My service for the community today. Let's go shopping, byotches!
:D
My only real must buy is Monster Train.
I am also intrigued by home world Deserts of Kaharak for $4.99
Also there's a couple of board game adaptations I'll probably grab too.
<covers ears with hands> I'm not listening! LALALALALA....
OK Gus ..copied over from the 2019 thread...... ;)
First purchase off the wishlist for 2020 Summer Sale ....... ::)
Ageod "Wars of Succession " ....a nice £5.94
Happy with that.
Hmm Gears Tactics @ 40.00 does not quite tickle my pickle, but if it's the only item I buy...
Hmm Steam has a Road Trip Special that takes 5.00 off your first purchase of 30.00 or more, bringing my total to 35.00 and tickling my pickle more.
The one that has to that for you in real life may not be happy about your pickle being tickled by something else.
I can't access my wishlist at all :(
Oh dear.
(Hitches up pants)
Let's do this. :coolsmiley:
^Don't be afraid!
Lol.
So far I've just been cleaning my wishlist (removing items I no longer want) rather than purchasing anything :P

Been doing the same thing. Although I did buy a few DLCs I've been eyeing for awhile.
Busy at work atm but took a moment to visit Grogs. (It's on my daily to do list at work. Isn't one of your action items each day?)
Anyways gonna log into Steam now and see what I'm going to throw my money at later when I get home. :)
Nowadays it's rare for me to find anything in these Steam sales that I can't find cheaper (or as cheap) through re-occurring sales already. In the past I would purchase a ton during the sales, now I just spread it out the entire year. Of course I'll still look around in case there is something special out there:)
I am way behind. I don't have a pickle yet. :-\
Managed to trim my wishlist to 365 so far.
I've been eying some games, but am unlikely to buy anything.
I grabbed a couple of oldies that I have already on DVD somewhere (Silent Hunter IV and Drakensang: River of Time) and some DLC for Warhammer 40K: Gladius.
Don't think there's a lot for me anymore.
Yeah, I have to say I'm not too enthused about the sale. None of the discounts are all that appealing to me, or I just own anything I'm remotely interested in. I actually removed a game from my cart that's discounted to $0.80 just because I can't be bothered to pretend like I'm ever going to play it instead of the countless other games in my library I've already bought and haven't gotten into.
I'm actually more interested in using my accrued points to spend on steam chat emojis than anything else. :idiot2:
EDIT: Actually, I did end up grabbing the Clad in Iron games I was still missing. SO there's that.
I am interested in going back to Battletech and getting the three bigger DLCs for it, but the reviews are mixed. Anyone have an opinion on them?
My pickle (aka my dongle) is nowhere enthused about this supposed Steam sale. Same old, same old. Bring back the days of having to keep track of countdown clocks for super discounts. Annoying yes, but much better deals. This sale is just meh...maybe worse than meh :-\
:'(
Is the Blocks! Richard III worth $12.50?
My pickle goes back in the pickle jar. Nothing much to see here.

The demo seems to still be available here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/787937257/blocks-columbia-block-wargaming-on-your-pc-and-mac
I tried the demo when it came out but it didn't yank my wallet out of my pocket.
I'll go ahead and eat my words. In addition to the Clad in Iron series, I ended up grabbing:
- Invisible Inc.
- Pathologic 2
- Barotrauma
- Disgaea 5
- Men of War: Vietnam
- Rush for Berlin: Gold
In all, set me back about $80. Somehow Steam still manages to nab bucks from me despite my cynical grogging. :uglystupid2:
I bit. Picked up a few DLC's for Pathfinder: Kingmaker and Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3.
Am holding off on picking up Matrix/Slitherine titles until my coupon comes in, however. I have at least that much willpower still. :P
Damn....24 items on my wishlist are discounted!
I will give my best!
Everything on my wishlist seems to have gone on sale. I might buy the Bards Tale collection - hopefully on GoG
Ah I see the tide has turned.
Got Terminator: Resistance, finally. Maybe do some futuristic pew pew pew this weekend? O0
^I played through about 2/3 of it. It won't win any awards but if you are into the Terminator universe, you will probably enjoy it.

