Going to Bovington Tank Museum - Tiger Day tomorrow with an old army buddy and staying in Poole to get pished.
Gaming for what's left of the weekend though will be Battletech which I'm enjoying very much so far and can't wait to get into the "mercenary" aspect of it (taking missions, buying/collecting stuff, upgrading). There will possibly also be some God of War which I'm picking up at lunchtime and maybe - if I can squeeze it in - some F1 2017 where I'll be going into 2nd Practice at Silverstone.

Endless Space 2 - they just released a series of comics based on the various races in the game... now I really want to play it again. If you have the game, the latest update put the comics in the games folder. Some really cool stuff. Very short story/teaser type stuff.

Genesis VASSAL - Egypt slowly getting it's shit together.... just about time for another barbarian invasion... :P

By the hair on my chinny chin chin I defeated the Greeks last night in the second battle of my Philip of Macedon campaign in Field of Glory 2. The last count was 63% of the Greeks routed/destroyed to 59% of my Macedonians. Now it's on to Thrace, but I am a little nervous that I don't have enough troops to take them on. I'll find out, I guess. Then it's on to the Alexander the Great 'What If' campaign.
Also may play some Apotheon...have had that game forever.
...amending my list, I will also play some God of War on the PS4. Forgot I picked that up. Apparently, its like the best game ever made.
And will never see the light of day on a PC, like Bloodborne? :(

Possible but From Software does have a precedence in releasing games to PC.
Now God of War on the other hand is a first party, Sony developed game so that makes sense.

Some boardgame Hoplitic warfare (Tyrants! or something), the usual War thunder moments of wonder (as in last night everything seemed to bounce off my Sherman II -- perhaps I accidently angled the thing properly three times in a row? or my ping was close to ZERO? Or the Germans were shooting HE in hopes of hitting me in the back while I was facing them? Or they were trapped in Zoom in Sniper mode? or they could not stop themselves from backing behind a building, waiting for me to reload and then driving out with their sides exposed?) and some Republican Bayonets on the Rhine (Tourcoining -- perhaps the most confused battle of 1793).

Been super busy this last month. Probably played a total of ten hours of games. Got a little time tonight and it will be Civ IV as Zara Yaqob. Playing on Prince with 3 AI. Charlemagne just declared on me after spending the entire game as a valuable trading partner. He was already at war with Isabella, who I warred with earlier. She immediately asked to reopen our borders and I have sent a strike team to gain experience killing Franks.

Oh but it
is spiral bound... it just has an outer cover over the binding. Coincidentally, I even have my original manual from when I first bought the game back in 1991 (or maybe 92, not sure). The rest of the game items were given away in 2005 by my (Now Ex) Wife along with my original Amiga500, monitor, Commodore64, and TRS80 Color ComputerII, recently forcing me to scour eBay after getting bitten by the vintage computing bug.
I hung on the manual for sentimental reasons after that. Also, the first 60 pages are basically a history lesson of the Battle of Britain, so a keeper for that reason as well.

I actually played that more than TFH, but it was only released for DOS. I still have SWOTL, both as part of the LucasArts 3 game bundle (Battlehawks, TFH, SWOTL) on 3 1/2 floppy, and also by itself on CD w/ all expansions.
I'm going to be setting up a nice DOS/WIN95 retrobox in the near future. I've already located a nice 17" CRT with what I suspect might be a Trinitron (or equivalent quality) picture tube.

^Man, someone in that thread mentioned Battlehawks 1942 - I had that on the Amiga as well. Loved it too. Still - a modern remake would be the cat's meow.
Just beat the Athenians in my King Philip campaign (Field of Glory 2) and now moving on to the 4th of 5 campaign missions, the Scythians. Also downloaded a bunch of new user made single player campaign mods, including the Silk Road campaign that incorporates Chinese factions in to Field of Glory 2 by our very own jomni.
Drinking beer now in celebration of this bumper crop of new gaming.
I know what you mean - I bought the Tank Battle and Civil War packs for a buck each, even though I got a few of 'em for free on my iPad for reviews a few years back. Nice to have them on my PC. I just wasted a good hour or so playing the Civil War Gettysburg game which is quite fun.

