Title: Renegades of Friday
Post by: tgb on November 04, 2016, 05:43:13 AM
Time to spend some bread. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3iW2_Ec3uEU)

Now that the car shopping is over, I'll have some weekend time to game again.

Continuing my Japanese campaign in Civ VI, more testing of Afghanistan 11, and a game or two of Political Animals, which is starting to grow on me.

wow....I'm really not sure what to think of that video! Quite liked the song though.

Titanfall 2
F1 2016 - continue my career into Canada
DCS - learn the Su-25T
Mafia II - get going on the campaign so I can get to III

I think Titanfall 2 has taken away my itch for Battlefied 1 - I think I'm safe for the moment, though the Dishonoured 2 ads I keep seeing are grabbing my attention.

Have a good one peeps.

With my 2 week Reserve happy-fun-time starting this weekend and me being stuck with my old laptop that can push old-school Counterstrike and not much else, my options are going to be limited indeed.

Really need to fix that issue one of these days.

But, it does have all my right proper grog games on it (i.e. War Plan Orange, Tiller's WW1 Squad Battles, etc.), so not all is lost.

Same as usual...too many games i would like to play....too little time and wife using the main desktop most of the time.... <:-)

Plan is:

- Master of Orion....continue my campaign with the Alkari. Had to reajust a lot due to the last patch (new pollution system, new gravity system etc).
- Started a new game of Horizon with the Kuntaris.
- Birth of the Federation if i can't play on the desktop.
- Maybe some Pre-Civilization Egypt....

Do what you're gonna do but please leave tgb's original selection a part of it....awesome song and quite appropriate for the theme of the thread, especially for us old dudes!   \m/
For the weekend I'm finally trying to learn Command Modern Air and Naval Operations, actually got victories in a couple of the tutorial scenarios last night.

PBEM Plan Orange with SDR.... still not getting the hang of this game...  L:-)

PBEM Flashpoint Campaign RS with OJsDad... we're having some real slugfests with this, great WWIII stuff.  :bd:

VASSAL work.... I may be coming to the end of my VASSAL work... 10 years in and I'm losing my drive to do more....  :(

Play testing LnLT Solo addition to the series. Looks interesting so far.  O0

Playing with Civ VI... it's rough but there is enough new in there to keep me playing while waiting for the first patch.

Last of the fall yard work and prep the Miata for winter hibernation.

I would like to give FM20xx another chance (I think I have 14 or 15)
Rimworld and Stellaris call on the sci-fi side.
Witcher 3, Stardew valley and shadow warrior 2 when I can

Some multi-player flying in DCS again.

Maybe try out the new Armored Warfare mode, or just do some War Thunder tanks/airplanes if I don't want to cram anything new into my thinkmeats.

Hell, I dunno.  Whatever sounds good in the moment.  Maybe do some minis painting again, get all Bob Ross 'n shit.

Am I a bad employee because I'm sitting here browsing this forum (and looking at videos of various game reviews and "let play" videos)?  :-"

I'm trying to decide what game to buy tonight.....JTCS, Civ 5 or Medieval II: Total War.

JTCS kind scares me since HoI4 was above my head and I don't like all the production/political stuff, so I'm trying to find another WW2 strategy game and I'm wondering if the Tiller game will also frustrate my pee brain capacity.

Finishing up my 15mm panzer grenadiers this weekend!

Well... I did have a white man Afro as a kid, into my teens.  But after I grew my hair down to my ass, and then cut it all off about 7 years later, it's been nowhere near as curly.

So NO!  And I don't miss my cracka-fro either!

Well as for me - Sat morning, work. Sunday morning work. No biggie it's my job.

So it was pay day today. (after paying Rent sigh...) I might be looking at the GOG.com sale.  :arr:

However I did grab Thea: The Awakening on Steam during their Halloweenie sale. Loving it. I even have the Rise of the Giants and the story DLC (which were free).  I am still in my first game I haven't calculated score yet.  My villagers led by Mokosh have been doing rather well.

Baldur's Gate: EE - still exploring mostly to get everyone ready to go into Cloakwood.

I think that's about it actually.

