the ones that appeared to force me to work together with other players. So far, they have all been a$$holes.

Haven't gotten there yet, and that doesnt sound fun.
I think they could've done a better job highlighting the difficulty level in each area, and differences between each district; each district has a different difficulty level. If you look at the map, you have to zoom out at a perfect level so that you can see the districts, then hover your mouse over the district and it'll display the difficultly.
I found myself in a level 10 district (at level 4) and while I completed a few of my objectives, did get rolled up pretty hard.
Whats your loadout?
I'm rocking a turret and sticky bomb with RPK74 (LVL 9) and SCAR-H (LVL 7)
^I'm only a level 4. I have the P416 Assault Rifle, MP5 and M9. I also have a what looks like a Remington 870, but I haven't really used it yet. I have the sticky bomb equipped as my skill.
I can't say I've come across anything where I have to side with other players.

It is confusing with all the other players online in *your* world. When you get to the base at Hudson, there are lots of other real world gamers around and I was like "WTF?", but once I got out and headed into the map proper, I haven't seen a one - though you seem to be able to request a meet to get players to help.
I honestly cannot remember what the first story mission was - I've done so many side missions.
I'm just normally such a lone wolf even if I was being sheparded into playing with others, I'd have avoided it if at all possible. I don't mind meeting and playing with known people...but random gamers online (in general) are asshats. I've never had a good experience with that.

Just picked this up today and had to get the Gold edition for the National Guard outfit.
Steam name is Great Ajax
Ubi name is Panzerjager44
Trey
I just made level 10 and picked up an M-60. :D
I've had no problems beating .....anything so far.
The Story missions kick up to serious difficulty as you move on, so you kind of need the additional firepower of 4 guys...or atleast 3 other targets for the AI to shoot at while you take shots at them.
It is mixed bag as far as the types you get in coop...some groups are real cool and work together...some are a$$hats...it's life I guess. You can mute their mics if they annoy you.
Playing the missions coop jump started the leveling up, because you get points not only for your kills and actions but also for the other guys in the group. 2 days in and I'm already at level 16 and 50% complete with the main missions. It could really be a blast with a tight group, you could stay in the coop group as long as you want and go all over the SP part of the map or make a run into the dark zone.
I haven't even been to the Dark zone yet, going to make an incursion soon though.

