Title: FRIDAY, Rise!
Post by: BanzaiCat on January 27, 2017, 06:30:38 AM

Holy crap, first time I've been able to start a Friday thread...unless one of you buggers ninja'd me on it and I missed it!

Anyway...B-17 Queen of the Skies fer shur, maybe painting some of my Shadows of Brimstone minis, too.

And you even did it right!  Good job by you, B_C.

This weekend is our p&p D&D on Saturday night.  I am in the midst of drawing maps, typing stories and getting NPC's together.  We are approaching the final descent into Wave Echo Cave.  Any non-D&D game time will probably be spent searching for the damned Moors in Medieval 2: Total War and trying to overcome the cheating AI that always threatens to excommunicate me if I finish off France or Milan.

Oh yes...if Monday counts as part of the weekend (eh, kinda sorta), I'll be playing DnD for the first time since 1991 or so, this coming Monday. So I guess that sorta counts, too, except to Napoleonics elitists like Cyrano. ;)

If I play anything MP at all, it will likely be:

DCS

or maybe Il-2: BoS

Welllllllllll, kind of right - the vid doesn't show on my phone or iPad suggesting a wonky 'brant can fix it' link but almost!

Not understanding the mechanics of the wood elves or the beast men in totalhammer war im watching let's plays of both and the urge to play is burning my fingers, but I've just completed the dwarves and have moved on to others for now.

I'm really enjoying my latest game of endless space 2 and given an uninterrupted session with it could probably finish my first campaign there

Men of war assault squad 2 vanilla and call of duty mod also beckon

Also been studying up on FFG's Star Wars tabletop RPG here & there.

Because there's a good chance I'll probably run Play-By-Post RPG session(s) with it here on the forum.   :nerd:  If I'm confident enough in the off-site special dice roller we need to use.

Sweet baby Skywalker!  Won't that take about 4-6 hours to play?  Probably a lot more the first time.

Finally getting into Sow: Waterloo and now wishing I had pulled the trigger on the two expansions for 50% off during the Matrix holiday sale.  Also playing Polaris again, determined to figure out the tech research part of the game.

PBEM Flashpoint Campaigns: ReForged with OJsDad... My Russians are currently getting stomped pretty badly...  :(

PBEM Labyrinth with SDR ... he's writing about it in the boardgame AAR section if you want to see my flailing about as the US... :P

Need to finish up the beer holders for my game table. Gaming weekend coming up next weekend...  :D

Squeeze in some Civ VI with a Giant Earth mod with true start locations.... it really huge and puts a strain on my 16BG system.  :D

Not sure what I'm going to bugger with. The Division by default but I'm eyeing trying out a Vietnam mod for Insurgency that looks pretty tight - or maybe the Faces of War mod for Arma 3.

I'm looking to do a crossover thing with the group I'm with that has first-person-shooter elements but in a historical combat environment, so if anyone has any suggestions, please feel free to let 'em fly.

Now that I've finally remembered how to play the game again (because it's honestly been that long -- we're talking years!), I'm gonna get down with Imperium Galactica II this weekend.  \m/  Starting as the Solarians for my first time back.

I've also started a new Dwarven campaign in Warhammer Total War, this time as Grombrindal (The White Dwarf).  However, I'm not sure how much time I'll get to spend on it, as it's gonna be a busy weekend at work.

Am also hoping to play some Armada 2526 PBEM.  Now that my turn finally showed up (after all this time ??? :buck2: ), we're now just waiting on one other person so we can get things rolling.  :knuppel2:

@Gus:  My son and I are given when doing the grocery shopping to cruising about in our angel of speed cart.  I push and he stands right in front of me with his feet on the rear axle and his hands also on the pushy-bit.

He's learned to do a fairly good Chumbucket and, as we're speeding through the aisles, we've more than once gotten a look when he says things like, "Pizzas, Saint, we need pizzas" or "staff blocking the aisle, Saint, shall I harpoon them?"

Great stuff.

I think this weekend will be "Six Days" work, CS PBEM, Tiller PBEM, and DoW:II co-op with which my son has lately become obsessed.

