Voyager 1 is now approaching the outer boundary of our solar system.  NASA has modelled what should be expected at this intersection of solar system and interstellar space.  And now that we are there, they are shocked to find out, they had no idea at ALL what to expect.

All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.

The little blurb gives way too little information and no speculation, but, how awesome is it that we are about to find out something we didn't already know or guess?!

I for one welcome our new Bow Shock Overlords.
Jarhead - Yeah. You're probably right.

Gus - I use sweatpants with flannel shorts to soak up my crotch sweat.

Banzai Cat - There is no "partial credit" in grammar. Like anal sex. It's either in, or it's not.

Mirth - We learned long ago that they key isn't to outrun Star, it's to outrun Gus.

Martok - I don't know if it's possible to have an "anti-boner"...but I now have one.

Gus - Celery is vile and has no reason to exist. Like underwear on Star.

So this thread caused me to rewatch Star Trek The Motion Picture. After which I determined it ranks #5 on my list of best-worst Trek films (not including the reboots, which I consider separate entities):

1. Wrath of Khan
2. Search for Spock
3. Voyage Home
4. First Contact
5. TMP
6. Undiscovered Country
7 on. Who cares? They were pretty much uniformly awful. Final Frontier is definitely at the bottom of the list, closely followed by Nemesis.

As far as the reboots go, the first was entertaining enough, but I'd probably rank it after TWoK, SfS and Voyage Home. I don't think the reboots  warrant a direct comparison to the original cast or TNG. The reboot stuff is just too different and overall I don't think it can ever fully capture the essence of the original.

Yeah, I totally rode the coattails of that movie for the V'ger bit in the title of the thread.  As for TMP, I saw it in the movies when it came out.  I was a kid, of course, but it rocked pretty hard.  And then we got Khan next, which I ALSO saw in the movies.  And being familiar with, and a fan of, the TV show, Khan was already a favorite.
