Came across this song again in an Alternative 80's mix on YouTube. Lots of stuff just like it that used to populate MtV in the early-mid 80's. I remember running home from school just to see what videos were going to be on. Aaaaah, the halcyon days.
Anyways, it's probably going to be Civ with some amalgamation of the usual suspects (if I can pry some of them off Stellaris
*grumble grumble*). There isn't paper and pencil D&D until next week so, that'll probably be about it.
Stellaris exclusively.
Good tune. I remember The Smithereens - don't know if it's the same band I'm thinking of though because I don't remember that particular song...some investigation required me thinks.
Stellaris has actually stolen ALL my gaming time currently.
I do have a lot of rugby to watch this weekend, which means drinking which means little gaming - but I expect it will be Stellaris
I haven't pulled the plug yet on Jomni's game - but I surely plan to do so...it just doesn't seem right as I know it will sit there for a while as I pump away at my universe.
I'll be continuing the two Stellaris MP games going. Been thinking of doing some modding for it. Want to add a few more government types for flavor and role play and expand on the racial traits.
In my Stellaris downtime, Elite will probably be my go to. I'm very slowly working my way around the galaxy. So far I've made it about 20 or so jumps from civilized space, heading in the general direction of the Witch Head nebula.
Fallout 4 just had a major DLC release so I might pick that up. Haven't played at all since I finished my first play through. Since then there's been a few patches (including a survival overhaul), DLC, and official mod tool released.
Hoping my copy of Falling Sky comes in...
Working night shifts. I have 12 hours of mostly solitary work so I often listen to audio books as I wander around the plant at night. I hate to admit it but I was running out of things to buy from my monthly Audible subscription so I picked up the Hard Magic trilogy of novels by Larry Correia and they're freaking AWESOME! They're narrated by Balki freaking Bartokamous (Bronson Pinchot) and, hard as it might be to believe, he does an amazing job of bringing the characters to life. The novels take place in an alternate reality 1930s where magic is a reality, Germany was destroyed by Tesla weapons during WWI, and the Japanese Imperium is threatening the world.
http://www.amazon.com/Magic-Grimnoir-Chronicles-Larry-Correia/dp/1451638248
Anyway, apart from listening to Balki spin a yarn, I'll probably get a bit more Stellaris in. I've been having a lot of fun with my current game but I'm now sandwiched between two stagnant ascendancies (vastly superior civilizations that have stopped developing for whatever reason) and I can't take either of them on. As I'm using hyperspace lanes, I'm kind of trapped right now. I guess I'll just keep building up and terraforming all available planets until I'm strong enough to try and take one of them on.
I've been toying with Starsector and I think there's a lot of cool stuff in the game but I'm really, really bad at playing it. I just don't have the reflexes to manage everything on screen during a battle if I have to try to control anything larger than my ship plus one or two others.
Got a couple of board games scheduled for mid-week. Star Wars: Rebellion on Wednesday and Legendary Encounters: Aliens and Wings of Glory WWII on Thursday.
Hard Magic sounds like an interesting book....will check it out.
I have too many games i want to play, not enough time and my wife watching movies on my gaming desktop :tickedoff:....
- Master of Orion CtS: playing a campaign with Psilons. I play on normal but it seems i am far behind in tech, economy etc. I've grown my Empire to about 13 planets. I will try to aim for the diplomatic victory. Maybe i'll make a break after that campaign (EA4 is on it's way).
- Grand Ages: Rome. Haven't touched it for at least two weeks and really need to work on it.
- Sengoku Jidai! Played just one battle (tutorial) and already love it. :smitten:
- Oriental Empires testing.
I think i'll keep Stellaris on the waiting list a little more until i have enough time to dive in.
Ah, The Smithereens. A post GJK (http://grogheads.com/forums/index.php?topic=16971.0) made just the other day reminded me of them and someone else...
Anyway, more Stellaris for me. And Sengoku Jidai. I think I'm also due for some more Polaris Sector and/or Master of Orion CtS.
What's Master of Orion CtS?

