Dan,
I've been looking at the "Special Forces" pnp game and was wondering why a high quality boxed version was never made?  My 13yr old son is wanting something modern day-tactical and there just isn't many boardgames that cover that.  SF was one that I found but there's very little reviews on it but what few there are seem to be very favorable.  We want to play it on the table and not on VASSAL (we'd just play any number of FPS computer games if it came to that) and I'm not so big on printing and assembling my own copy.  Any thoughts of giving this game a proper production run?  Thanks

Gary - by "modern" are you referring to post-Vietnam, or post-Cold War, or current GWOT-type ops?

Current, GWOT or even SWAT/urban combat.

I have the Phoenix Command minatures system and that is what my son is looking for; but with out the roleplaying aspect and something a tad less paperwork intensive.  I've thought about designing maps and counters for Phoenix Command with perhaps an Impulse tracking chart so that you could place counters on the track for each character indicating when their impulse is due (and what type of action they've committed to).  I may just do that if I can't find something that's out there already.

I showed him what little I've found on "Special Forces" (VASSAL rules) and apparently that looks to be too light for him.  He really likes the idea of hit locations and wound effects (again, all simulated in Phoenix Command - after you go through 20 charts for every bullet fired!).

Seems this area is very lightly covered in boardgaming.  Not surprising I suppose since this is really the video games forte.
