I didn't have high hopes for World War Z, but I thought it might be a fun way to end a rough day at work.

However, when the Antonov AN-12 (with American markings and paint scheme) launched from a Nimitz class carrier, turned into a C-130 in the air, flew 7000 miles without refueling, and turned back into an AN-12 to land...refueled in 30 seconds and flew another 5000 miles (without refueling) I knew the rest of the movie was not going to go well.

I don't understand how they can spend millions to hire Brad Pitt, but not spend a few grand to hire a Groghead to tell them what plane goes where and for how far...  Then if your CGI'ing an AN-12, why swap the in air scenes to some stock footage of a C-130?

I'm a geek, and I know it...but things like that can really make a bad movie worse, or a good movie better.

This is a King Tiger....

According to the Battle of the Bulge movie....  :P

The Battle of the Bugle?  They should have moved the reverie time from 5am to 6am and not use a bugle.  That was what the battle was about.   ;D

But seriously even at 10 years old, which is how old I was when I first saw Battle of the Bulge, I was Grog enough to know that the tanks in that movie were not King Tigers.  Still I thought and still do think that that was a good movie.   8)

Typing too fast.... fixed it...
Yeah it's not a bad movie..... but still....

Steelgrave

Hate to say it, but the fake Tigers alone ruined the movie for me....you might as well have put the actors in a cardboard box and made them chant "clank, clank, I'm a tank". Stuff like this is one reason to appreciate good cgi/special effects in modern movies. Unless, of course, the folks making the show don't know one from another either, like Republic points out  :P

See I have a problem with CGI military hardware.  For one it looks so cartoony and cheesy I'd rather have an actor dressed up as a cardboard tank running around going vrooom vrooom pow pow.

Remember 'Enemy at the Gates'?  I puked my intestines bile out when I saw the CGI He 111 and Pz IV Ausf D's in the movie.  They didn't use the Ausf D by 1942, unless the unit didn't receive it's upgrades yet.  I doubt the movie makers were trying to realistically portray logistics though.  Then the CGI bombers that I mention looked like Han Solo flying the Kessel Run in less than 10 parsecs.

"Migs" from Top Gun......  :o

Steelgrave

^Oh God, I know! Another great example.

mirth

At least they made it a purely fictional MIG-28 and didn't try to pass it off as a real type.

Does anyone know what the Firefox actually was from that movie?

Because spending the $5k to bring in a grog to consult on equipment won't translate into a $5k+ return at the box office.

totally fictonal.  IIRC it was called a Mig-31 before we knew that they already had a Mig-31.
Jarhead - Yeah. You're probably right.

Gus - I use sweatpants with flannel shorts to soak up my crotch sweat.

Banzai Cat - There is no "partial credit" in grammar. Like anal sex. It's either in, or it's not.

Mirth - We learned long ago that they key isn't to outrun Star, it's to outrun Gus.

Martok - I don't know if it's possible to have an "anti-boner"...but I now have one.

Gus - Celery is vile and has no reason to exist. Like underwear on Star.

I know it was a fictional plane.  I'm asking what the actual aircraft was that they used in the scenes with the "Firefox," like in the hangar when he steals the plane, or when they're refueling on the submarine.