Yep - saw the matchmaking stuff - just wasn't sure where. There's probably some missions you could do with another pair of hands.
Also, from what I remember of the play through with Angry Joe, all loot is multiple I think. So if there's a gun to be picked up from a bad guy, then there's one for each...was that correct? I don't actually know because I've not went multi player yet
i havent a say in the game, i dont have it and its not my kind, but other than here anywhere else ive read, the game is getting slaughtered whilst it tops the steam charts and is ubisofts fastest selling game ever - is it good or bad ???
It's getting some negativity for server issues on release day. People flipped because the main server crashed on release with all the activity, which should have been smooth with the 2 betas they did.
Looks fixed now, haven't had any issues since release day.
I'm digging it so far, it's been a blast.
It's been a blast so far. I see absolutely no reason to slate or slag it. It's not perfect but it's very enjoyable imo
1. Couple that with the fact that it looks to be absolutely dull as dishwater – link to youtube.com – and I doubt it will be more than a few months before the servers are sparsely populated. It won't take long for the shiny graphics honeymoon to wear off and the reality of repetitive MMO grind to set in.
2. Don't know if this is good news... in the end, the only major positive thing (and most certainly a huge driving factor for sales) are the visuals. The rest remains the usual UbiGrinding handheld gameplay with no excitement, no exploration, a rather constrained AI and no unique moments that aren't severely influenced by the visuals as well. To no surprise, the story/dialogues/characters are insanely dumb as well. Thankfully everything can be skipped.
Although, not suprising at all, so not disappointing either. I just wonder if this is what games are now, or if there ever will be a shift again to get great graphics combined with a game that isn't just the worst and feeds of primitive instincts rather then offering genuie development.
3. Not had chance to play it yet but by all accounts its a very shallow and repetitive (but not altogether unenjoyable) experience, "The gaming equivalent of the film Anaconda" to paraphrase Jim Stirling.
Clearly the figures show there money to be made in things like this and Destiny though which makes me sad for the future of gaming – Spend all your money on the marketing campaign and you can generate the hype to shift anything
to quote but a few - to me it looks awesome, but that alludes to the graphics - i havent seen any gameplay goings on - as JD said here or elsewhere therell always be haters, was just trying to get a handle on the negativaty
I think point 3 points to the negativity rather well..."
Not had a chance to play it yet". I think people just jump on a bandwagon...which ever one comes along and seems to be the most popular. It's not going to be everyone's cup of tea.
I can only sum it up thus...
- Is this better than other games I have? Yep.
- Is it the best game I have? Nope.
- Is it worth the money I paid? Too soon to say, but so far, yes
That's all I've got really. I only have 5 hours I think in game, but they've been a very enjoyable 5 hours. I've only been in one area (a level 02-04) and strayed into a 5 and died. I think there looked like about half a dozen areas (I'll double check that) and there's also the Dark Zone to visit.
18 hours in game. Having a blast!
Today I ventured into the Dark Zone with a friend.
It was not what I expected - in a good way. I thought it would just be PvP killing - it was almost opposite that. The AI that occupies the DZ is tough, and my buddy and I got our butts kicked. We grouped up with other players against the AI - got some GREAT loot. The only time I encountered a Rogue Agent is when a guy accidentally shot a friendly during an intense firefight.
This game is exactly like Borderlands. One noticeable difference between the two games is that loot vendors in The Division actually sell decent equipment, whereas in Borderlands players were expected to loot farm for worthy equipment.
Edit - The Dark Zone is really worth the risk but I wouldn't recommend a player try lone wolf it. I went into the DZ, for the first time at level 12 and got annihilated. To be successful it requires a solid team of players - a team that has players who are dedicated to different specializations - or at least one person as a dedicated medic. Also, rolling as a group in the DZ is a deterrent for Rogue Agents which can be important for pickup zones.
Finally got around to completing one of the big missions from the base of operations (I rescued the cop to give me early tactical options), and I've crafted a few things...like a suppressor for my badass new SCAR-H with a 12x scope. Time to go play with the new toy. >:D
Oh, also unlocked the Perks and Traits systems by accomplishing one of the missions. They're nice passive abilities, but you only have so many Traits slots, just like with active Skills.
I'm about 5hrs in at level 7 and I'm really enjoying it so far, despite having been disappointed with the beta, the release version has better lighting, more random NPC encounters outside the dark zone, and seem like I'm finding more loot in empty buildings.
So far I am pleasantly surprised with the improvements in the release version, after having cancelled my pre-order after playing the first beta.
As a loot enthusiast with hundreds of hours in Destiny, I can tell that I'll be playing the division quite a bit.

The Story missions kick up to serious difficulty as you move on, so you kind of need the additional firepower of 4 guys...or atleast 3 other targets for the AI to shoot at while you take shots at them.
<snip>
Or just farm a couple more levels, right? I hope? Not really looking for a multiplayer shooter.
4 crashes in about an hour of play. Most games are stable on this rig. It keeps saying my video driver stopped responding - don't remember seeing that error message before. Seems to be a common problem with Nvidia users. My drivers are up to date.
There was a bug in the drivers published March 8th.
They issued a hotfix a day later, but perhaps its not entirely fixed on some configs. Try the driver set before the 8th.
Level 10 now. Some fun new toys. Unlocked the medical wing and I'm upgrading it ans security simultaneously. Started gaining abilities to modify skills. Getting WRECKED trying to take down the Cleaners base solo, so I think I'm going to have to go do some other ops and build up first.
It's still crashing on me every hour or so, which is kind of a drag since I spend a couple of minutes in queue coming back, but . . . this game is a blast! First really satisfying RPG shooter since ME 3, and I am very impressed with the open world. Everything seems real, it's not hard to find encounters but they're not the obvious knots of enemies standing X distance apart waiting to be attacked, either.
Loving it - just bring me a little stability, please.
Level 28 now, and plan on hitting level 30 today.
The weaponry at this level is impressive, and can kill most enemies in one or two shots. I have all kinds of critical hit bonuses that are also helping.
I'm 90% complete upgrading my tech wings - with only one small 200 point upgrade per wing remaining.
I've completed all of the story missions, thru matchmaking, not solo..that would be insane. They are challenging but if you keep your weapons and gear current with your rank you should have no problems. I would highly recommend against it solo, though. At the map screen you can click on the missions and matchmake - aka - jump on with another player. This is good, even for completed missions as it gives you good XP.
I tried to tackle the DZ solo last night. I was doing well until I called an extract and got swarmed by NPCs. Still a bad idea trying to solo in the DZ.
Also learning to be more particular about acquiring gear in the DZ. Some stuff just isn't worth extracting, and currently there's no way to sort acquired loot while on a sortie.
I had a great experience the other night in the DZ where I linked up with 6 other players. We tried to tackle DZ6 but got our butts whipped. We ended up getting in a 30 minute firefight with NPCs in which we ran out of ammo twice. Some of the NPCs that you will encounter in the higher DZ levels are extremely challenging
The DZ, much like everything else in the game, requires risk.