I figured for $22 bucks the developer deserved the funds for trying to stay true to the IP...that, more than anything, is what most people seem to rave about.
It's probably the best Terminator game available now. Sucks to say that, but true. One day there will be a truly great one.
And maybe a movie to go along with it? :-"
True. Since 1991 the films have been, er...less than stellar.
Indeed...they should have stopped after number 2 imho. But there are many movies that should have stopped at some point. The first Matrix was great...the rest...also Rocky should have stopped at number 3.
Took a punt on the Terminator game myself. Media reviews for it were terrible, but the user reviews are really strong. I'll give it a spin later today.
IIRC RPS said about the Terminator game that it was 'much better than any of us should have expected' or something similar.
Anguille I do like Rocky IV, I have to admit...'I MUST BREAK YOU'

Yeah, Rocky IV is probably the most popular one but it was wrong to kill Apollo Creed (my favorite movie boxer). And he wasn't the same guy he was in Rocky III (mature and reasonable) and all of the sudden he was childish, easy to beat, and totally unreasonable. It would have been ok if it had been Mr. T.
If I could just interject with some Steam-related stuff...
Completed my DLC collection for CO2. For once I think this'll be a Steam-sale purchase that I'll actually play.

First impression is really good for me. I was a bit surprised to start playing a Terminator shooter and find out it's really more an RPG. Pleasantly surprised. Good atmosphere too. Seems worth the sale price.
If you like it from the get go it will only get better! The early enemies are crappy but definitely get more bad ass as you progress.
Ugh, I was going to be strong, but then Steam offered me $5.
So, I bought IL2 Battle of Bodenplatte, P-38, P-40 planes, OOTP Baseball 2021, and Pathfinder Kingmaker. So weak.
Any of you guys have any thoughts on Deity Empires? I have had it on my wishlist forever.
So far I just got Labyrinth the GMT Board Game conversion and Tabletop simulator.
Still haven't bought anything.
Instead I've been cleaning my wishlist (down to a mere 279 items as of this post) :P

I really enjoy Deity Empires, have 30+ hours into it. Game has a lot of unit, spell, ability variety. The basic graphics might be off putting to some but doesn't bother me much, there are a few workshop mods to improve some stuff. I just get on better with this game, then lets say Age of Wonders. I really like the risk, reward of the dungeon crawling......the deeper you go the better the loot. I find it to be a very good 4X game and hopefully the Dev keeps adding to it and improving it.
Here's a Daz video series.
As to the Steam sale, not to excited about it this year. I was going to fill out my DLC but.....meh.....i'm not playing those games right now anyway. I had a few dollars left in my account so i did pick up Sword of the Stars: The Pit, and that left me with just under $2 so might look for a cheapo solitaire game or something.

Bought Deity Empires when it first came out. The design of the game is very good; however, the tactical AI was braindead. Consisted of simply rushing every unit straight at you, even if they were outnumbered. Maybe a more recent player can tell us if the AI was ever improved.
edit: too slow at writing response. What say you on tactical AI Budd?
Anyone playing IL2 Flying Circus? I've narrowed it down to that or Gears: Tactics.
Since Flying Circus is usually 80.00 and is now 40.00 it feels like a bargain to me, and two new 1918 campaigns were just released.
Hmmm....Global Mobilization on sale 66% off. I think I'm going to go ahead and pull the trigger on that.
No other real sale items I'm interested in.

Haven't played for a year but as i recall the AI used ranged units pretty well, but its still tries to overwhelm you especially in the dungeons, but the quarters are tight down there. I auto resolved a lot top side when i could but i can remember trying to hunt down AI units on the tac map, i remember because it was irritating hunting down a couple of units. don't think the AI is good at coordinating units but few AI's are good at that. I'd watch the Daz videos, those game types are in his wheel house so you can get a good read on the AI with the settings he uses. I really enjoy all the different magic/spell stuff, i'm not a fantasy guy but i enjoy shooting fireballs or lightening at things.

