That actually happened about 10 minutes ago.

EDIT : LiveStream of scanner has gotten really quiet. Apparently FBI has taken lead, so local comms aren't exactly illuminating anymore.

Another note : Feds and local law enforcement executed a search warrant in New Bedford and arrested 3 in connection to Marathon bombing. Boston Globe is reporting that on their Twitter feed.

In a 'would be funny if it wasn't depressing', the Czech Ambassador had to issue a statement explaining that the Czech Republic is not Chechnya.

As many I was deeply shocked by the tragedy that occurred in Boston earlier this month. It was a stark reminder of the fact that any of us could be a victim of senseless violence anywhere at any moment.

As more information on the origin of the alleged perpetrators is coming to light, I am concerned to note in the social media a most unfortunate misunderstanding in this respect. The Czech Republic and Chechnya are two very different entities - the Czech Republic is a Central European country; Chechnya is a part of the Russian Federation.

As the President of the Czech Republic Miloš Zeman noted in his message to President Obama, the Czech Republic is an active and reliable partner of the United States in the fight against terrorism. We are determined to stand side by side with our allies in this respect, there is no doubt about that.

I see Massachusetts doesn't have the Death Penalty...wonder who gets jurisdiction on this case?

I would guess that it has to be local since there was no crossing of state lines

Jarhead or some other lawyerly type would be the best to answer this.  Also having no death penalty doesn't mean that they wont be regretting this for the rest of their lives.  Ask the shoe bomber Reid who is right now sitting in solitary in a super max and seeing one hour of daylight every two days if he would prefer to be dead.

In all likelihood he'll be charged with a Federal crime, which will carry the death penalty.

In exchange for his life, he'll have to sing like a bird.

It would be nice to see him charged as an enemy combatant and sent to Gitmo, but I doubt this administration has the balls to do that. There is also the minor detail of him now being a US citizen. It's likely he qualifies as an enemy combatant despite his citizenship, but I don't have much hope.

I'd think it's a Federal case, since it was an act of terrorism.

I know it goes against the whole gathering of information piece, but I'd rather the guy were just killed.  The trial and the politics around this are going to be a circus.

watching the press conference now.  watching the news unfold through 10-20 different sources is pretty remarkable.  big change from watching a single camera feed of Gulf I starting with the bombing in Baghdad in 1991...
