MD Gun Law Overturned

This may bring a smile to a few faces.

Maryland residents do not have to provide a "good and substantial reason" to legally own a handgun, a federal judge ruled Monday, striking down as unconstitutional the state's requirements for getting a permit.

U.S. District Judge Benson Everett Legg wrote that states are allowed some leeway in deciding the way residents exercise their Second Amendment right to bear arms, but Maryland's objective was to limit the number of firearms that individuals could carry, effectively creating a rationing system that rewarded those who provided the right answer for wanting  to own a gun.

While I'm not a gun enthusiast myself, I can't say this ruling makes me sad.  Maryland's law makes me think of China's "guilty until proven innocent" justice system.

Same thought occurred when D.C. was overturned. It was a good ruling but the local governemnt made it almost impossible to get a gun.

I'd like to look at this in about 6 months and see if MD is actually in line with the ruling or if they will just add so many layers of 'requirements'.

While this is a good ruling, I'm curious about the other part - where the judge said it is appropriate for localities to make *some* rules regarding ownership. I wonder how that falls out?