I'm only level 9, but I've done all solo so far - I don't even know how to get to the dark zone, and I'm not that curious.
Maybe things will change, but the game has been relatively easy so far. I am leaving plenty of side missions undone, so I'm optimistic that when it starts getting harder I can just be a little more completionist and still solo things.
Of course, all that has a chance to change radically before I get to level 28. But at least up to this point, it is working just fine and dandy as a single-player game. I love it. This is one of the best CRPGs ever, no doubt about it in my mind.
It's crazy, I can spend hours just building items with crafting and modding my weapons and gear before I even get ready for a mission. It reminds me of fallout with the scavenging for crafting.

You're only playing 50% of the game then.
The game really shines in cooperative mode.
Also - the Dark Zone is not the PVP Murderzone that you think it will be. I've only had one experience where someone went rogue...and I'm not even sure it was on purpose. The AI is challenging enough to warrant an enjoyable experience. Teamwork is essential, and the rewards are great.

I'm sure it's great and I'm missing plenty - and maybe I'll try it one day, this game just might be good enough to get me to. But generally, multiplayer just doesn't work for me. You have to commit to playing the game for the next two hours, and that's just not my gameplaying style. I play a little bit, do an errand or surf the web, play a little bit more, see what's on TV, play a little bit more, etc.
I'm having a blast playing the game singleplayer. It's right in my sweet spot in a number of ways.
I played one co-op game - the first mission to get the medical centre online by rescuing the nurse.
It seemed to me that the enemies were stronger in co-op, which makes some sense. I've played that mission solo before.
The co-op went well. No issues with the people I met up with. There were 4 of us. It certainly helped to have other bullet magnets. I even rescued a couple of people
But I have been playing almost exclusively solo
The amount of enemies will increase, and I have found that their difficulty level will be the average of the group.
That just means more XP.

Cool that your enjoying it as a lone wolf, it seems the game has a little something for every one. There's no shortage of stuff to do solo, besides the main missions, there's tons of exploring, scavenging, and evidence retrieval to do. Not to mention encounter missions or the random confrontation on the street.
There is one thing annoying me rather.
As a "completionist" (from a mission perspective), it's annoying me a bit that icons don't disappear once they are discovered. As an example, there's a Tools icon not far from my main base of operations. I go there and collect the tools from the 2 boxes that I find. When I move away, there's still an icon there. I suppose it's entirely feasible that there's another tool box somewhere, but I have not been able to find it in over a dozen visits.
This means the icon always stays on the map and it just "flashes" to me, like a light to a moth and like a moth to a light, off I go, trying to find whatever is there - only to find the two empty boxes I emptied and no more.
If there's a third box there, please tell me where it is...'cos currently I just think it's a ruse. ;D
You can re-collect the loot every two hours. I have a little collection route that I take every once in awhile to get supplies for crafting.
(After I posted the above, I realized that you already knew this.)
^ Yeah...thank you, but it's not the fact I can re-collect, it's the fact that EVERY TIME I re-collect, the icon remains, suggesting there's something else there...but there's not
I try to ignore them...but I'm kind of "oooh....more stuff, wait...have I not collected all that there? Well, maybe I missed something"...and of course, I don't think I ever have :P

