DCS World- An Overview

Is flaming Cliffs part of DCS World? Or something totally separate?

Waiting for the imminent release of UH-1 Huey...some say maybe tomorrow.

And I won't play a flight sim without a TrackIR. It's that awesome.

Flaming Cliffs 3 brings Flaming Cliffs into DCS World as a module. Think of DCS:World as the base game. Everything else related is a module that plugs into DCS:World. It's sort of like DLC, but not really DLC.

Flaming Cliffs 1 and 2 were not compatible with other DCS products until DCS:World and Flaming Cliffs 3. FC3 allows you to go online and play multiplayer against someone flying any other DCS:World module...A-10, Blackshark 2, etc.

You have to have LOMAC to install and use FC3.

I've been thinking of picking it up as well, as I have a real urge to fly the MiG-29 lately.

Nefaro - I told you I was just about the only person in the world I know of that didn't like TrackIR ;D

I had no idea Huey was being released so soon. Does anyone know if it's a study sim or "lighter"? (I'll go and check over at DCS)

Honestly, I don't know why I'm going to get it since I don't really spend much time playing DCS...but I'm going to get it. ;D

Excellent...and +1 on why you're getting it. I don't spend as much time as I'd like playing these games - but I do want DCS to continue and will continue to support them if I can - I like their progress and like the way they are heading.

Does it make sense to get DCS World 1.2.3 now and the upcoming patch will bring it from 1.2.3 to 1.2.4
or will it be a 1.2.4 full release, and i have to download all those GB again?
( i remember reading that DCS games were a littel tricky with there updates n stuff ... that's why i got A10 from Steam)

Will my A10 (Steam version) work in DCS ... I've read in a forum entry that claimed: just display the CD# in Steam and entering it in DCW would do the trick?

I am waiting for the Huey too and want to be prepared ;-)
do you gents think its possible to fly the Huey without owning paddles ?

No idea. I do think they have streamlined the update process. It used to be a bit of a mare with manually downloading various files, but it seems to be incorporated in the DCS World environment now

Not sure to be honest - but there should not be any problems that I'm aware of with buying A-10C from other locations. I do know because I bought the BS2 upgrade as opposed to the full release I had to have BS1 installed - but that's about the extent of the issues I'm aware of with any DCS product

I hope so - as I don't have any. I can't see why not. If we can fly the dog that is the KA-50 at all - and also without pedals, then I'm sure the Huey would be fine.

One of the most beautiful fighter aircraft evah, IMO. So what if it has short legs and a small payload, it's smexy! :D

I got the BS2 'Upgrade' version from DCS quite awhile back. You still have to install the Steam version of BS1 and run it at least once before the Upgrade installer will detect it. After that, you can uninstall the Steam version of BS1, IIRC.

I've been messing around with A-10C a bit lately, and learning the how of it. It's a fair bit easier to learn than Black Shark was but that may just be due to not having Cyrillic-labelled cockpit instruments, being more familiar with US aircraft avionics, and not having to constantly d!ck with the trim (as you do with the Shark).

But I definitely need a TrackIR at this point. SA has always been a problem in flight sims, and these hardcore 'study' sims just exacerbate that problem. Looks like I'll be shelling out sometime in the near future for one before I get too deep into A-10C and BS2. I may mess with the Su-25T and Strike Fighters 2 in the meantime, if I need a fix.

I saw a thread on the SimHQ page that said Flaming Cliffs 3 is going up to $50 with the release of 1.2.4, which should be out along with Huey any day now. So, if you're sitting on the fence like me, it might be worth purchasing now rather than waiting.

Personally, I think I'm going to pass. It's too hard to go back to a non-clickable cockpit in a fast-mover at this point in my simming life, and I have the Su-25 to goof off with if I have an urge to fly Russian.

I just feel like FC3 is a step backwards, for me, at this point. I'm not suggesting it's not a fine product. And I reserve the right to change my mind whenever I feel like it!
