Airborne Rifles

I just got home yesterday.  Just as I was leaving Afghanistan my brigade lost nine soldiers in six days.  One of them had been one of my medics before I left.  I'll be spending this weekend loving on my family and praying for my brothers and sisters still there.

Very sorry to hear about those losses. But you can be sure that everyone will rejoice to know that you are home safe and back with your family.

I grieve for your brigade's losses, but I'm (selfishly) glad you're back safe man.

For anyone who might be interested, this is a newspaper story about my maternal Grandfather.

Henry Homeier, son of Mr. and Mrs. Chris Homeier, who live near Binney Station, was home on furlough the past week, returning to Camp Taylor, where he is stationed, Sunday evening.  Mr. Homeier saw some active service in France and is now recuperating from the effects of a wound sustained in the St. Mihiel drive.  Henry was struck in the left arm at the elbow by a fragment of a high explosive shell, which penetrated the arm and struck him on the chest.  Mr. Homeier entered training on October 3, 1917, and after being in different camps in this country went "across," landing in France on July 4 and on July 19 went into action.  He was with a company of replacement troops and while he was never in the trenches he went "over the top" three times.  He sustained his wound on October 3, 1918, just one year after entering the service.  The shell which struck him killed one man and wounded seventeen others, besides killing two mules.  Henry is now in the hospital at Camp Taylor, pending the healing of his wound so as to permit his discharge.  Army life, despite the injury, seems to have agreed very well with him, as he gained 28 pounds in weight.

I'm sorry to hear that. Welcome back.

I believe it. More truth, less Hollywood.

Glad you are back AR. Sorry to hear of your losses.