Continue my CSME pbem games with Jason and Crossroads and playing Empyrion. Restarted Empyrion with the experimental build. Got my first space ship built, havent went into space yet , using it to get around the planet. Base build is getting pretty far along, going to start securing supplies for my capital ship build and thinking of taking my small ship to the moon.

I dare you to come to Origins and say that!!  Hair metal is a scourge upon the world of music and Bon Jovi should be hated with the heat of a 1,000 suns!!!!!  To wash the taste of hair spray and poseur out of our mouths, I give you Slayer:

As for FRIDAY thread rules/etiquette, there's nothing set in stone, but I have always tried to do these things:

1)  Capitalize FRIDAY.  I always imagine it as a scream.  Kind of like psyching yourself up for the weekend like when you were a teenager.

2)  Use FRIDAY in a lyric from the song you are posting.  It doesn't always fit, but, I try to make it sound like it belongs in the song.

3)  Actually start the thread on FRIDAY.  I am super glad that our Grog brethren from around the world gather here and recognizing that, I realize that FRIDAY starts at different times for everyone.  A chance for the Dog (yes, I just went third person), to get up and see if anyone has started one is much appreciated.

4)  Make sure your video displays.  Let everyone see what you like to listen to.

5)  Anyone can start a FRIDAY thread.  Whether you have one post or 25,000 posts, doesn't matter.  Just try to follow the 'rules.'

Although there are one or two "hair bands" that can get a free pass from me.  Notably GnR (not exactly a "hair band", some would say), and perhaps the early Crüe (Shout At The Devil and Theatre Of Pain albums).. ya know.. before they cleaned up their drug habit.  ;D

Starting my second game Civ6.  The first game was, surprisingly to me, my first Civ game among many, many games in all the different versions in which I did not ever go to war, winning on points.

My second game will not go that way.  I'm determined to be a first class warmonger from beginning to end.  I'm playing the Greeks and I've been to war twice so far in the early game.

I have some free time today so I've been dusting off the flight sim library and seeing what works and what doesn't.

I installed Battle of Britain 2: Wings of Victory and managed to get the latest upgrade for it installed, 1.13 I think.  But I still get this weird tearing when I pan the view, and I can't find a v-sync setting which is what it really appears to need.  So just goofed off in that to ensure it will play, and the HOTAS works.

I've been flying some missions in WOFF, but still on the v.2.  I need to get many more hours out of it before I'm ready to shell another $50 to get the latest upgrade.

I have a desire to do some MP flying, so I downloaded the latest Team Fusion mod for IL-2: Cliffs of Dover, which I've owned for a while but have never played.  I may start working on that later and if I can figure it out, hook up on the ATAG server for some dogfighting.

Finally, I'm re-downloading Rise of Flight to see if there are still any dogfight servers running.  I might re-install DCS as well, but the idea of trying to configure that mess, not to mention figure out what to even install, has me hesitant to burn up too much playing time today.  I would like to get on a dogfight server with you guys, though.

I'll be dungeon mastering the kids D&D 5e campaign for several hours this afternoon.

Nice!

I keep intending to run a Star Wars RPG session, with the gamer nephews, but it's always so much easier to just set up a board- or minis-game instead.

The temptation for the easy power of the dark side is always present.  :-"

What Star Wars RPG system?  We play the FFG system, but frankly I find the deterministic dice rolls in a d20 system much easier to deal with as a gm.

With the DCS World client, it's just one install.  The modules you own are all contained within the single client.

The problem is that you'll have to bind your HOTAS/joystick keys for each aircraft model.  Although all the Flaming Cliffs 3 aircraft keybinds can be loaded into others, with only a few hotkey commands being different between them.

You gotta remember that each hardware column has to be saved as a separate file, however.  (one for stick, one for throttle, for example).

As for ROF dogfight servers.. I'm pretty sure the popular ones are still running.  I'm not sure which type you're referring to (Full Realism or those with nametags enabled & such) but player population has always been steady, even if rather low at times.

There's usually a rise in server population during & after a ROF sale, for obvious reasons.  But I think many who've enjoyed it come to revisit regularly.

FFG, of course!

