Games That You Love But Suck At

Chivalry  I'm not terrible at it but I'm not great either.  I usually get around a 1:1 - 1.5:1 K/D ratio which is kinda sucky but I have fun doing it.

(OK, I don't love it but I want to.  I watch videos of guys who really know how to fly it and I want to be able to do that.  So why can't I even get my GBUs to hit accurately?)

Look at this video.  It's freaking awesome!  It would take me 10 minutes just to set up for a single Maverick launch I'd I'd likely still miss.  I wonder how long it took these guys to get as proficient as they are?

Intense stuff, makes me really want to learn this baby!

I agree.  I'm the same way.  I've played a lot of flight sims and generally have just sucked in multiplayer.  From time to time I've managed to
survive and occasionally have shot down other players even, but yes, flight sims are a type of game I really like and at which I pretty much suck.

I'm terrible at chess too, but at least I don't like chess.  Or at least I have learned to avoid playing it too much.

Most strategy games.

I really want to love Alpha Centuri and games of that sort but eventually they just feel too much like work in real life. What is the fun in that?

I really love the concept of the early CM games (CMBO, CMBB, CMAK) but I always end up getting my rear handed to me.

I love and have gained a certain amount of success in flight sims.

IL-2 1946. I really wanted to fly a whole WWII campaign. I didn't care for who, or if I bacame an ace, just to take part. But I couldn't even survive the Pearl Harbor battle as the Japanese. At least I'm equally bad as all the major combatants so it's not a national thing. As I passed-over the bloody fields of Russia in my shiny new Messerschmidt, I can hear the Russian soldiers below laughing at me from 10,000 feet. Gus, what difficulity level are you playing STW2? That's actually one game I did rather well at.

Ah, I have such fond memories of trying to survive as a Russian in the campaign in that game.  I recall one mission near Kronstadt where I did okay in my Polikarpov-16: cranking up the landing gear, not getting killed, cranking out for a landing.  Since the fond memories end there, I assume that's about as far as I got.

Anything real time that isn't pause-able. Civ above Prince level, which sucks because I'm probably played a thousand games of Civ in my lifetime.

I'm playing Shogun 2 at normal difficulty. I am fully surrounded by enemies. I am fighting for the Shogunate and the Imperials are just kicking ass and taking names. There's nowhere for me to hide. I am doing well tactically but I have fires to deal with everywhere.

For computer games, I actually enjoy a number of RTS titles (Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 always being my favorite), but I'm not much good at them, especially in any sort of online play.  I've never really had the requisite reflexes and quick mind needed to compete in such twitch-fests.

Currently:  Operation Darkness - love to play but I suck out loud.  I do better in XCOM but not much.


In general: Anything COD.  I end up with a hole in the chest straight out of the spawn gate always, everytime.  I suck.  Much better in BF3, ARMA II, and GRFS.

Alea Jacta Est..... great game, but a lot to manage and I play it anyway.  Maybe just and Ageod thing so maybe just insert a ______ there.

Chivalry.... gave up on it, my kill ratio was 1:2.  I recently purchased War of the Roses for $4.

Air to Air battles in Falcon... they seem to all shot at me and ignore my flight.

I'm legit bad at Rock Band. All my friends can do the guitar, the singing, the drumming on expert, and I'm just barely able to do it on medium difficulty.

Other games...I'm a terrible shot in WW2 flight sim games like IL-2, I prefer bombing runs since I feel its like shooting the ground with a shotgun.

I never tried FOTS as the Shogun side. I imagine it's a great deal tougher. I won vanilla as the Imperials and re-fighting the same campaign with the Darth mod which also increases the difficulity. And done a little fire-fighting myself while playing it. I'm also not real good at Silent Hunter 4 tending to rush my approaches and then rush to the bottom.

Most recently, Heroes of Newerth.  Technically it's an utterly brilliant game, but to be any good at it you have to know everything inside out...what the dozens of characters can do, what the dozens of items do, when to jungle, when to push, when to fall back because you get a feeling you're about to get ganked, etc.

Coupled with the rage-inducingly horrible community, it's a game I will never play again, even though in theory I absolutely love it.

Nuclear Dawn.  I generally suck at shooters anyway but I don't tend to play them much, but ND is a fantastic game.  My K:D is usually slightly below 1 which is obviously quite poor.  I can usually put up a good fight but I'm constantly being knifed by those ninja stealth bastards, and like someone else said up-thread, I'm often just slower than the other guy to pull the trigger.  Superb game though.
