Can someone indulge me in a couple of very newbish Skyrim questions:

1. Does the world / enemies level up with you as in Oblivion?

2. Is the character leveling-up system still the arcane one used in Oblivion (where like you shouldn't run too much because you might accidentally level up -- what a pain in the arse) -- ?

3. If you haven't played it at all yet -- worth dropping $36 on? (I can guess the answer,but still...)

1. IIRC, in vanilla Skyrim level with you up to a level cap that's per enemy type. So a normal bandit will level with you up to say level 16, and bandit boss will level with you up to level 25 (NOT EXACT NUMBERS). I'm probably wrong, TBH I haven't played vanilla Skyrim since the construction kit was released.

2. No. Your skills still increase as you use them. So use one handed swords and your one handed skill gets better. Use bows and your archery gets better. You can still abuse the system, mainly the vanilla enchanting and smithing trees. However, the acrobatics (the skill that leveled when you ran or jumped) has been removed from the game. So running around and exploring won't level you on its own.

3. I have 572 hours played. I at least got my moneys worth and I paid full price. If you like the TES/Fallout games, I would definitely get Skyrim.

Thanks -- I just pulled the trigger on Skyrim with less than 3 minutes remaining on the 'flash sale' -- I feel like I won something (...namely, the privilege of paying Steam $36). 


...I'm not even going to try to d/l this for a few days given the traffic on Steam at the moment --

They must be getting a huge amount of traffic. The 'rest of the world' release of Civ 5 Brave New World probably isn't helping things either.

Happens during every sale, there.

I recall a year or two ago, when I purchased & gifted a game to someone during a Xmas Sale, it went missing for couple hours.  Nothing showed up.  So I figured that my checkout didn't actually go through.  I purchased it again and the second one went through after about 30 minutes. 

Come to find out.. my original purchase showed up some time later on, in my holding area.  The first purchased gift never went through in good time and it took quite awhile before it was ever put back in my account (the next day IIRC).  It can be a damn mess when they get backed up.

So if it seems that you've made a purchase, but everything isn't showing up.. try to wait it out & see before trying again.  At least.. if it's not a Daily Deal.   :-\

I had some updates moving at a snail's pace earlier.  Not to mention it wouldn't let me check out without getting that "server overloaded" message.

Maybe it's better now... I did just manage to finally check out once.

It's 99% done but the dl rate has slowed to a crawl in the last few minutes...about 100 kb/second :/

Will take another 45 minutes to finish the last 1% of the game...

Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion is downloading at 2.5 to 3 MB/s for me right now. 20% complete. Took 4 attempts to for my purchase to go through.

I was afraid this was going to happen...I pretty much have almost everything I can think of that I want off of Steam.   :(

Looking at Counterstrike Complete, though.  Anybody still play that?  I don't like the multiplayer only aspect, but I could get into it maybe.  How does it compare to...well to anything?  Can I play it online with just my son and I against bots?

Edit: Meh.  Watched some Youtube vidoes of CS and it's definitely not for me.   ::)