I thought the enemies scale to the leader of the group's level. So if the leader was higher than you the enemies in the mission would be stronger.
I was auto-matched into a group of 11 and 12, and I was 8. I could barely touch any of the enemies presented.
^ that could well be true. I didn't read up on it and I've only done a "match up" once.
All I really knew was I had played that mission several times and I noticed a ramp up in enemies. I didn't take note of the levels of people around me.
While playing solo I got my first High End loot drop from a subway boss in the Dark Zone today.
Teamed up with a group of 6 last night and hit DZ6. It's fun stuff when you have the correct weaponry.
I got the gold Uzi from a random drop of a boss that was attacking the extraction zone....my best score so far.
I'm angry that Angry Joe is complaining about the storyline and lame final boss in a loot grinder.
So onto what matters: can you farm the encounter bosses by replaying the encounters? It seems like you can't or there is a timer, though I haven't really tried. I've pretty much just been leveling and only replayed encounters that I failed. I just had the boss with the riot shield (assault encounter near The Firewall) drop two purples.
Oh, and I'm not sure if this was covered up-thread, but I highly recommend using the reconfiguration station to add some scavenging to your knee pads and masks, or reroll that stat if it is low.

Yes, in fact, a great way to complete the story missions with other players and rack up insane XP and loot is to use the match making system.
Go to map
Go to Matchmaking
Select Missions
Select Difficulty
wait
hold TAB to join a game.
I did this, rather than trying to tackle the main missions myself and it was much easier and more fun. Also, you get Phoenix Credits from main bosses, which is essential for buying high end gear. I enjoy the missions, and like Borderlands, have no issue replaying them.

Right, I knew you could do that. I'm referring to the side missions and encounters (that give you +wing supplies). Some of the missions, like the one I mentioned, have a boss right at the start, just on the street and they are close to safe houses.
It would be much faster to farm them (if it's even possible) than farm the roaming bosses. I don't even know if that is a good use of your time anymore as it apparently got nerfed.
I am looking forward to running some challenge missions with other players as you mentioned. Also, if I can find the time, I'm going to try to grind some dark zone this weekend. I read somewhere that the patch next week will reduce the rogue agent death penalty so I need to get cracking.
Having watched his review (or only?), I can see why he may feel the way he does.
SPOILERS in the video as it's a review by the way.I'm only level 9, 12 hours of game time, I have only tried a match up once and I haven't been to the DZ yet and I'm really enjoying it.
BUT I can see what he's saying may well come true for me further down the line. I love the game so far but even I'm starting to see some repetition.
As I said, I'm early doors here and so I don't feel how he does - yet - but I can see how he got there and that it might be waiting for me down the road.
I definitely hate some of the loot stuff...particularly the clothing. I am definitely done dropping med kits and tins of food or drink for civvies to get a hat

There is quite a bit of repetition, but I went into it knowing that. I kind of view the story, voice acting, setting, as a cherry on the top of the gameplay sundae. So, I'm plenty satisfied and feel like I got my money's worth so far even (just hit 30) and I plan on putting in quite a bit more time.
They did a wonderful job with the engine, and most elements of the gameplay. Looks great, optimized, very smooth, I like the feel of the weapons.
I do wish there was a bit more variety in how you move between or go into cover. I've also seen enemies perform a slide into cover that is longer and might actually replace/compete with my diving roll into cover which becomes repetitive. I can slide into cover but you have to be very close and it's almost always preferable to dive if you are under fire. Maybe I there is something I'm missing.
One of my biggest gripes is the "on the rails" feel of your ability to navigate obstacles. I'm thrilled with their decision to not include a jump key. I hate people bunny hopping everywhere, it looks stupid and destroys immersion. But the other edge of that sword is not being able to jump over some random crate, pipe, whatever. Or not being able to climb a certain wall that looks identical to a wall I just climbed 10 feet away.
The other is the damn consumables UI wheel. It works for crap on the PC - small, similar icons, and it is very, very easy to accidentally select the wrong thing, especially under fire. You pretty much have to have to use hotkeys. Which, if you are going for true l337, you need to do anyway, but my keypad is already cramped. I would love the trade off of just being able to hold my med kit key, grenade key, and then make a quick mouse movement vs binding another 10 keys.

