I didn't realize it was so close to release either...

I've had trouble getting into CK2 but I love the map and the aesthetic -- this on the surface looks like ck2 set at the turn of the 19th century.  (And not much trace of the AGEOD original left -- you can kind of start to understand why they parted company with Paradox.)

Anyway, this will probably make it onto my 'must purchase' list soon...

I'm diggin the extra military-related features and supply focus.  The warfare side of the Clausewitz games have definitely been a weak spot, so hopefully they can keep expanding that side of things.

I can tell the AGEOD guys had something to do with such features getting into the game, as I've never had the impression that the Pdox team(s) care to expand the military and logistical side of their games too much.  I just hope it was carried through well enough after they left the development of Eagles because if it's in decent working order, I'll be all over it.  ???

What I found interesting is it seems to have a price of only $19.99......seems pretty low for an initial release of a paradox game.....hope that doesn't translate into either lack of content or quality.  Unless they plan to unleash a ton of DLC to make up the difference:)

Yeah, I hope the dev team switch in the middle of it didn't cripple the end result or persuade them to rush the final bit to release.

But Sengoku was only $20, too.  And that one wasn't very buggy at release.  It wasn't as deep as most either, however.  I guess we'll have to wait and ask the first ones to dive in.  I'm only expecting an EU3 set in the Napoleonic era with a few extra military features so I'd think that a chunk of the system was already there before work started.

According to the Rock, Paper, Shotgun article, you can play this fairly quickly (even finish a game in one or two sittings of several hours each). This is to encourage multiplayer, which is supposed to be fantastic (according to the RPS preview). I'm pretty excited, this is primarily warfare and in a fund time period!

Don't get me wrong, I am looking forward to it as well, just was a little cautious when I saw the initial price tag.  I am hoping the single player experience is still good since I really don't play multi-player myself.  Looks like it only has a single starting period as well, so I can only imagine future DLC/expansions changing that:)  But I am OK with the DLC approach, especially when the base game is cheap.  Allows me to give the game a chance at a decent price and then I can decide for myself if I want to continue and invest.

I wonder if it'll be an easy fix for extending the end date (as in EU3) or if there is some hard-coding preventing it (as in EU Rome)?

People have been clamoring for a Napoleonic era game to cover the hole between Pdox's EU3 and Victoria 2 games.  But it sounds like this one may not be terribly long, so I hope the modders can add a little extra length to it (and the girth is fine?!).

Yeah - liking the look of this ... maybe it was AGEOD's influence before they departed that lead to the added military and supply stuff ?
Not worried about the price much ... as someone else said Sengoku was the same price and Pride of Nations came out the same when AGEOD were part of paradox.

According to this thread someone says you can play past the end date...but not sure if any limitations and such.

Kind of an interesting post from Johan at paradox concerning their past partnership with ageod....kind of calls them out and in a way says their game engine was not good enough.  Says they were way behind schedule and their last games werent profitable.  This is at post 23.  If this was truly the case, you would have thought paradox would have known about the engine and profitability before bringing them on in the first place.

Agreed...not sure why he felt saying that stuff now was useful in anyway.  Seemed like a reasonable breakup at the time, they should have just left it at that versus stirring it up now.

I hate to say it but it does look very close to a latter stages game of EU3 with the optional sprites? Is it going to be sufficiently different to be a truly "Napoleonic" game, or is it really an EU3 "Lite"?

It looks like EU3 Lite.  With most of the focus on pushing the large amounts of armies around the big map.  At least there was a primitive character system in Sengoku - this one just seems to be about herding armies around in real-time, and the military side is the weakest facet of the Clausewitz games.  I don't have many expectations, but I pre-ordered the damn thing anyway so maybe I'll be surprised.
Title: Re: March of the Eagles (Preview)
Post by: son_of_montfort on February 14, 2013, 01:18:22 AM
The army management is closer to AGEOD style than the very simple EU3 army management. I think there are significant tech differences as well. RPS found it to be fairly solid and that it rose above being simply EU3 lite (although the preview was highly multiplayer centered).

Sorry, I meant EU4 Lite (as Sengoku was CK2 lite).

I did pre-order it just because they look to have improved army building, at the least, and I'm kinda curious as to how that turned out.  I still don't have big expectations, though, especially since the original dev team left and we can assume others took over mid-stream.  At the price point they're selling it - I don't expect a lot of updates or add-ons either since they'll probably be focused on it's big brother, EU4.

