Just curious though, what sort of music did you think I was into?  I'm always interested in what peoples perceptions are.

Good stuff. I was a big fan of the early stuff as well. Songs like Hong Kong Garden, Christine, Metal Postcards, and Arabian Nights were a great counter balance to the Sex Pistols, Ramones, Dead Kennedys, Saccharine Trust, Dead Boys, Butthole Surfers, and all the other angry punk that I was listening to back then. The Cure was a great band back in the late 70's-80's as well.

Thinking about all of that music is like having flashes of a past-life experience. Almost like homesickness...  :-\

Honestly, there is a lot of great music being made now. You just have to work a bit to find it.

You are correct, of course.
Every day one of my Pandora streams or internet radio stations brings me something good. It's just that bands like Siousxie and the Banshees, the Cure, Echo&the Bunnymen, Shriekback, etc cause me to remember a different time in my life when music was almost an adventure of discovery that required one to travel to rock clubs and scour the record store racks, listen to college radio stations, borrow cassettes from friends, and never miss an episode of the original 120 Minutes on MTV. It was the time of Toad's Place and The Ozone in New Haven, the Agora Ballroom/Stage West in West Hartford, and there was no internet to track down band names or song lyrics and no iTunes to instantly get access to songs.
If you wanted something you had to drive from store to store in hopes that it wouldn't be sold out. I can still remember how much of a stir it caused among all my friends when my buddy Jim brought a Ramones single home from England that was not available in the USA at the time and wouldn't be available to buy until the Ramones released their next album a year or two later.

The quest for good music back then was like a primal urge, just behind sex and about even with beer, depending on the situation. Maybe it's because I'm almost 50 now but it seems that good music it just too easy to get, much like cheap games on Steam. There is no sense of triumph when you score some melodic awesome nowadays. That's all.

There are a lot of good new punk and alternative bands out there.  But they can be difficult to find if you don't subscribe to XM or actively look for them on the internet.

Teenage Bottlerockets are great.  Bigger than Kiss is awesome.

Siousxie and the Banshees was a very unusual band for their technical expertese and the vocal range of the lead singer.  But they were horrible in concert droning on and on and on instead of playing studio length versions of their music.  I've never found a band quite like them.  Ramones, Dead Kennedys, etc..... have lots of bands with similar styles.

I knew about Moorcock and musicians.  I didn't know about his affiliation with BOC, but I know that he has written and performed tunes with Hawkwind.  They have several songs/albums dedicated to Elric and Moorcock's Eternal Champion.