I play a lot of FC and I really like it - but I only play MP, so can't comment on the new campaigns. It's a "simmer's sim" in that the planes have the quirks and characteristics (roughly speaking) of their RL counterparts. This is a plus for those who like to "fly" the planes, but not so much for those who just want to play a WW1-aeroplane-themed game.
^Thanks. Are all the very technical aspects adjustable? I haven't really 'simmed' in 25 years and would love just a WW1-themed airplane game. There I said it.
Haven't we been over this before? You want Wings over Flanders Fields, Gus. Not the RoF franchise.

This does have a Groundhog Day vibe. And Gus, if you suck at WoFF, then (as Toonces said) FC/RoF is probably not for you. Obviously when I say "a simmer's sim" I'm guilty of a level of ass-hattery, but my point was to say that, though I think it's a fantastic game and you should absolutely rush to buy it, I understand that not everyone has the same definition of fantastic game as me.
But I want to be good at games like these! :/ I'm just...not
You make a fine tail gunner! Those cloud banks never stood a chance.
Finally got AC Odyssey. Man I had fun with that today.
^Love that game. Got a little burned out on it after about 90 hours but it's nothing a break won't fix.
Was in the mood for some bad RTS for $3 - $10.
Blitzkrieg 3 - bad
Sudden Strike 4 = bad
lol. Been wanting to try them for a while now and am sure glad I have Steel Division 1 and 2.
Feeling vindicated.
Did I mention I also got Imperator Rome and so far I don't mind it but am really disappointed with the lack of historical troops types. Everything seems to have been rationalised down to heavy or light. Is there a DLC that fixes this before the sales stop? Because I do like the game.

Don't think there is any DLC that does that but you might browse through the workshop and check the mods.
I've been hooked on Dominions 5 multiplayer lately, but I went ahead and picked up all the Field of Glory 2 DLCs at 50% off. I know I'll be getting back into to it soon enough, and am looking forward to trying out the different eras now.

OoohLAaaa
Toonces and the rest of you lot should be proud. I re-installed Rise of Flight today thinking I would possibly get the Ilya Marmomets DLC for it (big ass Russian bomber) because it's on sale for 6 dollah. When I fired it up I realized that I have never bought a DLC pack for it, so most of the campaign missions are off limits to me...to which I promptly said 'f this.'
So I went and fired up Wings Over Flanders Fields (Ultimate Edition) just now for a few minutes instead. This game is just huge, and intimidating. I need to futz with the parameters so I don't immediately plummet to earth. But at least I saved some cash and am now getting primed to try WoFF once again.
I was so enamored for AC Odyssey I got Black Flag as well.
Current haul..
Terminator Resistance
AC Odyssey Deluxe with AC III
AC IV Black Flag
Nexus the Jupiter Incident
Arma 3 Global Mobilization
Flashpoint Campaigns: Red Storm
Tabletop Simulator 4 pack (gifted to wife and some of my friends)

Less than $2. I heard great things so I'll give it a go one day...maybe. I'm at the stage of Steam buying where I'm looking at sub $5 and just zoning out and adding to cart.
The Valve Index $999 kit is somehow in my cart....
::) No checkout yet.
Another potential diamond in the rough I found is Cuban Missile Crisis for $.74. Just the old Blitzkrieg RTS engine taken to a hypothetical 1962 Cold War Gone Hot. This and the other more niche titles on this engine, Stalingrad and World War I, seem to be fairly well reviewed, so I figured why not.

SirAndrew AssCreed Black Flag is absolutely awesome. Wait until you begin shelling a Spanish island fort...some of the most exciting gaming I've had in the last 5 years at least. I can confidently say you will love it, even if you're not into the whole Caribbean pirate thing.