What's odd to me is that this game was always supposed to use the Clausewitz engine that paradox owns. AGEOD was using that engine to design this game. AGEOD was never intending to use their AGE engine for this napoleon game so I am not sure what Johan was talking about.

Yeah.  Hopefully once Steam is done taking half the day to put it up, they don't screw up the first version and make us wait another day before it's fixed, as I've seen them do in the past.  Sorry, but I don't always have a lot of faith when it comes to the Steam crew and the non-blockbuster titles.  They put the B-team on the job, occasionally. After perusing the manual a bit, I've been getting a bit stoked to see how it's turned out.  Still don't wanna get my expectations too high, so I'm attempting to disbelieve that everything will go off without a hitch. :P

Maybe I'll go fire up a new CK2 campaign in the meantime.

Tactical Orders - You can set tactical orders to your flanks, however the commander will choose the one best for the situation, but will try to favor the one you preset.

You have 4 Flanks organized in an Army:  Left :: Center :: Right  :: Reserve

- Regular Strategy
- Delay
- Counter - Punch
- Deliberate Assault
- Hold
- Entrenched Defense
- Feint
- Refuse
- Up the Guard

The joke continues.....they had problems with the first download, where people were getting missing executable errors, and the download was under 200mb.  I got the same issue.  In order to correct, you have to delete everything again and retry downloading....I am in the process of that now.  This file is something like 579MB.  Hope this one is right:)

I had to exit Steam and start it up again; then another couple hundred meg downloaded.  Once that finished Directx and .NET installed (why must these 2 be always be re-installed for each new game?).  Game started up and seemed to be running OK.  Exited out and tried to get back in...and .NET is installing again.  >:(   A rough launch for this game...

Interesting Operational Orders you can give to your Armies:

- March at the sound of the Gun
- Retreat into Fortress
- Scorched Earth
- Force Marching
- Evade / Avoid Battles
- Detach Supply Guard

I'm glad to see they retained some of the combat mechanics of the original AGEOD Nap's Campaigns --this looks to be more detailed combat than the typical Paradox game.  Very close to getting out the wallet for this -- assuming these snafus get fixed on steam --

The .net reinstall is a pretty common occurance on Steam games.  I don't know why that is the case but it is.

There is some file labelled "Install" or some such, in the game's Steam install location, that you have to delete in order to get it from repeatedly installing the extra junk every time you start the game.  I've had to do it twice in the past.  After you delete it - it starts right up ever afterward.

As for MOTE, my first impressions:

1) Great graphics, music, the general sound is decent (I have a thing about new interface 'click' sounds that aren't too shrill or annoying and this one is good).  The map art looks even better than CK2.  The AGE-style art for the generals really sticks out and the interface looks nice too.

2) Some unfinished stuff.  The whole Message Settings system doesn't work.  There's nothing popping up in the log window, no pop-up windows at all, and you can't set any events to Auto-Pause for you.  This isn't good, because it's something I tweak quite a bit so I don't have to jockey the Pause key so damn much.  >:(  I've also ran into a minor bug or two, such as not being able to issue the "Load onto Navy" command to one of my armies when there are two navies in that port;  simple solution being to merge them and then just toss all my separate armies into the same single navy (and, yes, I had plenty extra transport space on the big one - it evidentally kept trying to use the smaller navy there.)  Hopefully the other issues I haven't seen yet aren't bad.  Oh, and the odd sound or two missing, as mentioned above.

3) This could potentially be micro-management clickfest hell if you plan on playing multiplayer on anything besides the slowest creeping speed.  The amount of units and workload making build orders, forming up armies, issuing wing orders, and other army clickery could easily become a speed test.  I hope the initial game start organization levels that out enough to be less of a worry later on in a game.  I can see how the faster/shorter play would make multiplayer a more viable option compared to other Clausewitz games, but I foresee a bunch of things going down faster than you can get your "To Do" list done, at points.

4) I'm generally liking the military additions.  Again, I can catch glimpses of the AGEOD team's concepts here & there although much of the engine is still pure Clausewitz.  My only complaint (thus far) is the aforementioned workload that will take some getting used to.

I just hope my singleplayer runs don't end when it feels like I'm just getting started.   From the sound of things, Pdox' sale of MOTE was large enough that they'll consider DLC/expansions so perhaps we'll see a timeline extension (I'd prefer back into the 18th century, myself).

