Saw this last night and it looks like a cross between the original King Arthur game from Neocore and what I hope Warhammer Total War will look like when released by Creative Assembly. My only problem is that it appears to be MMO only...but I haven't confirmed that yet. Anyone know anything further on it, like if there will eventually be a SP campaign?

Sir Slash

Never heard of it before but there seem to be so many new games out I can't keep-up. Looks real good though.

I bought it a couple of years ago, I think.  Apparently they'd had some bad luck with their publisher and had to bring forward the release quite a bit; as a result the game was kinda buggy and...idiosyncratic (to be kind).

You begin by selecting one of three races, and then you're presented with your home city which is already minimally developed.  You start to build it up while taking a very odd tutorial, which sends you on quests around your home province while introducing you to the mechanics, units and building types.  Eventually you're encouraged to go trade with neighbouring cities, level up your units, and make war.

Building up your city consists of assigning worker units to harvesting resources, then deciding which buildings you want - dependent mainly on which units you'd like to field.  Buildings can be upgraded in order to give your units upgrades, and specialised buildings can be built to confer even better bonuses on your troops.

The community was very small at the time, but I understand some PvP was usually going on.  There was a clamouring for co-op against the AI which the devs were promising to implement.  The interface was totally crazy and not at all user-friendly, but gradually the game became easy to play.  It was vaguely interesting and showed some promise.

I haven't played in a long, long time but I've been reading the devs' emails, each one gushing about all the new features and bug fixes etc.  For my part, I think I'm definitely going to go back in.  Appearing on Steam has reminded me to have a go.  I got a Steam key for being a previous owner so I'm going to download it this weekend and take a look.

I'll post impressions if there's interest.

So what happens to your city while you are off-line?  Or is it not persistent

^Yeah good question. Crappy quote though :)

I had no idea the game was a rehash.

Cities are persistent, and your workers will continue to gather resources and build while you're offline.  Sorry but I can't remember whether you can be attacked while offline.

I came back after being offline for more than a week and most buildings and peeps were gone.

Really?  That's bizarre...it didn't do that back when I played it.  I wonder if they changed the system or whether you missed something.  I shall confirm all on the weekend!

Gusington

You are a good man Huw. I do wish there was a way to play against an AI though.

Perhaps I'm misremembering, but I thought there was a way to siege AI players or something.  Perhaps that was the co-op element they were talking about bringing in?

Ah yes, here we are:

QuoteTwo additional singleplayer modes - including open-ended World Conquest mode - Kingdom Wars, and content-packed single-player Skirmish mode with both Lay Siege and Castle Defense maps - guaranteed to satisfy players of various tastes and gameplay styles.

(Emphasis mine)

Also, Longdan:

QuoteWage war with neighboring regions or complete countless hours of quests as you unveil the dark secrets of Mythador while managing a persistent kingdom and economy with thousands of other players. Socialize, trade, forge alliances and - best of all - battle against other players across the world, defeat their armies, and burn their towns!

(Emphasis mine)

That would seem to indicate that your city will stick around.  Perhaps you hadn't played deeply enough into the tutorial or something.  The devs would be crazy to allow player cities to just vanish after a week of not playing.

Longdan

The place was still there and had my name on it but Timmy and most of my peeps along with most of the buildings were gone.
I will have to look again.  I got kinda pissed and logged off.

Huw are those quotes pulled from the game you played a few years back or the current release? I am going to look at Steam now to see if I see any mention of SP...well I'll be...there are two SP modes...anyone try them? The game is 14.99 and looks sweet.

I still have an account and will have to go in for another glance but I have some things to do this minute.
The game is pretty and resembles settlers to an extent.  The pace seemed slow but I am impatient sometimes.
The mechanics seemed simple enough but the tutorial was annoying with faux archaic english where people talk
would have done quite well.  I am going to give it another try.  I got it for almost nothing and spent too little time with it.
I still do not know what happened to Timmy.
