'World of Tanks' x 'Girls und Panzer' dream collaboration announced (http://sgcafe.com/2013/07/world-tanks-girls-und-panzer-dream-collaboration/)
QuoteIn Tokyo earlier yesterday at their establishment party, Wargaming Japan announced that one of its free-to-play titles, World of Tanks, will officially launch on September 5th within the country.
World of Tanks is an award-winning game that even holds a world record for having the most players online on one MMO server. With nearly two-hundred and fifty armored truck and tank models to choose from – each historically based off of the models of different countries – you can build your army and face off against other players. Whoever thinks that you have to pay for anything decent clearly hasn't played World of Tanks.
Among the packed party, the crowd included representatives from Belarus and Wargaming representative director Kawashima Yasuhiro. But perhaps the greatest news came from Bandai Visual's Kiyoshi Sugiyama, who revealed a dream collaboration between World of Tanks with the extremely popular anime Girls und Panzer.
While no concrete details concerning the collaboration was revealed, we can rest assured that no matter what Wargaming comes up with, it will be amazing.

I am a little embarrassed to admit this, but I have watched the first three episodes of Girls und Panzer and I am actually enjoying it! :-[ It's hard getting past the whole school girl thing that Japanese anime seems obsessed with, but once you do it is actually quite entertaining. The tank action is pretty darn good for a cartoon! And I will even admit to the show making me chuckle a few times (I like that girl who can't get up in the morning for the matches...reminds me of myself! ;D)
Even more interesting is how I am enjoying World of Tanks lately. :) I never cared for it when it came out because it was too game-y for me. But now that I realized it is really not meant to be anything more than a re-imagining of Atari's
Tank game, but with modern graphics, I am enjoying it much more! :D And, yes, Girls und Panzer is feeding the addiction. :) Not surprisingly, I heard about the anime from the WoT community:
LOL!
I have to admit I would love to see a live action,
adult co-ed, version of this made into a movie.
if you havnt bought camo for your tanks there are tons of anime skins you can download. a lot are from this cartoon.

Really? LOL! Makes sense. I haven't looked into camo yet but I might have to check it out. :D
Haha. Cool anime
Id recommend getting the camo now that it actually has some very real effects on view range and hiding.
if youre playing TD its fairly important especially below tier 7. a Stug with camo paint, camo net and all the crew with full camo skill is harder to spot then the invisible man.

Good to know! I am just at Tier 3, so I am a noob that needs to learn a lot yet. As a matter of fact I was curious if camo had a real effect or if it was just for show. Now I know! Thanks!
and never sell your crews! always transfer them and keep their experience.

Also, it was just announced that it is coming to the States on DVD/BluRay this winter:
QuoteNews for GuP USA release on dvd and Blu ray will be December 2013 from Sentia Filmworks and the OVA's will be released next year.
I suspect this news will not come as a shock to many. Ever since I first saw an episode of Girls Und Panzer last year at a friend's house, I figured it was only a matter of time before the show somehow got involved with WoT. 8)
A vid has been released about the new changes coming in the 8.8 version of WoT:
At last, new voices! The standard voice they use now is just so grating, especially on non-American vehicles. And I also like the new service record features. The other day I was poking around in it and saw how limited it was in functionality.
Can't believe I got hooked on this game.... ::)
I'm hoping WOT doesn't get inundated with a bunch of anime junk. ???
That would certainly keep me away from ever playing it. Forever.
havent even thought about it since getting AirLand.

As arty I regularily lob shells on the hunting lairs of low tier TDs, it pays off, but the payoff falls as the TDs go up in tiier and their armour gets better relative to blast area and damage from an arty shell
good luck with that when your in a match with me. all camo'ed up I can sit in the middle of a field at range and be invisible.
pew pew pew pew!!!
well, with the Stug I can. the Ferd/Jagd not so much but, thats what you get for driving a warehouse.

Can you say "IP Infringement"? This is NOT a vid from WoT but from another East European Facebook game called "Project Tank":
Wow. Just...wow. ::)
And what is the business strategy here? Usually you try to "borrow" a good idea from another game and build upon it. This is just outright cloning of an established hit. Who are you trying to entice to come over? I mean, WoT is F2P as it is, so you don't even have a monetary angle!

It is mentioned in passing that the interior of tanks are covered in some sort of magic "carbon" that keeps the crew safe. I also understand that in the manga it is explained that all the shells have special circuitry that keeps them from penetrating into the crew compartment. Remember, these are NOT authentic WWII tanks but recreations made especially for the sport of Tankery.
I confess that I watched the first episode of this anime merely out of curiosity...and wound up finishing all 12 episodes! It really is quite good! I wrote a review here (http://www.burkesjoystick.com/2013/08/intermission-review-of-girls-und-panzer.html) where I explain just why I was so pleasantly surprised. It wasn't just the excellent tank battles - and they really were quite exciting! - it was the fact that it was also a very nice story about the importance of friendship and treating others with respect. Overall, I thought GuP was a class act.
I hope we get a big budget live action movie one day....

What is that? An official model? I confess to being such a fan of this show now that I wouldn't mind a bit of memorabilia.
cyber hobby IIRC is a division of Dragon Models. looks like they took a standard PZ-4 kit added some decals and maybe a figure set and almost tripled the price.
same model on hobby link japan is $38 ;)

It often features innate pedophilia for some reason. I find it very creepy.

Amazing how this show has captured the imagination of so many people. While I don't believe the anime will ever catch on in the west as hugely as it has in Japan, I think a live action movie could be quite popular. Let Zack Snyder make it. :)
anime is quite popular here in the US but its turned into stuff that folks like us probably wont watch.

Hey Chris..... one wish.... smoke!!!!
You're not the only one! There are several reasons it's not already in the game, including:
- Graphics cards capabilities - players may run the game on a computer that would lag horribly with smoke. As the baseline computer improves, we may be able to drop support for cards that don't support smoke effects.
- Server-side processing - all smoke would have to be calculated on the server side, to prevent cheating and ensure an equal play environment, but the calculation load is already high with existing physics, shooting, and building deformation.
- Smoke effects - temporary camo? starting fires (WP)? wind effects? We'd like to do it all and do it right, so we're going to hold off until we can agree on what to include and make sure it works.
We have a long, long list of features we'd like to include, and smoke is definitely on there, we just haven't gotten to it yet. ;D
...and what does this have to do with the original post? :P

Hey, nobody's perfect! ;D
In reality, there are a lot of factors that impact even an experienced crew's ability to damage a target. These are generally divided into three ballistic groups (internal, external, and terminal) and a set of other non-technical factors (crew experience, crew comfort, crew distraction, crew morale, crew fatigue, terrain, weather, lighting, ). I won't bore you with details for all of these (such as the barrel droop, lining/rifling wear, metal quality, etc. for the internal ballistics of tank guns) but suffice it to say that even experienced crews miss a lot more of the time in the field than they do on the firing range. I have seen experienced and well-trained soldiers who shoot perfect 40s on the target range miss dozens of shots in the field under pressure. We use a simple random spread to simulate all of these other factors, which helps to prevent super-elite crews from becoming perfect and dominating the game unfairly. My solution: get closer, have a reload/fallback position, and bring a friend to cover you while you reload. It's a team game! 8)