Sometimes they will drop a gray/green item, but it is like a 95/5 split in favor of clothing. The xp gain is pretty laughable too. The only time I will give them stuff is if I'm running around collecting mats and know I will be headed back to my base where I can replenish in the med wing.
edit: Well I guess you can chord (alt, ctrl) to use the consumables. Still, I just want to use a UI wheel that works. Is that too much to ask? ;)
Yep - agreed about the jumping and the "wheel"...bloody awkward with a mouse. There was another game that had something similar but it seemed to be implemented so much better. I think it was The Witcher III...and perhaps one of the Far Cry games? I think it may be partly to do with the wheel being so small. A bigger wheel would've made it less prone to selecting the wrong thing.
Thanks for the consumables trick. I have gathered a shed load and forgot all about them!
I also on the engine. I think the game looks great and I like the story - for what it is. Like him, I was left thinking "WTF is that virus?"...but nevermind. So far I've found enough to do to clock 10 hours - which is a damn sight more than most games I buy.
I do wonder what the design decision behind having car doors ajar and you being able to rub up against them and close them. That seems to totally, uselessly random!
But - onwards. I'm enjoying it thus far.
24 hours in, halfway to Level 20. I'm enjoying it, but I think I need to take a breather. In any of these types of games (Far Cry, Saints Row, Just Cause), I find that I start getting a bit burnt out and need to spend a week or so away. I have now hit that point here, for now.
If you're going to solo the missions, wait until you're at least 3-4 levels above their suggestion. Otherwise, you will get WRECKED.
I recommend unlocking the Armory for your Security Wing, too. It gives you a second weapons vendor at the main HQ who sells high end rare guns.

Good advice here. On my way to 30, I bypassed many of the main missions (unless I needed the +500 unlock) and focused on the side missions which I could often do equal to or a bit above my level. Some of the side missions will also unlock "visit safe house X" missions which end up granting you a ton of XP for simply traveling to a safe house. I've had these chain like 3 times as well.
I think the best skill combo is seeker mine gas charge, first aid (either overdose or booster). The best part of the seeker mine is that you can deploy it, and as it follows you the recharge timer is ticking down. So, it can deploy and crowd control a group of enemies, and 5 seconds later you can use it again. Also nice is to CC a group then toss a nade that they won't dodge or, as they writhe in the in the gas, you can easily head shot them.

I actually do this anyway, but always felt I was cheating. I feel cleansed O:-)
I am level 10 and took a mission in the Level 5-9 (can't remember the area)...I was killed twice doing the main mission in that zone (restoring the power I believe).
I actually stuck another 4 hours in yesterday - so it can't be all that bad - or I just don't feel the way AJ feels yet and if I get 30 hours in, I may well do. In his video, he was ranting about the ridiculous penalties going rogue. I am fine with those huge penalties as I want to go in the DZ and co-op against tough AI.
However, I also took his point. Why have a PvP area (and apparently even advertise going rogue as an option) and then punish it so heavily. TBF, if they did remove the penalties, I probably wouldn't go into the DZ at all (I haven't yet, but I am thinking of doing so for a change of pace).
He did suggest having a dedicated PvP area where you go. I think that's good idea. Two DZs - one with PvP and one without.
Unlock the signature skill for the Medic Wing, to have an emergency AOE insta-heal. Well worth the investment to get the 1000 medic wing points to unlock it.
Sweeper mine seems more effective than the Taser turret, even with the 30% AOE effect - because the gaseous sweeper mine actively seeks out other targets, they don't just have to be in a radius.
Half the battle is crowd control, get that under your belt, and then you just need a gun with decent damage to take them out as they write and twitch in place.
Aaaaalmost level 30 now.
I love the setting and the story. Weapons don't feel too different from model to model within a type. Loot game is nice, but I don't think the DZ will hold my attention for long.
They will come with Incursions (Raids) fairly soon, so perhaps this gives some incentive for me to play more.
About 35 hrs in now and I guess I've had my money's worth in the end, but ultimately its just another video game. ;)
Received a key for this as part of a gfx card purchase -- really was not expecting this would be my cup of tea, but right now I'm seriously hooked. Only Level 8 after around 11 hours of play... guess I need to pick up the pace!
Seems like a basic thing, but the thing that I find so compelling about this is the cover system -- it's really incredible how fluid it is, and love being able to creatively use the cover of the city environment for these intense fire-fights. I thought the stealthy-cover system of MGSV was great (and it is), but this tops even that I think --
Also, as happened in Fallout 4 -- modding weapons has become kind of an obsession and end-in-itself...
The Dark Zone just got ridiculous.
I honestly think Massive was upset with the lack of PvP, and in today's patch they severely reduced the penalties for going Rogue.
The result.. Large groups of insanely powerful players going around the Dark Zone just killing everyone in a server.
This is exactly what I didn't want out of the DZ, and up until now I only had a few cases of Rogue agents.
Yeah..>I thought the DZ would be full of that but heard PvP was punished hard, so I was thinking it wouldn't be too bad. When I heard about them reducing the penalties, I just thought I'd steer clear and hope they create a Co-op only DZ.

