I found it to be about as scary as an episode of Three's Company.  You can basically just walk through 90% of it because there's no meaningful penalty for dying.

That's what the Depends are for.

I found if I suspended my disbelief and had minimal distractions, the game was indeed scary.

Well I'm just looking for a few neck hair raisers during the game play.

Well it should be interesting to play a game where you cannot fight back against the antagonists.

The Thief series gave a good feel for that, too.

I can remember being in the city of the dead in the first one being chased by hordes of undead. It sucked.

I always thought he did it on purpose and then made up some excuse like "Oh my controller fell in my peanut butter" or something or other.

In Thief you can fight back, you just have to be stealthy about it. In Amnesia there's nothing you can do.

I never played Thief.  I heard it doesn't play nice with Win7.

Which one? I think they are all available and playable on Win7 now from GoG. And they still rock.