Well, I had to look it up as well. I see people are starting to refer to it that way so I thought I would to. :D
Yeah...MOO4 would be easier...or New MOO. ;)
I'm seriously thinking of giving Silent Hunter 4 another try. I really haven't spent much time with that game, and I'm in a submariney mood.
I'm sure I'll play some FPS games- ARMA 3 or Rising Storm or something.
I'll likely round things out with Scourge of War: Gettysburg and Madden 25 on the Xbox.
Like a number of others, Stellaris has stolen me away from pretty much anything else.
Last day of work for a 10 days! :D
Highest priority is getting the veggie garden planted.
After that:
PBEM's with Jason
VASSAL work - trying to finally finish some stuff
Lots of car work now that I have all my parts
Stellaris.
Beer and sitting by the pool.
Hosting guests this weekend and next.
Summer starts this afternoon! 8)

...Madden 25 on the Xbox.
Damn EA for stopping Madden on PC! :knuppel2:
Yeah, but I've got a really big TV, like 55" or something, and it's kind of fun to crash on the couch with my controller and crank the volume way up- it's like watching a real game!
I can't seem to get enough of Pillars of Eternity lately. I think, "Just one more quest then I'll give it a break" but then another shiny thing comes along and I'm off. About to begin my first Dragon hunt so.... there's no use resisting. Have a Groggy weekend Grogs.
Ah, the Smithereens; had a Mike Mesaros Rickenbacker bass back in the day - good times.
Anyhoo, got 2-3 weeks of yard work to tackle if the weather lets me. Otherwise, Verdun, World of Warships, and Mount and Blade: Napoleonic Battles are what I'm looking forward to.
Amusingly enough, my boy likes the Napoleonic stuff, so I need to see if I can steer him toward some similarly themed strategy games. :)
Pretty busy weekend for me however what time I do have will probably be spent with Heroes of the Storm, and the paradox trilogy of Vicky 2, HoI3 & Stellaris
I will definitely not be playing Stellaris. :P
I will probably be playing some Spellforce, the collection(s) of which I've owned forever both on disc and on Steam. I finally got through the tutorial, after at least two prior attempts -- not that the game is hard or anything, but I usually get distracted by something else -- and I feel like I'm ready to mess with the actual campaign now. (The first campaign of the first game. There are, like, seven or eight now??)
My Grand Ages: Medieval campaign may get some attention, too.
All this will no doubt be pointless once Total Warhammer is released.
Verdun, eh? Probably my worst purchase of 2015. Man, I wanted to like that game but everytime I play it anymore....yuck.
Stellaris or World of Warships when I can sneak it in at night. Sorry MD, probably won't be able to do our usual Saturday session, as I think the Honey To Do list will be big this weekend.
Will be playing Stellaris, checking out the new Polaris Sector beta patch and recording some music at home. I love me guitars.
Have to work a bunch this weekend, in between will be working on:
Sengoku Jidai
Stellaris
Dark Souls 3
ONE!
TROLL!
ARMY!
I've been playing this little Unity game this afternoon while waiting for other things at work, and it is adorable. But in a good fantasy way, not in a super-deformed sacchrine JRPG kind of way. The game has character in spades, and looks sharp as hell, and you can't beat the sale price which is free (plus less than $2 for cosmetic outfits for your troll, which dress him up as Iron Man or Batman or Robocop or a Stormtrooper or various other properties, including with mix-and-match functionality.)
I'm eagerly looking forward to burning through this game over the weekend. (It can't be too long, considering it's free.)
Not even kidding, I'm not sure I've simply loved a little game as much since Sang Froid: Tales of Werewolves.
Last week it was pretty much going to be mainly Stellaris for me but playing a bit of that made me actually spend more time playing Distant Worlds: Universe, I'm not really sure why as it is not that I disliked Stellaris and even though I've had DW since it came out I haven't really played that much of it. I suspect I'll probably play a bit more DW:U over the weekend.
Also on a whim and because I have no self control I've just picked up Last Days of Old Earth, just finished the tutorial and really like it's obvious Armageddon Empires inspiration (don't mind the graphic style of LDOE either), I think I might be playing a fair bit of this over the weekend as well.
The developers should call Verdun "Instant Death Every Time." :(
This weekend is graduation at West Point and we have Air BNB'd our house...so no gaming for me. I will sum up the wisdom of this move in its entirety when we all return home Sunday afternoon.
If I were home I would play some more Pillars of Eternity (just got my keep on Wednesday) and perhaps start AssCreed: Rogue or AssCreed: Black Flag. A new campaign in Attila: TW also beckons.
I am still holding out on buying Total War[hammer] but will be buying Sengoku Jidai as soon as I am reunited with My Precious.
Work this weekend (as I do every :tickedoff: weekend). But during my time off,
Stellaris (my near "sniff" ancient PC seems to handle it nicely) - I read a great article on Matchsticks for My Eyes and he covered Stellaris with an "Empire of the Shimmering Stars." check it out.
http://www.matchstickeyes.com/
I have been digging into the first novel of "Legend of the Galactic Heroes Vol:1 Dawn " I found it at B&N a couple weekends ago. Apparently this is the first time they're releasing it translated into English. The second novel comes in a few months. Just to find some ideas for a possible mod.
MD, excellent video pick.
Gus, that's what God created laptops.
Thank you, CJReich O0
Tuna, if the Honey Do list is that long, how are you going to find time to play Stellaris or WoW? Sounds like you're just ditching me. :(

Cause I'm playing those at night! >:D
I noticed earlier this year somewhere that Legend of the Galactic Heroes was (or is already) getting a new animation. Presumably one with music they actually paid for instead of rented, so that they can release the dang thing legally in the future rather than rely on fansubs. ;)
I can't afford a sweet rig and a sweet laptop on a Specialist's salary, Commander.

