As part of reading about this I learned that "the other" Russo-Japanese naval wargame, Distant Guns, has FINALLY been freed of its obnoxious and hateful DRM scheme and is now free to download:

If you know the backstory, you know. If you don't, you're better off.

I am pretty suspicious of free stuff these days. Especially off site mods. I just don't want the hastle. Especially when the guys running the sites are outside of the well and tightly run and staffed publisher sites.

Back in the day I don't know what they were thinking with the DRM. Wargamers are generally upstanding people. It's not like billions of copies were going to be sold either. Starting a steam competitor with a wargame so niche was utter madness.
The games though, brilliant.

Greyhound sucked IMHO.

The Norwegian convoy movie was much better.

Aside from a) the German commander hacking into the TBS to taunt Tom Hanks and b) the garishly painted Uboat insignia(s), I thought it was a pretty good movie.  It had some places where you have to suspend disbelief, but when you try to bring Awfully Slow Warfare (ASW) to the silver screen, you have to make some compromises. I thought the movie did a pretty good job of balancing the need to make an interesting movie with keeping it reasonably historical.

Exactly. As far as hollywood movies go, it was better than 99% of them fidelity wise, while keeping the audience engaged while the long convoy haul took place.
I do wish the taunting was not in it though, that's the hardest part to look past.

I liked Greyhound a lot. Had to look past the wolfs call and the conning tower decals though. Apart from that it was a very engaging movie and a rare one in these times at that.
The Norwegian convoy movie was good but I hated the ending.

I'm not familiar with the issue, what's the Cliffsnotes of it?

My understanding is that the publisher is trying to take control of the development of the game from the developer on the theory that the developer has failed to update, fix and otherwise complete the game in a timely manner. I believe there was a major update planned for October that the publisher rejected and that was the final straw that broke the camel's back. I haven't had the time or motivation to look deeper at the legal arguments being raised. Certainly, development has been undeniably slow and torturous.

Woot! That's good news if there ever was some.

If you had told me in 2000 that there is a Norm Koger game that I don't buy I would have called you mad. Then their drm and his obnoxious sidekick came along...

I dunno. I'm not willing (or able) to overlook the comms from the German commander. There are just too many things wrong with it. Submered submarin using radio, breaking radio silence, contacting in the first place...