I really liked the original AGEOD Napoleon title, but this looks to be a much high level of abstraction and scale.  For anyone that's played so far, does this feel more like CK2 or Vicky 2, or do you get a sense you could actually fight a recognizable campaign like Ulm or Jena?

I like the Clauswitz engine for games like CK2, but I do like my Napoleonics a bit more operational level...

Willpower did not hold out long... had to buy it...

First impressions are very positive.

Panzerde -- the feel is definitely of a Paradox title, not AGEOD.  Visually the only thing they kept from Napoleon's Campaigns seems to be the portraits of the generals, and perhaps a bit of the UI aesthetic. (Curiously, no mention whatsoever of the AGEOD team in the Credits... unless I'm missing something...)

There are some regrettable things that have gotten sacrificed -- for me, the biggest being the original's emphasis on OOB and detailed operational aspects.  The level of detail of Corps, Divisions, etc. is gone.  It's been replaced by a more generic organization around Army Commanders-in-Chief and subordinate Flank commanders.  So yeah that's a bit disappointing, albeit not surprising.

That said, the military organizational aspects are definitely more nuanced than CK2 or Vicky2. There is a framework for chain of command, operational organization, etc.  It's just nowhere near the level of detail you get with AGEOD.

Just a couple of observations:

This is the Napoleonic area, so first and foremost this is a time of war.

The military in MoE is in between CK2 and an AGEOD game (closer to HOI).  You have control of the composition of Armies and there are various unit types you can train place within them.  The composition of the army is up to you.  You can assign leaders to each of the flank compositions and the army as an whole.  They have their own ratings and when lead you army into battle, they will gain certain traits.  The one thing I do not like is that your leaders cannot be KIA or WIA.

The diplomatic options are on par with EU3, however no casus belli is needed to declare war.

Economy model gets the job done, nothing deep, but something you have to watch.

Attrition can be a killer......  when you have large armies, pay attention to the several factors, one being the support limit in a province(s), weather etc...

The UI is very clean and easy to navigate for information.  There are touches of AGEOD here and there, the day and night cycle in the time menu.  The leader portraits are done well.

I like the feel of the game, seems to be on the lighter side but in this case I think it lends it self very well. It is not trying to be all things.  So far have not encountered any show stopping bugs.

Just an update:  my message settings are working now.  Problem must've been between the keyboard and the chair.  :P

PanzersEast's mention of the military side of things being somewhat closer to HOI3's level of unit detail is a good comparison.  I'm enjoying the extra control over the makeup and each wing's set tactic.  I hope they use or expand on this system for EU4.

The most difficult part of MotE is that there are soooo many provinces.  It's difficult to move your view about, trying to keep up with managing your armies while at war, since there are so many to take care of in such a large space.  I've started games for both Austria and Russia - they're both a bit of a pain to keep up with when things get hot.  I've found that it's easier to just concentrate on moving to the provinces that contain cities, as the rest of them just instantly flip when you enter, so it's all about fighting over the cities.

The Supply/Support Limit system is a good thing because it can be brutal against even moderately-sized forces.  I'm not sure if the Baggage Train unit helps with that or if it is just for the +10% attack bonus that it lends to combat units in the same army (this is very AGE-like & one of the things that reminds me of their earlier influence).  So it's best to rush the enemy's concentrated forces with your own large ones, and get the big fight(s) over with ASAP before your armies start melting away in enemy territory.  Then you can split them up and spread out while on the move through the city-less provinces.  Since you capture those so quickly, their support limit will increase immediately but they're still rather thin compared to city-provinces (which you have to siege the classic Clausewitz way).  One issue with the supply/support limit is that the normal Clausewitz indicators, for telling you whether your currently selected army will suffer attrition in another province you point the cursor at, doesn't utilize all the factors.  So while the little move arrow is colored green (meaning no attrition if you move to that province) and the support requirement vs limit tooltip with the specific numbers may say that your army is within limits, it sometimes isn't.  I suspect the extra penalties for adverse terrain isn't being factored into the equation for the tooltip & pointer because I'll still have some attrition running sometimes, on arrival. :-[

Despite not knowing some little details such as everything the Baggage Trains do, for example, and some minor oddities like battle sounds missing & support numbers/indicators being incorrect, I'm having fun with the game.

Might be worth mentioning -- on the nation management side, MotE gameplay will feel very familiar to anyone who knows Vicky 2.  Province improvement, diplomacy, supply are all similar -- closer to Vicky than HOI in this respect.  In general actually, it seems closer to Vicky than HOI to me.