I think the dice system is a pretty good brainstorming narrative tool for the dice rolling situations.  Just takes a little time to get in the flow.  Getting the players to also participate in the narrative interpretation of them is getting over the bump, and lessens the load.  :nerd:

Yeah.  We played the beginner boxes to start out with and those are really great for new players to the system.  I'd recommend going that route to teach them the system.   The problem with interpretive dice rolls is that EVERY roll becomes an improv session, so if both players and GM aren't into that it becomes very tedious very quickly.

Frankly, I'd rather start out with the similar, but older, system in Warhammer Fantasy RP 3rd Edition.

While there are often more dice in each roll, and more factors adding/subtracting them, the varied results are more straightforward & listed directly on the cards.  Makes for a lot of extra text on ability results, so I guess that's why they went with all those cards & such; to keep character sheets from being four pages long & full of the different dice results.  But it's still more varied & detailed than Pass/Fail/Crit results.

But the Star Wars IP is a pretty big thing with 'em.

I installed Battle of Britain 2: Wings of Victory and managed to get the latest upgrade for it installed, 1.13 I think.  But I still get this weird tearing when I pan the view, and I can't find a v-sync setting which is what it really appears to need.

Can't you force it to use v-sync with the video card software (e.g. AMD Catalyst / Crimson) ?

^ Not sure, but that's worth trying.  I'll see if I can figure it out.

I think you need to play some Gears of War / Shadow Warrior 2 / Postal to wipe the stench of the last one off ;)

J/K - I wish I can find a game that interests my wife enough to play with me.

Few tequila shots helped to dance without feeling the pain of this game, also I wiped the stench with a lot of hours playing Arma 3... I am glad that my wife played something related to video game finally, it is much better signing and dancing to Abba every weekend.

It was flight sim Friday in casa Toonces.  Man alive did I play the hell out of WOFF last night!  Great game.

I also futzed around with BMS Falcon, and I did some multiplayer ROF on the New Wings server. I saw Father Ted on there for a while, but didn't run into him in the air.

Today I'm going to work on getting CLOD fixed up with the Team Fusion mod.  From what I've seen, there is some complexity to overcome learning to fly that one.

WOFF though, man there were some white knuckle fights.  I got into one where I was chasing one of those British bombers and I followed him too long and got jumped by 3 French Nieuports, I think.  I'm circling with those guys a while and finally one of them gets a pilot hit on me, blood splatters all over my goggles.  So I point my nose at the ground, pull out at the last second, chop throttle and go to ditch...actually touch wheels to the ground and realize I'm still alive, my plane still works, and that Nieuport broke off, so back to full throttle and I scoot home.  Damn!

Been playing some Marvel Ultimate Alliance this AM with my son. Kicking the crap out of Doom bots never gets old.

Also played a game of General Quarters on Friday night (naval minis game). Did a Dogger Bank scenario. Lots of fun, but a couple of guys had to bail early and the game fizzled out before a decision was reached.

Yep, spotted you on the server.  I think we were on the same side so there was no possibility of Grog on Grog action.  I'm usually on the NW TS server, so if you see me on again drop in.

Are the ROF Full Realism servers still steady with some players too?  Last I visited, there were usually at least a dozen players on during prime time.  Much fun.

I have:

- Completed and won my first game of Civilization V. The antic scenario where 8 Wonders have to be built.
- Lost my campaign (points) with the Alkari in Master of Orion CtS despite the fact that i took Orion and was crushing the poor Darloks. The Humans won.
- Started a new game with the Mrsshan (my daughter always want to be a girl in the game, of course) of Master of Orion CtS.
- Starded a campaign in Gates of Troy as Sparta...already have 10 cities.
- Continued building up the city of Alexandria in Grand Ages: Rome with my daughter.
- Played a couple of turns of my old Birth of the Federation Romulan campaign and a few turn of my new Horizon campaign.
- Installed Stellaris on my laptop so i can finally play it when my wife is on the desktop!

We were on New Wings Wargrounds at about 2200 GMT and it was pretty full.  I usually find that Friday and Saturday late evenings (for me, GMT) see the WG server full enough for decent action

I couldn't not post to the THREAD.

Playing a game called remodel. It takes way longer to finish than you thought and costs twice as much.

Good.  I figured they would still be hoppin'.

Tuna and I have briefly discussed wanting to go back for some more ROF multi-player.  Just gotta put it somewhere in the massive game queue.
