Or at least until Tuesday morning ;) There will definitely be some Warlock and Civ IV MP going on this weekend. My solo Warlock game has me putting two AI opponents out already with one of the underworlds completely under control. Now it is expand, expand, expand! I will also devote some time to Victoria II. Alas, the treasury does not hold enough ducats to purchase the expansions and play it proper like, but, I will learn with what I have.
I am one of the unfortunate ones who is working most of the holiday weekend. :-\ But never fear there will be some gaming even if I have to stay up and forfeit sleep. I plan on some Fallen Enchantress: Legendary Heroes, Far Cry 3 and maybe some League of Legends.
I played mow the lawn last night, but I need to finish up weed wack the sidewalks and along the house today followed this evening by move the sprinkler around the lawn. Or I may just play something like Fallen Enchantress or something or other maybe a wargame.
Fianlly a break bewtween classes so I'm going to play some Commander: The Great War.
Civ V as the Prussians against the Ottoman Turks (modded), maybe some Van Helsing and continue going through the Victoria II Heart of Darkness tutorials. Went through a few last night and really like what I have seen so far. Can't wait to pick a faction.

Distant World: Shadows. Incredible immersion when starting as a pre-warp civ....which is also great for learning the mechanics if you are new to the game because you are dealing with only your starting solar system.

Certainly not a superhero who will single handedly dominate the map. You have to form up armies to win battles and conquer your enemies.
After checking off a few items from the honey-do list and seeing the wife off to Tennessee for a couple days, I'll be checking out:

Well I certainly won't play all of these this weekend -- in fact, knowing me, I won't get to even half of them -- but here's what's on my plate:
Topping my list (and just about everyone else's, it seems) are Distant Worlds: Shadows and Fallen Enchantress: Legendary Heroes. Would also like to play some Shogun 2, Klingon Academy, Imperialism 2, and Birth of the Federation (am beta-testing the new Ultimate V mod), but as always, time will be a limiting factor.
I believe I am finally going to break out Shogun 2. I've owned it since it was released and still haven't played it.
Of course, I haven't played Napoleon Total War (nor Empire Total War for that matter) but who's counting?
I'm also installing Rising Sun, so hopefully that will also see some play.

Is there anything more annoying than clicking on a game on Steam to play only to be told that it has to update to a more efficient version and will be downloading for the next 3 hours?

Yeah that sucks. I got lucky tonight though and dl'ing FE: LH did not take more than an hour. ;D
Loading the game for the first time took me about 20 minutes though whilst it configured whatever it had to configure.

Civ 5. I'm getting pumped (a little too early) for Brave New World. Might pick up Shadows.
You know what I really need? A good ole fashioned hex and counter wargame.
For as much as I talk about wargaming, when you get right down to it I just don't have too many turn-based, hex and counter games.
I have the HPS Civil War series, and I think I have the old Tiller Civil War and Napoleonic games. And of course I also have War in the Pacific. What I think I might like is something along the lines of the HPS Squad Battles-type games. Something with relatively low unit density, not a terrible brain burn, and scenarios that can be finished in an evening.
I'm sitting here looking at my wargame collection, and I'll be darned if I can find a good game to burn 2 or 3 hours on and have a full and complete gaming experience.

A few months ago, I had Shogun 2 do that .. foogeen twice in the same week! Then it got hung up the second time and wouldn't continue. So I just deleted the whole install and re-downloaded the monster all over again.
What a damn mess.
Continuing on with my install saga, I tried to boot up Over Flanders Fields today and it is somehow porked. So now I'm reinstalling that as well.
What a friggin' pain. No kidding, I am about to shut off the computer and break out a boardgame. >:(

So far this weekend, it's been Victoria II on Friday night. Saturday was solo Warlock and Civ IV MP. It'll come to me.

I spent the morning playing Far Cry 3. Glad I finally worked through the introduction and have gotten into the free roam part of the game. It's actually quite fun. I'm working on some hunting right now to build up my pack slots. And I want to get the bow for some long range silent killing of the bad guys and wild game.

I managed to get through most of a tutorial game of skyward collapse on Friday, and I played the basic tutorial of Distant Worlds on Friday night. I played the tutorial for FE:LH as well. Last night I played some CK2 while holding the baby. The music appeared to calm her so she slept. My game and reading time comes when everyone else is napping or sleeping.
^The force is strong with this one.
That sounds about right. Naps well not in my house, but they do occassionally sleep. Sometimes even through the night. I love those nights so very, very much.

So I've washed 2 duvets, 2 duvet covers, 3 pillows and their covers, cleaned the hall carpet, living room carpet, bathroom carpet and the car upholstery! This mayhem was created by both of them!

