Thought he latest 2.5GB patch-note-less patch is supposed to have fixed many issues.

It's not terrible but nothing really good about it either.
A very silly corridor third-person shooter, with some Co-Op elements and limited depth.
All set in a the Reboot-Trek universe.

That doesn't make it sound like it's worth £40. And I was just going to post on here and ask - are the graphics just bad because of the videos, or are they that bad in game? The videos I saw on Steam made the game look like a 2005 game

Don't pay £40. Wait for it to go on sale. £15-£20 is probably fair.

The graphics are OK. Slightly dated, but I put that down to it being a console game first.

Not just anybody can lead a gaming website. The vetting process is extensive. Grueling. And most candidates wash out in the first 24 minutes.

The more I play it the more I realize I like it because it's Star Trek. The graphics are fairly primitive and the gameplay wholly uninspired.

I don't mind it because it's fairly mindless entertainment. Its one true saving grace is that it's more like an interactive episode of a series than it is a game. Instead of watching Kirk shoot the Gorn, I get to do it. That's what's really fun. The plot is fairly light but it does move along and have some twists.

I'm a bit disappointed that - at least at this point - the game treats the Gorn as irreconcilable enemies rather than as the allies that they will become in Star Fleet Battles. The cynic in me says this was done to put as much distance between Amarillo Design Bureau and the reboot. Too bad, because ADB has some decent lore to work with and an excellent and proven gaming system.

I have to agree with the Gorn assessment. And no real reason to put it in a spoiler section.
You meet them right on the very first few seconds of the game :P

Not only they are not like the Federation allies they are in the Starfleet Universe, but they are not even remotely true to their TOS origins as well.

That's a good point. Yes they did. Vulcan was destroyed. The game picks up that thread and it drives a large part of the game.

IIRC, the reboot plays in a parallel universe created when Nero and his renegade Romulans (or are they Remans?) emerge from the future and disturb the timeline when they attack the USS Kelvin, creating a divergence of paths and the film follows the new timeline rather than the old, canonical, TOS path.

You're right about all that. Why it would radically change the Gorn is a bit beyond me, but what are you gonna do...

I'm pretty sure it's to put as much distance between the TV/movie folks and Amarillo Design Bureau. I've had conversations with folks in the know. Can't remember what - if anything - I can't share, but let's just say when TOS ended there was a big legal hole left wide open that the corporate types would love to fill but can't.

I rented Star Trek from the local redbox for the 360.  I actually was having a lot of fun with it and decided to purchase it when it got into my normal price range.  (Which for FPS's is >$30)  I was surprised to see it had such bad reviews.

Sometimes I think the gaming press goes into pihrana mode.  Listening to one podcast I heard the guys say that they'd gotten review copies of Star Trek but sent them back without playing it because of the bad reviews on other sites.  I guess that is modern day journalistic integrity...  (I nolonger frequent that site.)  Really the FPS genre is such a populist genre...I feel for anyone not making a Call of Duty sequel because if it isn't Call of Duty the press is going to be unrelenting.

Anyhow, its a decent game which reminds me the days of Elite Force.  I like navigating the Enterprise and the Co-op is fun to play with my daughter.

The last Star Trek game I was really interested in was Bridge Commander.  I played Klingon Academy the most, but a close second was Star Fleet Academy.  I played many a online game of SFA.  Though there was a unpatched bug/feature where if you pressed C-A-R quickly (Cloak, Alert, Red) a Bird of Prey could fire while cloaked...and as soon as everyone figured that out it was anarchy.