Good impressions on the opening, but not as optimized for PC as Odyssey which is smooth as silk with all setting maxed and 60fps set as the limit. I had a lot of stuttering and had to use a hack to get it into 21:9. I'll fiddle with the settings, I know it was meant for console and probably isn't even slightly using my I9's cores.
And I am into the Pirate stuff. Sid Meier's Pirates was one of my first loves.
Fiddling with the graphics will be worth it. It's all there except the dancing.

Oof, yeah. I hardly spent half an hour with it before removing it from my drive. In the future, I'll go with my gut instinct and save myself the $.75 :hide:
I have bought several Pinball FX3 table packs as well as Battle Brothes and IS: Genesis.
Bought Arma 3 Global Mobilization last week.
That's probably all for me for this sale.
I've got the base version of Steel Division 2 and Gears Tactics waiting in my cart.
I couldn't resist Vic's games at that price: Decisive Campaigns Blitzkrieg, Case Blue and Barbarossa, and threw in Mare Nostrum for good measure.
Got Unity of Command II, Armoured Commander II, Ostalgie: The Berlin Wall and Battletech all for 30 Euro. Should keep me busy for a while.
I got one more after a reading an article about the best/most fun 4x / city builders; Anno 2205 . I didn't even know there was another Anno game in beteeen 2070 and 1800. Lol! Don't know what happened there, but at least now I've got it for a small price of admission. \m/
So far, i only got Northgard - Himminbrjotir, Clan of the Ox - DLC as i started playing the game....about 2.5 dollars....
I am remaining strong and determined. No more new games until I finish some of the new ones I already got. Maybe. actually, it's about 50/50. But I am determined. :pullhair:

Dabbling with this again on Sunday. Once again compelled to sing its praises. It has such great atmosphere and the combination of naval battles, boarding and landing operations/ground battles really hits a rare sweet spot. The campaign, although still in fairly early stages, is oozing with atmosphere style.
I encourage all with an interest in this time period and subject matter to buy this now to support the developer. Its a superb effort all around.

Well I bought Gears: Tactics but it won't run on my machine because I don't have Windows 10! Oh well, refunded. Guess I am getting out of this sale with just some Sniper Elite 4 DLC for about 7 dollah :/ and that's it.
Don't feel too bad about Gears Tactics Gus. That's the main reason why I ultimately decided to pass on that game.
I haven't bought anything yet, but I've got Global Mobilization for ARMA3 in my cart.
Thanks W8. Guess I start the countdown now for my new gaming rig. It's been about 5 years.
I grabbed Satisfactory yesterday. Been having fun with that so far.
Also I just saw FOG empires on sale on the Matrix site so I might make the plunge there.

I'm officially done with the sale with only minutes remaining. After reviewing my wishlist and probably spending a bit of every day of the sale poking around, I only ended up with one purchase using the $5 discount.
Lock 'n Load Tactical Digital
Battle of Empires: 1914-1918 - Ottoman Empire
Clad in Iron: Sakhalin 1904
Clad In Iron: Carolines 1885
Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition
Glass Masquerade 2: Illusions

I'm going to wait till the end of the year to pull the trigger on one of them though. If I do it'll be via Amazon, I've got a significant amount of credit built up there from unspent holiday money. I've been breaking $100k in sales for three months going now so I'm going to treat myself very nicely for Christmas.
But, as to things I got last second. All the Assassins Creed Games that were remaining, The rest of the Wargame series, all the remaining Battletech DLC, a few odds and ends of Arma 3 DLC I was missing, all the Kingdom Come Deliverance DLC, a bunch of stuff for Inquisitor Martyr, Mechanicus....I think that was it. It was sort of hazy.
Wow, you win!
Now don't get silly. Winning in this case is not quite winning in the usual sense.