Although one thing I don't get -- in MOTE, you can recruit units directly from provinces a la Vicky -- but unlike Vicky, the province population capacities seem to have no bearing on how many units you can recruit from that province...?  Seems to remove a Vicky logistical element that I found interesting.

In a nutshell, MotE seems to take the CK2 map, a stripped down (dumbed down?) version of Vicky2 nation management, and adds a deeper dimension of military / combat than either of those games.

I expect to see a lot of mods, this game is highly mod-able.

On the note of provinces..... it is true there are a lot of provinces, however if there is not a major city or fort you will take ownership of the province simply by occupying it (there is no siege).  So as you make your way to a targeted province, you will take control of the other provinces as you pass through.

So far I actually like the balance of the game.  This is a wargame and not a grand strategy game....

This should be a very good Multiplayer experience and I hope to get one going soon.... potential for some interesting situations.....

This has been an issue in CK2 as well....  I would imagine this will get fixed, however it is annoying.  There are already several mods going up and a Death and Taxes mod for MoTE.

Also another small mod that (1792 Mod):

* 9 New buildings - keep revolts down with the Courthouse building chain, or raise taxes with a bank.

* About 12 new countries (atm), including a load of new Italian and HRE states.

* Ideas now mostly gained from passive research; build Universities and develop your towns to improve idea point rate.

* Rebalanced government bonuses

* Rebalanced unit costs. Up. A lot.

* All major powers now start out with all their National Ideas, so that they're a bit more customized (and since 90% of the national ideas were stuff that happened in the 18th century).

* Extended timeline from 1792-1820

The Pdox games have always had the ping pong effect.  I think it has improved, but it's still there and it doesn't look like they'll ever put in a hard solution for dissolving a repeatedly defeated and demoralized army no matter how many times it's whittled down to almost nothing.

One behavior regarding retreating armies feels a bit different to me in MotE.  I've defeated a few armies and they tend to automatically switch to the 'Avoid Combat' command when they're running away with no morale left.  Because, unlike most previous games, I can't always bring such a demoralized force to combat when I command my victorious army to follow them.  I consider the Evade army order to be a good improvement as it's helped model things that couldn't be done before, such as harassing an enemy army to slow them down, with a cavalry unit set to 'Evade' making an enemy army briefly stop for an engagement test for example, or sending a small scouting force ahead.  I think it tries to use that command as default for a defeated army so that it has a better chance of fleeing over a distance.  I'm not quite sure yet if it has some hang-ups but it's a needed improvement.  The army orders, ovarall, are a nice addition and lends a bit more strategy other than moving your big megastack into an enemy megastack and then just chasing the loser through a bunch of provinces while it ping pongs.

The slow reinforcement rate is what really limits a nation's armies in the fight after the big battles take their toll, as it lengthens how quickly a defeated army can come back from big losses compared to previous games.  Even with full supply, it seems like replacements are pretty slow to refill and that's a nice change.  I don't think any of my armies in my current Russo-Swedish war has ever fully regained their peacetime full-strength numbers of soldiers, even after months-long R&R in a well-supplied location.  Much better military modelling on points like this.

I had eyed COG for years, but the mix of a fixed low-resolution, a UI rumored to be a bit annoying, and a premium $50 price tag for the digital edition didn't entice me.  I've recently read some sadness about the game being left with some reportedly annoying issues but the sales were never enough to warrant more updates (says a Dev) so even the re-release with more features didn't sound like it did too well or hit it's full potential.  :-[  Maybe someday they'll mark it down enough to make me jump. *shrug*

It's supposedly been minimized in CK2 but I'm sure it's still there.  Just not as bad as in the past.

And one of the Pdox mods did mention that a defeated and demoralized army in MOTE tries to evade combat while it moves a distance away to a "rally point".  I had wondered why my armies were having problems initiating combat when I was following a defeated stack - that just confirmed.  So it doesn't seem like those little beaten up armies are really meant to be completely annihilated, at least in MOTE.  The problem is that the AI doesn't actually rest & refit such beaten up armies when they reach the distant "rally" city location - they turn around and come charging right back at your stack without taking on replacements for awhile.  If they could fix the latter AI problem (at least in MOTE's case) I'd be happy since Manpower and replacement rates are pretty damn slow.

One very unhistorical part of my first game is that Great Britain has landed 120K+ on Italian and German shores and I have only made it to May 1806.

