Anyone else get this?  I fired it up this morning, but only had time to run through the quick virtual tutorial.  The first mission began and the level of detail was staggering.  I could see I'm going to have an FPS issue though, so I'm going to have to tone the details down a bit.  Still, the tutorial has me really excited for this one.  The Crysis suit has some nice new features that make it feel more advanced this time around, like special vision modes and the ability to mark targets and even hack certain electronic components that control things like doors and automated turrets.

I thought the first one was excellent.  I liked the second one, but generally enjoyed the fist experience better.

I played he second one, not the first. Curious how it compares...

As a FPS gamer I've played the first two and enjoyed them both. Also Crysis Warhead. Since I usually buy the boxed copy I'll need to wait for Amazon free shipping delivery (shipped today). You digital downloaders will be about a week ahead of me in play so I'll keep my eye on this thread.

I expect great things from Crysis 3 and now with the bow weapon. I hope I don't "take an arrow to the knee" to add to my suffering. Play on brothers and sisters.

I definitely have my eye on the Crysis collection (plus Crysis 3), but I'm a bit conflicted about whether to get it for PS3 or my PC.

On one hand, my PC should be able to run the visuals better.

On the other hand, I run kind of a library of movies and games for our factory employees, and PS3 versions would be more accessible for loaning out to them. So if the PS3 version doesn't start choking on the graphics I'd probably go with that.

Which until recently wouldn't have been a problem, but the PS3 is starting to show its age in regard to current generation games.

The game rocks so far.  The only problem is that it is really testing my new rig.  My graphics card really is a light weight.  This game may justify an upgrade. Maxed out it is positively spectacular...graphically, it is everything Aliens:Colonial Marines should have been.

I'm going to hold off for a bit and see what the general consensus is.  I liked the original Far Cry a lot as well as the first Crysis.  I didn't enjoy Warhead as much.  I still haven't played Crysis 2.  I remember that I couldn't get the demo to run when it was first released and then I recall reading some less than stellar reviews.  I decided to wait on getting it and just never did.

So far, the general consensus is overwhelmingly positive.  Take that FWIW, though.  You never can tell...

Crysis 3 really kicks a$$. If you are even remotely on the fence, get it.  Make sure your rig is up to the task though, because it will be tested.  This may be the best looking game I've ever played.

How open are the levels?  Is there enough space to try different tactics/approaches or is it more linear in design?

As far as story-based FPS games go, its pretty open.  I have not felt like I'm trapped on rails, or that I'm being led by the game's story on a linear path. The mission maps have great variety so far and have included large open outdoor areas, as well as some and indoor locations too.  However, even in the indoor portions of the game, it never feels like you're spending most of your time running through tight hallways and corridors.  There are several large interior rooms, like loading bays, hangars, warehouses, etc., that give you a lot of room to move around and maneuver.  In other words, there are many different ways to get from one end of the map to the other...

Jarhead, talk to us about the weaponry and guns like you did for us in Crysis 2 back in The Wargamer days.

OK, OK...you twisted my arm... ;D

The weapons are bada$$ and the customization options have been expanded.  Most of the add-ons and attachments are locked, until you actually find a weapon with the attachment in the field.  There are options for barrel attachments, optics, magazines and even ammunition types, and they can be switched and changed conveniently on the fly.  For instance, you can be working a tight room with a rifle equipped with a reflex sight for quick target acquisition.  After you clear the room, you move outdoors into a large open environment with patrolling enemies off in the distance.  You can quickly swap the reflex sight for a scope, or an ACOG and engage those targets at further distances.

You have your standard assortment of handguns, submachineguns, assault rifles and GPMGs. On top of this there is also an assortment of unique Seph (ie. alien) weapons that are sometimes available to use in the field.  They are all a lot of fun to experiment with handle and shoot. The big new weapon in Crysis 3 though is the tactical compound bow.  I was sort of on the fence with this one, as I'm not really into "archery" in modern combat...but after using it for awhile, I'm sold.  Its a one shot, one kill weapon and you can modify the payload of arrows.  For instance, you can equip an arrow with an explosive head, or with one that discharges an electrical blast...you can also modify the strength of your draw, but I honestly have not played around with this so I'm not sure how it works.

So far, when it comes to weapons, I have not been disappointed.
