From August 24 through August 30, Civil War Battles: Campaign Gettysburg is this week's Game of the Week, featured at 25% off. Go beyond the three famous days in July and command the wider 1863 campaign—from Brandy Station and Winchester to Gettysburg, Pipe Creek, and Lee's retreat. With more than 620 scenarios and variants, shifting arrivals, alternate routes, and uncertain enemy positions make reconnaissance, timing, and cavalry work as important as battlefield tactics. Can you turn incomplete information into victory before your opponent does?

Quote from: Father Ted on August 23, 2026, 05:57:35 PMI had some fun playing the tank "sim" add-on for IL2 Great Battles.  More of a proof of concept than an actual game, it nevertheless had bags of atmosphere when played on a server with people flying around as well.  Shooting down a player-flown Bf110 with the commander's 50 cal on a Sherman stands out in the memory.
I did enjoy il2 tank crew as well. It has some really cool simulation elements. For example the ventelation fans after firing the main gun, which could also be damaged suffocating the crew if you turned them off iirc?
However compared to Tank Squad it is night and day, especially since il2 tank crew was so limited and static while offering prey for the main element of il2, the aircraft players. Il2 Tank Crew also had pretty bland and flat terrain without any infantry to speak of that did anything other than stand there.

Incidentally, I think Tank Squad has half track\armoured personel carrier mounted troops as well.

Looks like the Tank Squad devs are heading to gamescon right now.

I had no idea they had a ballistic lab in the main menu

Quote from: Dimitris on August 23, 2026, 09:21:32 AMYour concern is heard and acknowledged.

Now how about playing the actual game? And enjoying the new multiplayer mode :)
Thanks Dimitris. Anything I can do to help?

I should clarify that other games can be played at a significant load of 40% or more on the first core with no temp issues. Usually though these games are spread across cores though, but most cores including the first one will be between 20% and 40%.

CMO seems to be at 10-15% utilisation and only on the first core while sending temps to what is an acceptable level for the CPU type I have, but double what most other games cause including high end ones. I just had the most cores over 50% utilisation including the first core for space marine 2 set to ultra settings in a mission shooting at stuff for half the temp load.

I am wondering because I undervolted my CPU because of CPU heat issues due to poor architecture (bottleneck) if CMO is somehow undoing that and sending the voltage on the cpu up somehow. I have not had time to check that out though.

I'd love to enjoy the new multiplayer mode, with the fans and temperature like they are constantly I will have to wait until the issue is fixed.    It sounds like you guys know what you need to do to fix  this. It's just a matter of time.

The campaign continues, much to my surprise! I thought it would end with scenario 6. But we were sent off to defend a line and holy crap, it turned ugly. We learned all about how to defend against Japanese Banzai attacks and how brutally effective they are. You can watch two companies of Marines be evaporated in this playthrough. What a brutal realization of how effective the Japanese can be when they want to! We were successful, but at what cost indeed...

Thank you for tuning in! I really appreciate the support!

It is a hard scenario campaign indeed. One way to help is double timing your para's when you can. It helps move faster and reduce the extra turns needed.

As for your question about Vietnam and Middle East, no, not yet, but that is one my wish list!

Agreed. It had great potential. Just wished they had added infantry. Then it could have been a real competitor for best in class.

I would imagine that is a problem for a submarine game

Meanwhile, for even older but still respected jank, how about Panzer Elite (sold by GoG) with mods?