Well...it's the second day after the "event"...and she mustered a thank you today...she's at the humble phase. I knew if I just threw the odd cursory disgusted glance her way she'd weaken a bit...so there's some chinks in the normally very resolute armour.

The game is clearly in the same style as the Cossacks games. The most similar game, imho, is the
Alexander game (made for the movie) which has a big focus on the story around the hero. Heroes of Annihiltated Empires has strong RPG elements....the hero gains in experience, can use weapons and other stuff, and buy potions. The Hero also has magic spells which are crucial to win. If you like the artwork of Cossack games, you will also like this one. It's the most advanced engine GSC has produced and is solid. There are 16 scenarios (i have just started number 7) which can last more than hours each. Some are very difficult...i even had to use a cheat code (never do this) to win scenario number 5 (more money). An interesting thing is the presence of a lot of mythological creatures (like centaurs). If you like elves, it's a game you should enjoy.

I'm playing Wizardry 8 - and with a modern PC it is considerably better than when it was originally released.
I finished out the weekend playing some racing games. Namely Need For Speed Hot Pursuit and Grid.

Things went well: worked on the game loft
Ran a few raids in the Burning Blue ( the Luftwaffe won the first one 8 to 0 -- convoys are hard to defend, the RAF won the second mostly because the convoy was way off by Portland, the radar spotted the raid 20 minutes out, the Hurricanes hit the 109s from high upsun and the Spitfires slaughtered the Stukas -- I had to pick the game up to move some shelves so I didn't tally the score)
Ran some CLOD -- the computer game always has more planes shot down for a given encounter -- my guess is it overdoes the damage -- even exploding me 110s were relatively rare.
And a lot of CKII
And some ARMAIII
I tried playing Sword of Rome with my almost-three-year-old (She hated Successors). She took the Gauls and stomped on the Cartheganians -- quite literally -- I had to distract her with raw meat or she would have pounded the game to a pulp. Oddly she refused the "Wild Beasts" option. In fact I had to put all references to "Wild Beasts" back in the game box. No wild beasts, just Gaulish loot boxes and merciless pounding on Carthage.
Played some CaW after buying it in the weekly Matrix sale. Enjoying it so far, though the small number of scenarios makes me glad i got it on sale.
Played some AoW:SM... Enjoying it but I'm a little put off by having to try to cover so much territory with a limited number of units. Playing the first non-tutorial scenario, and am having to chase down enemy units making bee-lines for lighter defended cities. The upkeep system is making it hard to build enough troops to cover everything, and until you get a level 3 (?) wizard tower you can't teleport units around as far as I can tell.
Also played a little PC:Ostfront... I need to give this game more playtime.
For the most part I played what I had originally intended to. Didn't have enough time to get to Vic2+HoD, but I did spend a few hours on Friday watching Das24680's HoD Lets Play on YouTube.
Finished off the weekend with Wargame: AirLand Battle. I actually lost to a medium difficulty AI last night (with an AI teamate), I feel so ashamed......
Went through and played round robin of Distant Worlds, CK2, FE Legendary Heroes, Vic II and surprisingly played RO2... which I liked.
Was ging to learn Dominions 3, but I have made myself set down and learn FM 2013, which I have always started to learn but then got distracted.
Picked up Iron Fron and DLC and hoping to play with the SimHQ guys are any other group I can find.
Plus got a lot of sun this weekend with the wife<!>

I need this game. I assume there's a skirmish mode? How's the multiplayer?

It couldn't be a better time to join our games, actually. At least half of us are noobs, and we're cheerfully discussing our strategies and swapping tips with each other. I only barely know enough to be able to use the interface, but that hasn't stopped me raging happily across the maps of all three games I'm involved in! :)

Turned out to be an ancient Rome weekend here. Despite a determination to get well into a game of DW: Shadows, I fired up my first game of Alea Jacta Est on Friday night, and only stopped long enough to switch over to HPS' Roman Civil Wars to get some tactical action in.
It looks like I'm to the same point with the AGE engine games that I am with Tiller's engine and Paradox's Clausewitz engine: I've played enough with each of these that the game mechanics have become second nature and I can really focus on and enjoy the games. I really am enjoying the subject matter and scope of AJE.
For about the first hour I tried it, I thought I'd made (another) HPS mistake in buying Roman Civil Wars. I was afraid that like POA 2 and Decisive Action that I had a game that was interesting in concept, but with a game system so broken as to be unplayable. I can certainly get why people feel that the interface in odd and clunky, but suddenly it clicked with me and I just didn't have any trouble with it. I passed many a happy hour Sunday learning just how difficult it really is to control your cavalry after a charge.
Congrats to our new fathers, and here's to hoping Dredd leverages his "good fortune" to the hilt!

I, too, keep coming back to the AJE and Ancient Warfare series lately. They've become my 'go to' turn-based wargames when I'm not sure what I feel like playing.
