Yeah - congrats guys. Though listen to this...

I've just got over a night of vigil (first night) of my daughter being drunk and sick everywhere! Worst thing about it is - my wife was out with her! I thought she was in safe hands!

So I've washed 2 duvets, 2 duvet covers, 3 pillows and their covers, cleaned the hall carpet, living room carpet, bathroom carpet and the car upholstery! This mayhem was created by both of them!

I have YET to have time to break into Distant Worlds! :-(

Well...it's the second day after the "event"...and she mustered a thank you today...she's at the humble phase. I knew if I just threw the odd cursory disgusted glance her way she'd weaken a bit...so there's some chinks in the normally very resolute armour.

i see you play this every friday update Anguille - do you have any thoughts/review?

Hi there,

The game is clearly in the same style as the Cossacks games. The most similar game, imho, is the Alexander game (made for the movie) which has a big focus on the story around the hero. Heroes of Annihiltated Empires has strong RPG elements....the hero gains in experience, can use weapons and other stuff, and buy potions. The Hero also has magic spells which are crucial to win. If you like the artwork of Cossack games, you will also like this one. It's the most advanced engine GSC has produced and is solid. There are 16 scenarios (i have just started number 7) which can last more than hours each. Some are very difficult...i even had to use a cheat code (never do this) to win scenario number 5 (more money). An interesting thing is the presence of a lot of mythological creatures (like centaurs). If you like elves, it's a game you should enjoy.

Let me echo congratulations to Vyska and Jarhead for parenthood and welcome Vyska to the asylum, The Hotel-Grog-fornia. Good to see new wargamers on the way up. As well as Huw's wife bringing up new things as well. Truly the possibilities this weekend were endless. Except for the possibility of me beating Combat Mission anything. Maybe there'll be a "Combat Mission- Candy Land" module one day I can win. Still beats getting your prostate examined I guess.

Winding down the CKII craze for the moment I hope.  It is an addictive game.  At least I finally stopped playing FOTS.

Then probably some CLOD, RO2 and some boardgames (Successors and maybe the Burning Blue).

Things went well: worked on the game loft
                             Ran a few raids in the Burning Blue ( the Luftwaffe won the first one 8 to 0 -- convoys are hard to defend, the RAF won the second mostly because the convoy was way off by Portland, the radar spotted the raid 20 minutes out, the Hurricanes hit the 109s from high upsun and the Spitfires slaughtered the Stukas -- I had to pick the game up to move some shelves so I didn't tally the score)
                             Ran some CLOD -- the computer game always has more planes shot down for a given encounter -- my guess is it overdoes the damage -- even exploding me 110s were relatively rare.
                             And a lot of CKII
                             And some ARMAIII
                             I tried playing Sword of Rome with my almost-three-year-old (She hated Successors).  She took the Gauls and stomped on the Cartheganians -- quite literally -- I had to distract her with raw meat or she would have pounded the game to a pulp.  Oddly she refused the "Wild Beasts" option.  In fact I had to put all references to "Wild Beasts" back in the game box.  No wild beasts, just Gaulish loot boxes and merciless pounding on Carthage.
