Hello all CS Middle East commanders out there,

Just a brief note that a new version of the 1.02 UPDATE open beta package is available to those owning the game.

It is available at the CS:ME forums, HERE (http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/fb.asp?m=4082003).

We hope this is it, so unless you guys unearth any gremlins the official update would be out sometimes in June.

Here's the Change Log as it stands:

That I do, my dear friend, that I do!

Real Life's served me a couple of rather mean curve balls during the spring, give me a couple of weeks to sort them out for good and I will return. Really looking forward to get that battle started, finally!  :)

mate, I know the feeling! Truth is, if you'd sent me a turn anytime in the last eight weeks or so, I'm not sure I'd have returned it too you very fast at all.  Be well and we'll get to it soon!

just wondering about the order of the numbers on the counters, seems like going clockwise in the order of the info box would be a better option starting with at 12 o clock.

^^ Good point.

We designed the counters as a separate entity, so they would make sense in their own as if this would be a board game. Then, the uppor row became Strength - Morale, generic characteristics, the lower row Assault - Defense, battle characteristics.

You are right they do not follow the current "compass rose" design of the unit cards. Then again, there's the wish list item for completely new unit cards at some stage...

Lots of details being changed and upgraded. There is this flux as a result.

Yes, the counter layout will likely remain as is.  It is the sidebar "unit wheel" that will change, probably to be replaced with some entirely different layout.

The OPEN BETA (http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/fb.asp?m=4082003) has been updated with a couple new features and new content.

In addition to new features in the opening post, the latest 1.02 beta version adds:

- Mouse Wheel Zoom
- Enhanced Contour Lines
- Forty (40) new Arab-Israel Wars scenarios by Alan R. Arvold

Redownload and install at your leisure.

This will be the last Open Beta before it gets shipped to Matrix/Slitherine. If you notice anything over the next few days, please let us know.

:)

We've released the 1.02 UPDATE package to Matrix Slitherine for making it public. They've got a busy release schedule ahead, but hopefully the UPDATE will become available if not next week then by the end of June. We'll see.

Meanwhile, thanks to everyone who participated in the Open Beta testing! It was the first time we tried this approach, and will be something we're sure to continue to do in future as well.

So while waiting for the 1.02 to become available, why not try out the latest Mod out just today: The Textured 2D Terrain Mod by Mike (Warhorse).

Here's a few screenshots, livens up things quite a bit I'd say:

Med terrain:
(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.matrixgames.com%2Fforums%2Fupfiles%2F32195%2FB19FC8C557A04B63B4B90048270CB05C.jpg&hash=51da41fed3cd99cfa5b19a9633bb1fe79d3eb777)

Desert terrain:

Get it HERE (http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=4102038#).

Thanks Budd!

It turned out to be quite an install, instead of releasing just some bug fixes as we first thought we'd do. Also, there's a nice selection of mods now available, to provide options for the stock content.

Here's how boardgame setup looks at the moment, with Alan's Arab-Israeli Wars situation #24 in the test bed:

To do that, I installed the following mods, in this particular order:

So once you become familiar with what each of the mod replaces with, then you can play with them together and mix and match them per their install order, without having to actually create a new Mod with all your favorite settings.

Actually, if colors are not your thing, you can also add the NATO Symbols with Transparent Background to the mix. No conflict with any of the mods so far, and by hitting <Ctrl> + <i>, you can switch the view between the black unit profiles and the black outlined NATO symbols.  O0

I believe that link points to the final 1.02 Open Beta load, the one that was sent to M/S.

The official v1.02 is not out yet, once it is these Open Betas become obsolete and need to be deactivated before running the official installer.

And the 2D Texture mod will be a separate download, available from the link in the previous page now.

there was an extra folder level for me, there were 2 warhorse textured terrain folders. Take the one inside the other and put that in your CSME mod folder.

BTW, before I found out about the JSGME I took the beta and just dropped it into my game files, rather than put it in as a mod. ::) Have I borked my install? If I have then I guess I should uninstall, reinstall and update? Or is that unnecessary?

So you did n overwrite of the game files. I imagine when it gets released thats what will happen anyway. I think they want us to use JSME so we dont bork the files ;) in case something is wrong with the beta.

It will get easier to move the Mods around once the official 1.02 update is out, and the middle_east_102_cumulative mod (ie the Open Beta) is removed. It causes a lot of warnings of overlapping files, as long as it is there. Shouldn't be too long until that, let us hope!

It might be out Wednesday from a post at Matrix forums. If your using JSME you do have to deactivate the mods when updating. If it were me i'd reinstall and update when/if it comes out on Wednesday and then reinstall JSME and apply the mods you want to use just to be safe, of course when you apply the official update it will overwrite what it needs to and then you can apply/activate the mods you want from the mod folder and that might be just fine.

So far so good for a public release this week. At best, maybe even tomorrow. Here's hoping!

Yes: make sure all mods are deactivated before  running the update. When in doubt, reinstall the whole game, should your folders be a mess mine typically are LOL.

Is it a cumulative update? Can I now get rid of my backup of 1.01?

de activate your mods in JSME and install this update. Yes you can get rid of the 1.01.

Yes, updates are cumulative. If you want to perform a complete reinstall, install 1.00 first, then follow up with 1.02.
