A few small changes:

Alien probe teams now use the correct art.

The Cyborg faction now correctly has the Technology Steal ability.

The Drone faction now correctly includes the Base Revolt ability of 75%.

What is the download link, didn't see it on the Firaxis website?

Sorry did not mention that the update is for the GOG.com version.

How come this is still being updated?  Who's updating it?

Good question. Also, does anyone know if Scient's unoffical patch works with this version?

I was wondering that myself.  Not that I'm complaining, of course, but I'll admit to a certain amount of puzzlement.

The most obvious answer I can think of is Firaxis itself is doing this.  However, it's hard to imagine they would bother to do so for a game that's over ten years old.  Even if they would, though, is there anyone still working there who'd possess the requisite knowledge to create such an update?

Perhaps all parties gave permission for some of the "unofficial" fixes to be implemented?

There's an explanation of the 2.0.2 patch at Civfanatics in the first post of this thread: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?p=12147739

Quote
...Good Old Games (GOG) recently released Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri (SMAC) with the inclusion of the Alien Crossfire (SMAX) add-on. The original release was flawed, in that SMAX reported within the game a version number of 1.0 (use Ctrl-F4 in the game to see the version number). The most recent version of SMAX is 2.0. (SMAC reports version 5.0. This is correct, since the Win2k/XP compatibility update changes the version number to 5.0.)

On January 3, 2013, GOG released an updated installer file (for those who hadn't already purchased the version that included SMAX) and a "Universal Update" (for those who already had the games). These updates changed the SMAX version to 2.0....

...sounds like there might have been some initial issues with the patch, but apparently all is good now.

An installer update.  That explains it.