I've also just about got my new Falcon set up with all of the old files transferred. The only major things left are stored email and my email contacts. I really hope I can get into my email contacts.
One more week of work and then I'm off for 3 months. No more teaching summer school for me ever again.
I had a free night at a Marriott, so my wife and I decided to take a quick trip to see the American Revolutionary War museum that opened last year in Yorktown VA:

We drove down Friday night, spent the night in Williamsburg, saw the museum on Saturday, then had lunch in Yorktown before driving home. The museum is nice, and is a good addition to Williamsburg, Jamestown, and the Yorktown Victory Center which are all in the area, but I don't think the museum would be worth a trip just to see only it.
I had hoped to spend some time on the ASL game I set up, but I'm going to do yardwork this morning and play tennis this afternoon. I'm also in the midst of overhauling the hydraulic disc brakes and the fork on my mountain bike, so I have plenty of projects going on. On the other hand, this past week I turned down a promotion which would have meant a lot more responsibility for only a little more pay. I had been busy with that application since January and then the decision was weighing on me, but now that the decision is behind me, I can enjoy the free time I would have lost had I accepted the job.
Congratulations on not getting the job! Nobody needs more aggravation for not as much pay. Besides, that gives you more time to hang with us O0

Was that TRS-80 a 'model III' or a 'Color Computer III'? If the latter, you had what was the last of a line of underdog computers that actually had more horsepower than a Commodore 64.
Tandy/Radio Shack was at a crossroads at the time, trying to decide if they were going to keep pushing on with their own unique line of computers (the TRS-80 Color line) or knuckle under and start making PC clones (the Tandy 1000). They ended up choosing assimilation, which is why so many of your early DOS game boxes say 'DOS/Tandy1000' on the lower left cover.

That I did. Radioshack went all in with the Tandy 1000 line and pretty much both did in IBM's PCjr while still cracking open the home computer market for IBM PC compatibles. As a result Amiga died and Apple spent a decade stumbling around in the Wilderness.

I had a TRS-80 Model I what came with 4K of RAM. Upgradeable for a scant $250 in 1979 money to 16k.
And I still miss my Amiga 500.

No, it did not. It had 24K of RAM and no floppy. The next birthday, he got me a 5.25" floppy and DOUBLED the ram to 48K! Talk about ballin'.
And there was no pr0n back then in the BBS days. Well, okay, there MAY have been, but naive me was totally unaware of it. Hell I didn't find the first weird 'adult' themed game on a BBS until I stumbled on one back in 1996 or so.

My very first home computer was a Texas Instruments TI99-4a with no peripherals or drives at all. I programmed it with simple entries I found in the backs of magazines. I was 9 and had a choice between that and the Timex Sinclair.
I graduated to a C-64 with a 1541 disk drive around 1987. My cousin had a Vic-20 with a tape drive!
Around 1990 I spent about 1000 dollars of my savings I got from summer jobs to get my Amiga 500 with a memory upgrade and fancy monitor. I got Shadow of the Beast as my first Amiga game. Didn't have my first PC until 1998, a couple of years after college...but my cousin had one, with an amber display, which we used for Print Shop, Hardball, and Test Drive. Man... I can still smell that Vic-20.
in the 1980s I had a hand-me down Tandy. Was never able to get it running though and I'm not even sure what the specs were. My first real computer that I bought was a 386. It was state of the art when I bought her.
Gus, the children will never know the joy of leaving behind the TRS-80's cassette drive and having a 1541 spool up an actual WORD PROCESSOR in mere minutes.

Nearest place to do that was about 45 miles away. :o But it was worth it! The Intellivision was one of the first game consoles I guess but man did it have lots of great games to play. :D My first computer game was SSI's "Kampgruppe". Ha! I remember the "*" was for the filename (* was wildcard) and I think the 8 was the device (my monstrosity of a disk drive). Can't remember what the 1 was for.
I took a Data Processing class back in about '89 or '90 I think. I wasn't good at the whole, "If-Then" thing. I did make-up a couple of battles for "Battles of Napoleon" using the Editor though and that wasn't as much fun as playing them so I quit.

I usually fall under the "I have no clue" portion.
The '1' in LOAD "*",8,1 tells the system to load the program to a part of the memory specified by the program itself, which was how 'machine-language' programs were set up to run properly. Leaving off the '1' would load the program into the first available free memory which was presumably ok for simple BASIC programs.

To go really old skool you would type only 'LOAD' which would cause the C64 to default to searching the Datasette (cassette tape) drive, which was how programs were saved and loaded before folks upgraded to 1541 floppy drives. To keep track of what programs were on the tape you needed to have noted what number the tape counter was at when you had earlier hit the 'save' command. Then later you would manually advance the tape to that number before issuing 'LOAD'.
Many of those early programs are now available as sound files that you can play from a smartphone through a special cable to spoof the C64 into thinking you have an original Datasette attached.
We're diving deep in to nerddom now.
