Disney has laid off the staff of LucasArts and cancelled all current projects.

Bummer...I enjoyed many a game from them  :(

It's sad from a 'games from the past' point of view, but Lucasarts hasn't really done much in the last...what...15 years?

Probably not quite that long -- KOTOR was a notable success -- but otherwise I concur with your statement.

It's sad news, but they've not put out anything truly decent in years.

Let's remember what they did put out though.  The following is a list of my absolute favorites from LucasArts:

  • Star Wars Rebellion (Supremacy for those on the other side of the Warp Pond)
  • Star Wars X-Wing
  • Star Wars Tie Fighter
  • Star Wars Empires at War and Forces of Corruption
  • Super Star Wars (SNES)
  • Super Star Wars Empire Strikes Back (SNES)
  • Super Star Wars Return of The Jedi (SNES)

Remember how awesomely awesome this was when it first came out?

Bison

Zombies Ate My Neighbors.  Still the greatest zombie/monster game ever.

Unfortunate news.  I had some found memories of Star Wars X-Wing

Here are some of my favorites:

Battlehawks 1942
Loom
Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe
Secret Weapons Over Normandy
Their Finest Hour: The Battle of Britain

I lost a lot of hours to BH 1942 and Their Finest Hour  :)

Here's a link to a list of all their games by platform: http://www.lucasarts.com/games/platform.html

-X Wing, TIE fighter
- Maniac Mansion & Day of the Tentacle,
- Monkey Island series
- Indiana Jones & Fate of Atlantis
- Full Throttle  (this was a great and overlooked game)
- Dark Forces, Jedi Knight

I'd put all of  these on my Windows XP VM asap.

Truly some of the most rewarding series I've ever owned.

Sad, but not surprising. LucasArts had been on the decline for some time. They did some fantastic games over the years though.

I am stunned. I wasn't even aware that Disney had acquired LucasArts in October 2012 until I saw this thread and started reading up on it.

R.I.P. another one of the great publishers of PC games (Monkey Island, Indiana Jones, Sam & Max, etc., etc.).  :(
Regardless of how good a PC game may be it will always have its detractors and no matter how bad a PC game may be it will always have its fans.

mirth

It's interesting to see how LucasArts evolved from not doing any Star Wars games in the early days, to doing almost exclusively Star Wars at the end. It's easy now to forget that they did some great flight and naval sims.

OMG how could I have forgotten about SWOTL and Their Finest Hour?  I lost a lot of time playing those games.   I remember the sense of loss whenever one of your named pilots was shot down.  Great games!

Strike Fleet!  Harpoon before Harpoon existed.
Jarhead - Yeah. You're probably right.

Gus - I use sweatpants with flannel shorts to soak up my crotch sweat.

Banzai Cat - There is no "partial credit" in grammar. Like anal sex. It's either in, or it's not.

Mirth - We learned long ago that they key isn't to outrun Star, it's to outrun Gus.

Martok - I don't know if it's possible to have an "anti-boner"...but I now have one.

Gus - Celery is vile and has no reason to exist. Like underwear on Star.

The Sam and Max series managed to flourish after escaping from Lucas Arts.  Could happen with other ex-Lucas Arts properties via Kickstarter.

I LOVED Sam and Max, along with Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe.  Man, all those friggen little floppies!!

At least the LucasArts brand remains.
Any time is a good time for pie.