I didn't find it to be that bad and I was playing mostly solo. The biggest problem I had was a 4th group member (troll) that kept turning our group rogue. The second time he picked on some insanely powerful guy that wasted us, lol.
I did see more rogues last night, but I made a number of successful extractions solo. I moved to the noober extraction sites and switched my signature skill to survivor link. Kind of nail biting when extracting gear I actually wanted :)
The caveat here was this was DZ2, DZ3 farming and 2 or 1 extracting. I imagine it might be worse in the upper regions or maybe I just got lucky with the guys populating my instances.
This is kind of lol, but I just figured out cover to cover moving. While in cover, you look at where you want to go (make sure you see the cover indicator), then hold down your cover key/button the entire time and you will do a fast scuttle over there. It's a very easy way to get a nice damage buff for 10 seconds using the tactical advance talent. You can easily set up some long moves before engaging the AI.
Haven't seen Yahtzee hate a game with this much relish in quite a while. It does my blackened heart good.

This is like my favorite part of the game!
(You know you can jump over obstacles while doing this too, yes?) :)

heh. It would be one thing if I didn't use cover, but the cover to cover move, while a nice option, isn't all that great. Often I would run and gun (which you can't do using the c2c move) or use the diving roll to dive into the next piece of cover. Sometimes I was just parked in one piece of cover because I had a nice dps sniper rifle.
You do lose some stealth, and as I mentioned, dps from that talent. That is actually somewhat significant if that buff covers nades and sticky bombs (I'm assuming it does) because you could easily make a very long c2c move towards unsuspecting enemies then do a sticky/nade combo. Also nice to use the talent right before you pop the +damage sig skill.
Forgot to mention: the on the move talent (30% damage reduction) is pretty huge too, and you have to be moving to have it trigger ;)
Rage, I can hear his rage! He calls you a crumbum...
So the daily missions haven't been resetting, 2nd day now. I normally wouldn't care that much, but there is a pretty great rogue hunting sniper rifle at the base vendor. 46.8k damage, Proficient (1st shot out of combat has a 46% chance to crit), and reloading.
I've read some rumors that it won't be fixed before the upcoming patch which means I pretty much can't get it. I've been using my phoenix credits to buy blueprints and respec gear so I have a dearth of credits and the rifle is 221. First item in the shop I've considered buying...
I am done with the game. Finished all the missions, but I find it a very repetitive experience now with mostly the DZ.
Its fun with a group of friends, but not so much alone.
Perhaps I'll peek in once DLC hits.
Fun while it lasted, great graphics and sound direction, cool story, but ultimately the gameplay didn't hold me for long.

No question it's repetitive, but for whatever reason I'm still enjoying it. The synergy of the engine and how they implemented the loot grinding has hooked me a bit.
I'm at about an 80% success rate when it comes to extracting high end items solo. Rather nail biting. Obviously the way to run the DZ is in a group, but I enjoy the occasional quick solo runs. I'm working on building up a non-scavenging set of gear to rogue hunt. The most dangerous game and all that :)
47 hours in and I finally got around to defeating Bliss and Last Man Battalion. So I think I'm essentially finished the campaign for now, although a new mysterious echo showed up on the map...

The first (free) dlc is coming out on the 12th, no rest for the wicked :)
Also, an amazing way to gear up on purples is to keep replaying the final mission on hard. It has a crazy number of guaranteed purple drops. You can get pretty decent quality gear fast, and it really helps you to find good chest and mask pieces that you can respec for 2 mod slots each.

I've actually cleaned up pretty well with purple gear. I think the only non-purple I'm using right now are my sidearm and my holster. Even my backup guns (LMG and SMG) are purples, and good ones at that. :)