Continuing Fire in the Grogs with ArizonaTank -- currently my turn to play the Viet Cong and then the North Vietnamese.

Continuing my Long War 2 campaign. No inescapable wipes yet, though I'm not fool enough to play on Ironman. ;)

Hope to do another entry on my Battle for Middle-Earth 2 dwarven campaign AAR; closing in on the end. Circling the drain. Something like that.  :crazy2:

Get to maybe play with the nieces tomorrow morning (and/or with the Bro), unsure what we'll do.

More Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30 -- not yet back to where I couldn't continue last time (or words to that effect). I've been watching a collection of the extra material as I go, so I don't have to play through twice on hard and extra-hard to unlock them. I adore this game.  O0

(Note that if you like both Brothers In Arms and XCom, I've played the full campaign of The Bureau: XCom Declassified, and it's basically those two games mixed together. It may have released buggy, but it ran fine on my Win 8.1 machine a year or two ago -- one of the first games I ran on it actually. You may be disappointed that the game doesn't stay with the G-Men vs Aliens theme very far, but in standard XCom fashion you tech up pretty quickly. It's just, y'know, 1950s steampunk tech.)

More WH40: Sanctus Reach perhaps.

I actually ended up playing some Diablo 3 for the first time in quite awhile, late last night.

Went surprisingly well with some old thrash metal blaring in the background.  Because that theme IS metal and features "loot pinatas" full of armor often suited most to Cenobite fashion sensibilities.  \m/

Finally grabbed the expansion pack.

I tried PoE when it first came out.   Made my video card and/or CPU fans run double-time back then.  I expect they optimized enough to fix that by now.

Was on the fence regarding it's mechanics.  I'll eventually get around to trying it out again sometime.  But I have quite a few unfinished ARPGs so no hurry.

Instead, for some reason I'm playing XCOM: Enemy Unknown.  In Heroes and Generals, I did rig up my SVT with a scope -- it lets you see things like enemy soldiers strolling down the road at a few hundred yards.  The real advantage is that it works like binoculars or ordinary eye-sight (its hard to tell in games like this) AND even with lots of ammo its not as ubulky as a light machine gun so I can carry some antipersonnel grenades as well as AT grenades.

The bi-monthly D&D game just wrapped.  I introduced the bad guys to our heroes at the inn.  They asked the bad guys to accompany them to try and find Wave Echo Cave.  On the way there, they stumbled on an ogre and his goblin minions torturing a poor gnome before eating him.  The heroes surprised the monsters and, in the melee, our tank slew the gnome by accident.  Unfortunately, the gnome was the guy that knew the entrance to the trail leading to Wave Echo Cave.  Now I have to figure another way to get them there.  I think I'll let them fall into the clutches of an old enemy who will bring them to the Spider.

Lots of CMANO stuff. Streamed yesterday morning, working on orders of battle for 3 scenarios, and been doing some beta testing.

I'm done scanning all of the current ancient ruin site in Elite, just waiting on the community to find the next sites. Have a little over two weeks left to complete the 200 million credit mission. Hoping Frontier will extend the time limit out if the next alien sites are not found soon.

EU4, Cities Skylines, and Planet Coaster are all possibilities to close out the weekend, just going to depend on how I'm feeling later in the day.

I've been playing Curse of the Azure Bonds.  You have to keep saving because if you miss a couple of saving throws against a high level mage or dragon your character is toast even if they have 97 hit points.

I finished that game, but it was ridiculously hard, as you suggest.  I found that was the only gold-/silver-box game where I ever needed a Cleric with 17 or 18 Dexterity just to get the "Silence 15' Radius" spell off first!

Funny you should mention falling rocks, JP.  After the ex-gnome was saved, he was going to lead the characters to the path.  Along said path, an old enemy was going to ambush the party at a narrow spot in the trail between high rock walls by causing a rock slide at both ends of said trail.  Now, I think I am going to have a night ambush by the old enemy an take the party captive.  That should at least get them on the path.  Maybe all the way to Wave Echo Cave.

Thinking about it a bit, I could use Freyland's suggestion.  Say that the gnome who died was too slow or sacrificed himself so the others could get away.  Then have a few of them creep back after the battle and fill the directional role.
