Sorry I should have linked it. I saw it on their Facebook feed.

Thanks Dude !
Sounds like the bean counters over at Combat Ace are finding quite a few bugs, but there are a lot of posts saying that they love the game.
Very thin on useful feedback...
However, I think this is a safe buy if you're into the Strike Fighters series. You can never really trust the Combat Ace crew because they're all fanboys, but I'm reading a lot on how fun the naval combat is.
My impressions. more of the same SF2 with new plane and map. Of course with the F14, we now have the Phoenix missile and multiple targeting. Ships are now sinkable and try do fight back.
Some day 1 bugs are there like blank map view and not recognizing control settings. They at releasing a quick patch to fix the control bug.
It's a fun and light simulation but only recommended to those who like the series or hates study sims.
I just picked it up but noticed that the manual is from and old version. Tells me how to run the radar on an f-4 but not the f-14....do i have to guess or is it similar. I mean...you couldn't update the manual???
The manual in my install is updated. There's a also a link in the third wire forums
The PDF manual is not updated but the HTML manual in the same folder is updated.

So if I am understanding correctly, the sim is pretty much more of the same but in a different setting? Or is there anything fundamentally different from the other SF2 series?

That's right. Biggest addition is that there are are now anti-shipping missions. But I guess that works in the North Atlantic Map only.
Would be a nice platform for a full blown Falklands mod.
Grim,
I understand that there is some new graphics enhancements (that can cause a corresponding loss of frame rates, but I guess that depends on how close you are to the min specs...), and that the F-14 radar is beefier than the old SF2 radar with RWS, TWS, and VSI modes. You can shoot multiple AIM-54s at individual targets by selecting the targets in TWS without going to STT on each one.
New E-2 functionality and voice, although I hear the voice isn't anything to write home about.
I probably won't pick it up today, but sometime this week I'll probably give it a go. I've enjoyed the other SF titles for what they are so I'm sure this will be a "safe" purchase.

Thanks for the detail...just curious, does the enhancements of the latest version ultimately get applied to the remaining games in the SF2 series?
Grim,
I don't know. Someone on SimHQ mentioned that he felt the avionics.dll in SF:NA alone was worth the $30. I guess this means that modders will have the opportunity to retrofit the avionics.dll in NA to other jets, like the F/A-18, if they choose. I don't know about the graphics stuff.
Here's an AAR a dude posted on SimHQ that gives a fair amount of info: http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/3536359/The_sinking_of_the_Kiev.html#Post3536359
Very nice AAR...does make me interested:)
Great screenshots on that AAR. I can almost smell the burning fuel oil and salt air!
Looks really sweet ! I love the A-7 ! Never seems to get much press, unlike the F8 or A-6.

Nice. I have never survived an anti-shipping mission so far. To much AA and SAM activity. :(
I'm inclined to load up on anti-radar missiles and do stand-off runs as opposed to using the Walleye as the AAR did.
I like it but you have to understand I've been waiting for an updated version of the old "Fleet Defender" sim for a LONG time.
I think Thirdwire was about due to put out what is essential a study sim and the F-14 is a good candidate.
There are a number of bugs at this point but on the bright side a bunch of folks are already working on a "Red Storm Rising" campaign. I've already generated an A-10 anti-shipping mission ala that book but got my rear end handed to me by the vicious AA defenses.
If you like sims in general or have a taste for Cold War era naval aviation and combat it's a good buy.
I had convinced myself to hold off and wait, at least until the first patch is released, and because I'm pissed at TK for his attitude at watering down the series...alas, I broke down last night at 11:23 p.m. and bought it anyway.
Jarhead, do you find it watered down? I cant say as I never played teh earlier versions much. I mean, it aint no Falcon 4.0! What has he gotten rid of? I ask b/c I may go back and purchase some early versions like Vietnam. I'm diggin the A7
On a similar note, if I by the SF Europe, can I fly those planes in NA scenarios?

If you do what is known as a "merged install" you can fly all the aircraft in all the theaters. That's how I got my beloved A-10 to the North Atlantic.
Ok, is that a pain in the butt or fairly intuitive?

Piece of cake. Just install all the TW sims into the same program folder. It used to be a restriction that you had to install them in the order of their release (SF2, SF2V, SF2E, SF2I, SF2NA) but I think they've since removed that requirement.

He has not watered down anything in NA...however, he has indicated that he feels the series is too "complex" and should be further eased to attract a wider audience for future releases.
ahhh, thats right, I remember those comments now.
.. with the resurrection.
I spied Jomni's Strike Fighters 2 screenshots, in the sceenie thread sticky, and wanted to see what mods people were using for theirs.
While browsing through some of the playable modded aircraft, I've noticed a few MiGs that mention they require an "Indo-Pak Mod". Is there a whole Indo-Paki War(s) compilation mod floating around out there? That would be a good place to fly some MiG-21 & 23s, which would could be fun IMO. Anyone tried it?
See some of the screen shots, makes me wish they would do a naval sim!

Here's the Indo-Pak campaign but you also need to download the planes and stuff indicated in the info page. I haven't tried this campaign. I'm purse stock SF2 lately.

SweetFX shaders and lighting tweak: http://riseofflight.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=34103
SweetFX is ageneral shader mod but the link includes the FlightFX GUI for easier use. The GUI was made by a ROF user. It can be used with SF2 by linking an exe file.
Awesome. Thanks Jomni.
I didn't realize the Indo-Pak mod was set in '65. It's a bit earlier than I'd hoped. I'll stick with some stock campaigns for the moment.
However, the FlightFX link is something I definitely needed. I had found a SweetFX download, but not this gui add-on. :D
I'm having a nightmarish time trying to find the European Terrain Mod. Damn searches are popping up squat thus far and CombatACE doesn't have it's own terrain mod section for SF2. >:(
EDIT: Bah! I finally found the Terrain Mods section for SF2 on CombatACE. For some odd reason, they had it located in the separate folder named "Old Directory". ::)
I know this is weird, but I've delayed picking up the rest of the Strike Fighters collection since the Android/IOS version was made the priority.
Maybe DCS World will make it easier for people to bring Strike Fighters early era jets into a multiplayer world. That would be incredible.