I have been able to destroy all their armies but in no way should it be possible for them to field so many troops.

I am still having the ping-pong effect in fighting the British armies.

Their armies are also at times 1000-500 men and are still wandering about from province to province.

Now, going by the devs posting this should not be happening. But maybe it is because they are not near any of their own provinces having been all from naval landings. It is possible when I fight an adjacent country their armies might act differently.

I'd be interested in hearing what countries y'all have been playing, and what strategies you've been employing.

I've had several false starts now as Prussia, Russia, Britain... mostly starting a GC, tinkering with army arrangements, assigning generals, building stuff.  The 'dominance' keypoints are helpful, but to be honest, I don't have much sense of how to prepare for a campaign -- what to build, how much, and how to arrange your armies optimally.  I've been assuming you should concentrate force in the center flanks, but have no idea if that's really effective.

(Incidentally, can anyone explain exactly what the 'supply wagon' unit does? I know in original NC you could build depots with them... in MotE, it's not so clear.  Put them in the rear flank of your army, and they, what, cut down on attrition? carry supply?)

a couple of items on Attrition and Supply.... really one I believe that happens and the other that gives a bonus.

Attrition:
Attrition effects can be further reduced by adopting the Expert Foraging idea, or it can be increased by having armies use the Scorched Earth operational order. The Forced March operational order increases attrition considerably when it is issued to an army stack.

Supply:
I believe this helps increase you supply limit on provinces that you exceed, but will have to test.

Supply trains provide a certain amount of logistical support to the formation they are currently assigned to. If there are enough supply trains assigned to that army they receive a bonus to attack in any combat they take part in.

Supply trains increase the amount of supplies your army has, and I believe being in supply dictates your rate of reinforcement (replacement of casualties) along with limiting the maximum attrition rate at any one time (if you are supplied for that day).  For some detailed numbers, open your army info screen and hover the mouse cursor over a green bar underneath the Attrition rate number (hopefully 0.0!) and a tooltip will pop up telling you your supply numbers situation and if/where the supply line runs to.

One thing that's been bugging me and I've seen no explanation for:

A LOT of units seem to have completely redundant stats. Playing as Prussia, for ex, among your cavalry, Hussars, Uhlans, and Freikorps appear to have exactly the same stats.  Same price, same build-time, all combat numbers , everything.  Same holds true for many units: Line Infantry and Second Line infantry: exactly same numbers. 'Foot' Artillery, 'Guard' artillery, 'regular Arty, again, all the same thing -- and the list goes on.

What gives?  Surely these cant all be 'flavor' units?

Playing as Prussia, for ex, among your cavalry, Hussars, Uhlans, and Freikorps appear to have exactly the same stats.  Same price, same build-time, all combat numbers , everything.  Same holds true for many units: Line Infantry and Second Line infantry: exactly same numbers. 'Foot' Artillery, 'Guard' artillery, 'regular Arty, again, all the same thing -- and the list goes on.

What gives?  Surely these cant all be 'flavor' units?

I'm thinking that, yes indeed, they are flavor.  I'm guessing there may have been other plans for more stuff back when the AGE team was working on it, and the artwork was already done so the Pdox guys probably just put them in there in case modders did something with them.  Since they obviously had the assets done, I would've rather they included them for just such modding purposes rather than not.

I'd be interested in hearing what countries y'all have been playing, and what strategies you've been employing.

I've been playing as Russia lately.

I try to put the highest Maneuver rated generals in charge of armies, as I believe that gives a higher bonus to Evade and March to the Sound of the Guns, along with some kind of assistance with retreats.  Having the highest combat ratings helps too, as the one for the army commander is given to all flanks.

I tend to leave a national reserve of a few armies arrayed somewhat close to the center of the nation so when war breaks out with someone, I can move most or all of them to that front.  Unless it's another equally-sized opponent, I still leave a few armies on other borders with neighbors who don't like me too much; the AI in these Clausewitz games probably factors in how far away your armies are from the mutual border, when pondering a DOW on you so I don't want to encourage an attack on my backside any more than needed.

