In Thief you can fight back, you just have to be stealthy about it. In Amnesia there's nothing you can do.

Except with undead. Who can see you hiding in the dark. And chase you with growing hordes. It was horrible.

Still, I'd like to go back and try that again. Could be fun.

Deep roots are not reached by the frost.

There are undead in Thief?  Huh.

^One fire arrow in that scenario and you'll be living the high life again.

Crap. Now you're tempting even me.

$10 at GoG. I may take the plunge.

Besides fire arrows (if they are in the first game, I forget)...there are traps and forms of skullduggery in Thief.

But to be honest I would go with Thief: Deadly Shadows (the last one in the series released). IMHO it's the best one.

Be warned I have had very recent troubles with my old saves and being unable to save new progress in W7 with Deadly Shadows.

I found it to be about as scary as an episode of Three's Company.  You can basically just walk through 90% of it because there's no meaningful penalty for dying.

Well aren't you a big brave man.

Silent Disapproval Robot

Taking it personally, are you?

Look, the thing with Amnesia is that about 3/4th of the monsters will simply disappear if you let them catch you.  You get re-spawned about 1 minute back in the game and can then proceed unimpeded by the ghoulies.  Kinda removed any of the tension for me.

The work on that sarcasm font can't finish soon enough.

No, I just thought it wasn't particularly classy of you to stumble in and take a nice big shit on a thread in which Bison bought a new game and was getting psyched to play it.

Bison

I'm still psyched to play it.  Gus said it was gooder, so it must be awesomer!

Silent Disapproval Robot

Well, hopefully you can resist the temptation to play as I did and just run through it and instead play it in the manner the devs intended.  (it was pretty spooky until I discovered the exploit).

Bison

It's all good.  I figured I'd die about 300 to 400 times before understanding the game mechanics.

Gusington

I played it very slowly and deliberately. It was more gooder that way.

Toonces

I enjoyed what I played of it, but the camera thingy it does when you get freaked out makes me want to BARF.
