Nope. Each square is just a hundred meters I think. So keep them spread out. Don't make missions where attacker and defenders are just a few squares away.

We had a great turn out on Saturday and played for about three hours.  The main mission was an infiltration mission.  We played as a team of German sappers tasked with sneaking through Soviet lines and destroying a fuel depot.

We spent almost 40 very tense minutes stealthily moving through Soviet defenses.  We got into position and our 4 man team of sappers were going to attempt to crawl up and place charges around the fuel trucks in the depot while three squads provided security.

Here's a video of what happened.

Looks like another fun mission.

These vids are outstanding, even astonishing, and better than any war movie I've ever seen.  Interesting too how different it all plays out with real people invovled than in games like the Combat Mission series.

Haha.  Shooting an MG42 without bipod support.   Quite interesting.
The scout cars can be defeated by shooting the wheels first.  Then pick off the gunner in the open top.

JudgeDredd

^ I thought that.

strange as the game is pretty realistic in some ways. Mind you - there's virtually nowhere to "rest" said bipod and going prone is useless.

Is there a key to "extend" the bipod and steady the gun?

Yes, everyone is welcome.  Just go over to SimHQ and register for the forums.  Once you're registered, go to the main screen and on the right hand side, you'll see the TeamSpeak list and link.  Click on the link and you'll get the TS password.  Iron Front server password is found in the Iron Front sub-forum.

We play on Saturdays starting at 1pm PST/ pm EST/ 9pm GMT.  We have quite a few Brits who play as well as a group of Russians who show up intermittently.  The Brits are going to set up another playing session at a time they find more convenient.  When exactly that will be is still under discussion.

That mission was a tough one.  The fuel depot was located at a crossroads surrounded by nothing but open fields on three sides.  We spent a long time sneaking around to the south, then west until we reached a ditch with some tree cover and then snuck up north to approach the depot from the west where we had some cover from shrubs and barns.  Unfortunately we were spotted and the AI did a good job of collapsing in on us from all directions.  There were two scout cars to the east and south east.  Both stayed well back and just hammered us with their .50s while the infantry moved up and hit us with grenades.  40 minutes of sneaking only to have all 22 players cut down within 5 minutes....

SDR, are you saying the missions you guys play are against the AI versus other human teams?  If so, that appears to be some impressive AI, which is good to see.

I purchased and messed around with the new D-Day content this morning.  Mainly was trying the sniper mission where you have two snipers trying to eliminate a German leader.  This one is driving my crazy a little since I am finding it hard to control the other sniper.  I put the person in stealth mode and tell him to hold fire so we can sneak to the main target.  But he doesn't want to listen.  Everytime he sees an enemy, even if it is a tank, he opens fire which gives us away.  I am thinking when I try this mission again, I am just going to shoot my partner sniper and go it alone:)

The AI is very hit-or-miss.  Sometimes it will react in what seems like a very aggressive manner and use effective tactics.  Other times, enemies will mill around like imbeciles, charging across an open field, face first into machine-gun fire.  Other times they won't react at all.  I think the soft vehicle driver AI routines are probably the screwiest.  We have a number of convoy ambush missions that we play and drivers will often veer off the road and start driving around the map in random directions.  It's not uncommon to see one truck calmly try to execute a 3 point turn and drive off in the direction it came from all while it's getting riddled with small arms fire.

We play a combination of co-op missions (human vs. ai) and player-vs-player missions.  We usually have 2 or 3 "main" co-op missions that tend to be the most complex and time consuming.  We play one of those, then 15-20 minutes of PVP firefights and then go into another co-op mission.

As for your sniper mission, are you sure you've got the AI sniper selected?  You will see stealth and hold fire icons appear on his unit box if you've successfully given the orders.

Yep, it shows the proper symbols on the sniper's picture.  Not sure why he chooses to open fire.

Silent Disapproval Robot

Strange.  I had no such problem when I played that scenario.  Maybe try to order him to hold back?