Oh, I know. I win the game of spending too much on the sales and building up a library of stuff that will have less than 30 minutes of play time.
I also win at being a boastful git.
:2funny:
I was hoping to pick up a few things during this years summer sale, especially with all the added stress due to the state of things right now out in the world, but I just could not pull the trigger on anything. Most of the games that I really want to get haven't been released yet, such as Sea Power, and most of the games on my wishlist are either situational, or I put them on there thinking they could be interesting. Apparently not interesting enough, because despite going through my wishlist a number of times I never ended up getting any of it. Oh well, I guess there is always next year.
Hope everyone else had more luck than me this year and are enjoying their new purchases!

Exactly the same here. Things often sit on my wishlist through several sales - and then I buy something random instead.

I had the same experience with my Steam wishlist and purchased nothing. So I put my limited gaming dollars into the Tiller sale and am having a blast getting deep into his Napoleonic, ACW and Panzer Battles games.

"It was all sort of hazy."
Sir Andrew - were you drunk Steam Sale buying again? :)
I "lost" since I bought nothing but cardboard this month.
Cardboard buying was expensive:
Labyrinth: The War on Terror (new)
Axis Empires: Dai Senso (new - birthday present)
Fury in the West - used
Viva Espana - used (not arrived yet)
and Mr. Toonces was kind to give me his copy of Paths of Glory.

More like drunk ON Steam Sale buying!
I passed on a lot this sale.
I guess I don't want to increase the pile.
Only thing I bought on Steam during the Summer sale wasn't on sale. I might be doing it wrong.
^ Ummmm....yeah.
I only bought Global Mobilization for ARMA 3, and for that matter, I haven't even installed it yet.
I've got tons of stuff on my wishlist that were on sale, but...you know...I just don't really need any more games right now.
I did buy two new watches, though. ::)
8)
Sorry, I couldn't resist.
(It's the same watch Matt Hooper wears in Jaws)
I'm such a nerd. :idiot2:

I've never heard of Alsta but I love the cushion case! But 40mm is too small for my old eyes. I try to stick to 44mm if I can.
Yeah, this is my first cushion case watch. The watch is really small, 39mm! It's quite the adjustment from my bigger divers.
But...I couldn't resist. I mean c'mon, it's Jaws! And Hooper!
I just got it last night and sized the bracelet and put it on today and I couldn't be happier. It was pricey, but I'm totally stoked on this watch.
Anyway, back to the Steam sale...
Alsta was a generic brand back in the 70's that made sports watches. The Alsta that Hooper wears was more or less in keeping with the times; it was a rugged diver that someone like him would wear (although, honestly, Hooper in Jaws is supposed to be wealthy so he'd probably wear a Rolex Sub, but anyway).
Alsta went out of business with the quartz crisis in the 80's. Then the actor who plays The Bruce in Braveheart bought the company a couple of years ago and they made the Hooper watch. The first version didn't look much like the Jaws Hooper. But then last year they made a faithful 1:1 recreation albeit slightly bigger at 39mm vice the original's 36mm. It's a limited, numbered edition (316 of 1975, the year the movie came out), and it has the Jaws shark on the caseback and the bracelet clasp. Too cool. Overpriced for what it is, but I don't care I had to have it.
I've got quite the thread going on a watch forum, where I hang out when I'm not here... NERD! :-[

Are you on WUS?
I recently picked up a Seiko SRPE07 King Turtle and love it. About time they went with sapphire and blue lume!
Ha, my dad might be lurking that very watch forum you're posting on :P
Very cool, Toonces!
Heh. Yes, I'm Toonces on WUS. 8)
Funny, and totally not about this thread subject (but that's cool, this is Grogheads after all), I had a friend that I modded Falcon4 with on the Freefalcon team for years. Then the team broke up and I hadn't heard from him in years.
So don't you know, I'm on this watch forum, and only because he was the last post in that particular subject forum (A. Lange), I saw his username. It's unique, like Toonces, so I sent him a PM: Of all the websites in all the world, you had to choose this one...
Crazy, small world we live in sometimes.
To boast more. One of my clients says that if his book does well enough my bonus will be a Franck Muller watch.
^ Whoa. :notworthy:

I'll sell the danged thing. That watch would cost more than my car.
I think I know a buyer.