If you're hurting for generals in your armies that will be seeing action, just strip them from those guarding borders or even ones that have taken losses and need to sit awhile and reinforce.  I highly recommend appointing most or all of your flanks, in your active armies, so that you can mix & match unit types on each flank that will enable you to set special tactics.  I tend to leave mostly a cavalry unit or two in the reserve along with an infantry or two if the army's big enough.  I had tried placing horse artillery in the reserve but I realized that artillery's most effective use is in the initial stage of the battle and that's where it may not even be committed if it's in the reserve.  So I don't put artillery back there, as a rule, unless I just can't spare any other type.  If it's a smaller army with a large amount of cavalry, I try to put 1 or 2 cav on the L or R Flank and set it to that screen tactic in the hopes that I'll get the Cavalry Screen event and I can move the infantry & arty over to the center or opposite wing to use an Assault/Up The Guard for a more heavy engagement there.  If you have some Light Infantry, the Delay tactic is a good substitute for the Screen, too.  There's a Counter (?) attack tactic that requires a certain amount of cavalry on the flank and I tend to use that one with regular infantry and numerous cavalry for a more offensive purpose.  There's a number of different tactic combinations to allow you to take a defensive posture on some flank(s) and an offensive one in others but you gotta have a general in each that use one and you generally need a certain percentage of unit types (mostly cavalry and/or light infantry but arty and guards units for others). It's always good to have a decent mix of unit types in your armies so you have the flexibility to set some tactics like this (the bonuses are quite nice).

There's not much value in building some of the structures.  I generally only drop a Depot on occasion - some place near the border where I plan on building military units.  A port upgrade might be worth consideration if you're rolling in ducats but I don't think ship building is a high priority for most nations, and the extra income from it would probably be negligible.

Suicide Strategy for me..... I am playing as Prussia and have joined the French Coalition and am sandwiched between Russia and Austria.  The Brits are hammering Denmark and I have had a few small engagements with them.  Austria and I have skirmished at our borders, however no large scale battles have taken place.  Russia just made peace and maybe looking to attack me.

I have not gotten a feel for how large my military should be etc.... Austria is fielding an Army size of 297K, Russia 394K, and I am about 225K.  I am also not sure of the best size or composition and at this point learning them in some major battles will cost me, but hey I'll have fun and have made it interesting!

Great tips.  I've been doing exactly what you describe in terms of putting horse arty in reserve, thinking they could be rushed to front where needed. But i think you're probably right that arty should be deployed at start of battle for the 'bombard' phase.

Kind of sucks, in my opinion, that all these redundant units are in there with the expectation that 'the modders will take care of it.'  Not sure what other explanation there could be. But would it really have killed the dev's -- or unbalanced the game -- to have tweaked some stats in a logical way so as to give you at least some incentive to care whether you build "Hussars" as opposed to "Uhlans" as opposed to "Freikorps Kavallerie"??

There's a certain under-baked quality to MotE that is disappointing.  I'm all for a more 'streamlined' experience and the idea that you can finish a whole campaign with a couple of play sessions.  But right now my overall impression is this game may be too shallow to hold my interest for long.

I have no doubt that modders will seize this thing and run with it and soon produce some outstanding mods.  And to their credit, I'm sure Pdox will continue to patch and support it.  So for now, maybe it's 'play in order to learn the mechanics' and expect a more satisfying game months down the road.

I like the game, however it does feel like a frame work with other components to be added later.... either by mods or by a official add-on.  Either way, I believe in the end it will grow into an excellent game.  Already a lot of activity in the mod section.

How much of a challenge are you guys finding it overall?  The corollary to its being "light" seems to be that it's also rather easy.

Yeah.  If there is plenty of Modder activity, then it can only get better.

That's where Sengoku suffered - there were almost no big mods for it.  IIRC, one guy had did some work with different campaign dates, and filling out the historical figures, but that was about it.  Good to see more activity with this one.

Is there a way to play the game without having to log in to Steam each time you load it?  Just learning the game.  Looks like it will be fun.  How come everyone seems to be playing a power other than France? (the obvious choice for me)

You don't have to log into Steam, you can make a shortcut from the exe and put it on your desktop and launch it from there.. Just go to your MoE folder

C:\Steam\steamapps\common\March of the Eagles

Your drive mapping might be slightly differnt

right click on MotE.exe and drag it to your desktop and choose Created Shortcut

Also.. until it's patched.. you'll have to copy the install folder to another location and run it from there if you use any of the mods currently out for it, and copy them directly over the files.

The Mod enabling software, that's built into the game, is bugged right now.  FYI.  CYA.  U-NO.

Speaking of mods, it's encouraging to see a slew of them looking to expand the gameplay.  I've seen a couple-three that I'd like to check out, given time to simmer.
