I might have to rethink and buy the physical version or it will take 3 days to download...

Chances are you will still have to download it, regardless of buying a hard copy...
35GB is huge, but it does not soften my complete hard-on for this game. It can't come soon enough.

I am just hoping that most of it will be on the physical version but no doubt a portion will still need to be downloaded, but hopefully a much smaller portion.
Looking at the shogun 2 requirements it says it needs 32gb space.....I just redownloaded this the other day and it was only 16gb to download. Therefore, the 35gb is likely needed once game extracted, but I am thinking the download itself will be half like shogun.
Hopefully they will let you preload it before it is released if you have preordered it.

Agreed
I remember STW2 to be my biggest Steam download so far. I bought the DVD version and Steam applied a 20GB patch to it. :)
But my biggest game is X-Plane at 33GB.
Dang, 35 Gb is...quite sizable. At least I have the space to spare.
I'm also pleasantly surprised to see I meet the recommended as well as minimum specs. I hadn't expected that. 8)

Same here. Most annoying.
In case anyone is looking for some super HD RTW2 wallpaper.

The Teutoburg forest one is around 185MB, but damn does it look good when spanning two monitors.
CA has stated they want the game to be as accessible as possible for as many players as possible. Besides the massive footprint it looks like they may have done it. The best news is that it is only two months away! With the kind of scope R2TW looks like it has, I may be playing it for a year straight.
I am also happy that CA have returned to an era and area with many different factions. I love Shogun but even for me the game can get a bit samey after extended play.

+1 much agreeing
...............and i was also all set up to play as Carthage or Egypt until i saw this:-
Each Legion can be:
(i) Renamed to what you like
(ii) Gain traditions in things like siege craft
(iii) If the legion gets slaughtered you can re-raise it with green troops and keep the traditions and experience that the banner offers. The troops will still be green. But they get the over all traits of the original legion.
(iv) change the symbol
This is all separate from the commanders traits.
..........being able to personalise the legion and carry it thru the entire game sounds very immersive
Damn...I did not know any of that. I wonder if they are introducing those features to include them in in the upcoming Warhammer game...it's always hard to tell. With the inclusion of trains and the telegraph in Fall of the Samurai I was sure the next game was to be Victoria Total War...time will tell.
Keep the good news about Rome 2 coming. I'd name my legions after all the beautiful women I've romanced over the years but then there would be...... almost none. I think FOTS would be a great engine for an ACW mod with the weapons and tech and the way after Realm Divide the whole country is neatly divided in half politically. Maybe a Franco-Prussian mod would work too. Hell I'll play anything TW.

if you can also name generals my first one will be Sir Slash - lover of not quite beautiful and slightly off putting women - converted to Latin of course, in your honour sir
Why thank you good sir. And I shall reciprocate and name my very first general, "Undercovergeek" in your honor. And I will make every effort to keep him safe from rampaging War Elephants and Flaming Pigs. ;)

Rome 2 currently has significantly less factions then Rome 1 does. From reading the current faction list, the only two factions in the east are Egypt and Parthia. Not to put off by it right now since more factions will probably be added as DLC. I just hope those factions will at least be on the map if you don't own the DLC.
Yeah if ever a set of game features fit into DLC, its new factions for sure.
I'm naming my first general Bawb.
Probably have to re-name mine, "Sir Lose-A-Lot".

I seem t recall that we did talk about an ACW TW game, but decided that it would be too limited since there are not enough factions. However, a Viccy Era one (more-or-less) offers considerably more scope.
An ideal for me would be one that ran from the Crimea up to the Russo-Jap war. There are some interesting conflicts in that period that cover a lot of the world.
Furthermore, it could include stuff such as the 7 weeks war and the Franco-Prussian war, plus the Boxer Rebellion and go from almost Napoleonic tactics to WW1.

No. No. I respect people who stand-up for their principals. Even though I have none. Other than to encourage others to stand-up for theirs. I am principally principless. But I respect others who do and torture themselves over them. I admire you all but would probably pre-order an empty box if it had the TW logo on it. ;D

Remember this,

The game will go on sale just a few months after release...AND it'll be patched-up a good deal at that point. We'll let the other poor schmucks with no self-control purchase the game at full price, plus deal with all the bugs. ;)
Day 1 - Rome II release
Day 2 - Screenshot thread full of awesome pics and daring do
Day 3 - Martok purchases
Day 4 - Ridicule Martok and throw spiders in his general direction
Day 1: Rome II release
Days 2-4: People bitching about problems related to install issues, Steam issues, download speeds, or some combination thereof.
Days 5-12: People running into various bugs, some merely annoying, others causing CTD's. CA releases "free" DLC content.
Days 13-40: CA releases patches/updates that fix some things, but break others.
Days 41-70: CA releases more DLC (not free), along with sporadic patches/updates. Complaints drop, but still simmer.
Day 71: CA/Sega announce Rome II: Caesar's Edition. Includes all updates and previously-released DLC, and will cost $20 less than the original version. Fanbase howls.
Day 99: Rome II: Caesar's Edition released.
Day 100: More bugs are discovered in CE. Complaints surge again.
Day 109: Patch fixing the worst of the bugs is put on Steam. Wrong version is uploaded, however, and Steam accidentally breaks everyone's game. Dogs everywhere go apeshit and are confused -- they didn't realize humans could make noises in that register.
Day 110: Steam issues fixed, but then promptly crashes when everyone tries to download new patch at the same time. CA studio director Tim Heaton finds a horse's head in his bed the next morning.
Day 122: New patch is released. Fanbase find nothing overtly wrong with the new update.
Day 126: After a few days of testing the new patch, general consensus is the game is no longer horrible. In fact, it may actually be pretty fun now.
Days 127-135: Martok considers purchasing the game, but dithers.
Day 136: It's announced that Rome II Caesar's Edition has gone on sale for $25.00. Score! Martok prepares to purchase on pay-day (3 days later).
Day 138: Martok's car starts making funny noises. Martok starts swearing in four different languages.
Day 140: Repairs to car made, but Martok is now broke for the next month. Sale on Caesar's Edition ends.
Day 170: Martok purchases Caesar's Edition. Begins playing; is happy.
Day 171: A sudden one-day sale for Caesar's Edition begins -- just $15.00! Dogs in Martok's neighborhood hear that same noise all the dogs in the rest of the world heard two months ago...

Actually, it didn't take me that long to do. It just seemed flow naturally.
On a somewhat tangential subject: Why is it that I never find the mistakes in my posts (especially spelling & grammatical errors) until afterward when someone has quoted it, thus enshrining my goof-ups for all time? Gah!! >:(
I feel like Martok's timeline is missing the inevitable barbarian expansion or alternate timeline standalone campaign (hopefully the Dark Ages from around 350 to 1066 or whenever Medieval 2 starts).
OTOH, that would add around double to his entries, so never mind. Good job as it is. :)

Kushan was getting at. I think he means he wants it confirmed *by the players* that the suicidal general issue has been eradicated -- not just that the battle AI programmer intends to get rid of it. (After all, there's often a gap between what one intends and what the actual results are...)