M&B Napoleonic Wars can be so much hilarious multi-player fun. O0
^is m&b nappy still played online much? Agreed that it is both fun and fairly hilarious. Love the bagpipe players!
I spent most of last night playing rising storm. Got on a good server and had some tough matches but man alive do I utterly suck.
Finished out with poker night at the inventory where I lost the tourney to strong bad on a bad flop. >:(

I play it MP every once in awhile.
Most players are usually doing 'Siege' mode. Last few times I played, there were usually 50 or 60 players on one of the Siege servers.
Went on some role playing server that had nearly 150 out of 200 slots filled (Russian peasant represent, yo) so I think it still has some life in it.

Sure does. Because it's MP setting is so fun & rather unique for an FPS.
Dunno how many laughs I've had from seeing cannonballs to the face, people getting blind-sided by bayonets, or some cavalryman dude, while kneeling & reloading their musket. Just plain fun without being too "twitchy".
Ok, I'm going to give this a try again. I haven't played it in quite a while...no reason, just fell off my radar.
Finished the tutorial campaign for One Troll Army. For a free game, it's pretty punchy; as noted, lots of character.
One very odd bit of unexpected character, related to being "punchy", that players may have trouble with, though -- I sure did -- is that the devs chose a curious physical realism for the Troll. He punches weird.
By which I mean that, because he's built very much like King Kong (somewhat mixed with the Hulk and a dash of the ogre Shrek), he has trouble simply punching one of the little enemies in front of him, because his body is usually resting on the other hand like a gorilla. So when he punches, he can plink straight ahead effectively enough but that's rather random. More usually he makes big looping swipes with one or the other arm, which completely miss whatever is in front of him and will end up clipping the top of whoever is standing about 45 degrees off to one side or another -- and then his body swings over to face 90 degrees left or right of where he started.
This is super annoying. So much so, it took me a while to infer that this was design and not a bug. The troll would be too powerful with his basic attack if he was actually good at it, so it helps with game balance as a side effect: you need to be a good leader to the goblins in building up fort defenses between waves (mostly towers on the corners, maybe also orc mercenaries), because you can't quite rely on the troll to be successful as a one troll army.
Still, I could easily imagine players just cussing and giving up; can't say I'd blame them either.

Welcome to the Grogs veb_yw. Happy to have you amongst us here.
Welcome veb!
I only managed to play 2 games this weekend:
- I finished my 3d Master of Orion CtS campaign (huge, with the Psilons). It's been my second loss (tech victory by the Meklars). I was fairly close behind but the Meklars were ahead in everything. My first loss was an excellence loss to the Klackons (me as the Darloks). Both games in EA3 and on normal. I will make a break until EA4. I've had fun with it but there are still some balance issues (diplomacy), some bugs and some features missing/incomplete (minor races, espionnage). Still waiting until i see the final product before i make a judgement. All i can say, is that the game is not ready yet.
- I completed a city in Grand Ages: Rome....getting close to the end of the campaign. Funny thing is that i've played about as much Master of Orion as Grand Ages: Rome but get the impression that i've played GA: R a lot more....
- I also continued an Armada 2526 Gold campaign...a huge map with 1'000 turns.

I never got into Civ 5. Just could not accept the 1 unit per tile and Civ 5 games seemed less "epic". Really hoping they discontinue that in Civ 6.
Thanks to all for the welcome!
In Civ 6 I believe it will still generally be one unit per tile, but a selection of them will be stackable.

I can see the snail trails from here! :)
@jamus and @tuna: :P
@veb: I'm with ya'. V seemed washed out and bland color wise and one unit per hex is like playing Panzer General with city building. VI is supposed to be more of the same. I just hope they brighten the colors and that armies that can be loaded with units becomes a 'thing'.

But your fine with Warlock, same type of rules.
The city building aspect is not as deep in Warlock. Nor are the culture considerations. Warlock is build to grow fast, produce money/research/units and attack your enemies before they attack you. The AI is not especially bright and when you have the hammer, you should use it.
Civ is all of those things but deeper. And the AI is better.
...Warlock..............
Did somebody say 'Warlock'
Oh god...don't mention the pumpkins to him...
ALL HAIL PUMPKINS!
