The remake of X-Com which tries to update the old game system continues to make progress.  I'm really looking forward to this due to my disappointment with the new X-com release.

....So, yes – we're progressing towards beta. We don't have a firm date yet as we've been burned by those in the past, but hopefully the next build after V17.52 will contain the full research tree and you'll be able to see how close we are for yourselves!

I have been looking forward to Xenonauts for a long time. I hope it will be finished soon.

Thanks for the latest, Airboy.
Regardless of how good a PC game may be it will always have its detractors and no matter how bad a PC game may be it will always have its fans.

I am so inept technically I have to get my son to show me how
to post some screenies.

Yeah, the game rocks. It has a much more grim feel to it than X-Com, and I really like the Cold War setting. As most of the data is kept in XML files it's very moddable too. I created a mod that expanded on the soldier's backgrounds and also increased the name pool.

So in its current near-beta state, this is worth playing?

Well, you can't complete the game as the full tech-tree isn't in yet and there isn't a proper tactical AI yet but the tactical battles are fun. Be prepared for the odd crash though.
