Just sent you a text MetalDog.  We're doing fine.  The little one keeps asking if we're safe and if our house is bulletproof.  Took me a little longer to help her to bed tonight than usual, but you can imagine what is going through an 8 year olds mind.

My wife works at a doctor's office in Arlington and she got to go home early today because the last patient she was supposed to see never made it out of her checkup being done at Mass General.  The patient is fine but Boston was in lockdown mode so she had to cancel her appointment.

My wife's friend finally posted on FB they're ok.. they were there, the did not get injured, they had to walk to Dorchester to get out of the city (Cell Phone's service was shutdown in the city - think they were trying to prevent the ability if possible to detonate more devices).. When they got to Dorchester they rented a U-Haul and rode home..My wife's Brother was also stuck in Boston, without cell phone, but he was ok and not near the blast (was in the vicinity earlier in the day though)..

Makes you wonder how they can have events like this in the future.. unlike a sporting event or concert, tough to impose security on something out in the open like this.

That picture of the sidewalk covered in blood says it all.. .So fortunate that there we so few deaths.. I'm sure some of those injured were probably pretty severe though. I hope they catch the bastard that did this!

According to this, three dead and at least 141 patients are being treated for wounds at local hospitals.

Such a horrible tragedy.

I was incensed that the very first question that was asked at the press conference held by local and fed enforcement was from some nutcase that asked a question along the lines of "Isn't this just another manufactured catastrophy to deny us of our civil rights?".

First guy on local radio today, after three hours of somber, heartfelt coverage, suggested this was a conspiracy and gave a .com that supposedly is notorious for putting forth such theories.  My question is, how do these nutjobs get to be as old as they are?

Man, I have about as healthy a distrust of the government as you can get and still stay on this side of "not crazy", and I do tend to consider the ulterior political motives of damn near everything that comes out of D.C., but it takes a special kind of nut to see conspiracies behind 9/11, Newtown and now this.   :P

My prayers go out to all who have been affected by this. I'm concerned that this could be an opener for more attacks on open-air events that draw substantial crowds in urban areas. It is hard to secure every side street, storefront, and doorway in a city such as Boston.

Nobody would want to live like that. It's better to close the borders to the countries that spawn them.

Or perhaps that's one of the enemy goals: immigration being the sincerest form of flattery, emigration to the Great Satan ought to be shut down. How to do that? -- get the Great Satan Itself to shut down immigration from the terrorist's home population.

No, I think they do simple asymmetric warfare. They do a small operation at minimal cost that gets the rich countries to divert millions from their economies. It is the only way they can fight. You can't be led around by the nose. Even if the ring hurts.

If all goods from the rest of the world were cut off they would be a simple feudal society. Farmers crow food. Warriors take the food for protection money. Same old middle ages/ feudal Japan. The important thing would be they are not a threat. The downside is companies want to sell more goods.

If they are knocked back to north korea level of economy will the people make changes themselves? They have had a taste of higher quality goods.
