Marathon bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev, who was pronounced dead early Friday after a shootout with police, was a friend of one of three men found dead in an apartment in Waltham on Sept. 12, 2011, their necks slit and their bodies reportedly covered with marijuana.

Tsarnaev and his murdered friend, Brendan Mess, were both boxers.

Middlesex County District Attorney's Office spokeswoman MaryBeth Long said authorities are checking for any possible connection beteen Tsarnaev and the murders.

"We continue to follow all leads and will review any new information that may come to light in that case as a result of the investigation of bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev," Long said.

John Allan, owner of Wai Kru Mixed Martial Arts in Allston, told the Boston Globe that he had introduced Tsarnaev to Mess back in 2011. Allan described Tsarnaev as the "best boxer in Boston" but said he hadn't been back to the Wai Kru Mixed Martial Arts center in years -- at least not until this month, the Globe reported.

While Allan was on a trip to Thailand, he received an email from employees saying that Tsarnaev had showed up to the gym and had acted rude to other gym-goers. Allan said the incident was a sign that "something was up."

There were questions about whether to give the surviving Czernaev his rights. As he is a US citizen, that should be a no brainer. Talk about stupidity of even contemplating such a move. I have no problem with throwing a book at him, but that book better be a US Constitution, or we will be compounding the damage of the terrorism act.

I hate to sully this thread but the PC culture is insane. However if the bomber were white, male, conservative, Christian; the media would be falling all over themselves telling us why they did it. Now they seem to be looking for excuses to explain/justify the action for this asshole.

I'm not so sure. They haven't left any sort of trail of evidence that's been made public yet. I suspect that our first expectations are likely correct- it was some low-level 'jihad' of sticking it to Americans. But is there really something more than that or not?

The mother was busted for shop lifting like $1500 from the Lords and Taylor store (the video to catch these clowns came from that same store) last year. Good upstanding family to be sure.

Thankfully none of them was very good at their misdeeds.

I've also heard that the older brother is now being reviewed for a possible triple homicide - of his best friend and two others. Possible motive is a dope deal gone bad or something.
