Pacific storm pack : Includes 2 items: Pacific Storm, Pacific Storm Allies just £2.24 on steam
another great deal for your consideration at this price, its just giving it away

Ive never played these, but it looks like a strategic map, and levelup up units, RTS, grand stategy, simulation in one

I tried to play but never really played long enough.  It is quite detailed and I never really grasped the strategic concepts.

Pacific Storm is, in my opinion, a phenomenal game with a crippling flaw....it runs horribly slow.  Late game with huge fleet battles used to run at 4 fps on my Core i5 2500K.

I heard, however, that the non Steam version has support for multi-core cpu's so you might be better off trying a different distribution.  In my Steam version there is a checkbox to enable multicore support, but it is greyed out.

Is there any way to force multithreading, say, through the nvidia control panel (assuming you have a nvidia card?)

This is one game I've long been interested in but could never get a good read on, beyond a sense of "Not bad, but definitely flawed."  I enjoyed Battlestations Midway, idiotic cinematics and all.  Are the two comparable?

There is no way to fix it, it can't be fixed in the graphics control panel because it isn't GPU limited but CPU limited...or maybe just poorly coded.

The closest equivalent is the Pacific Theater of Operations series on consoles.  More realistic than a realtime strategy, but not a wargame.

I haven't seen the problem with "Allies"...but definitely with the first title.

I have the STEAM version and have played a decent amount of time.  After scouring the internet for fixes to CTDs and graphic display issues I finally got the game to work.  It was real fun building up the military with all of the units you can order from your factories.  The economic and research model was pretty interesting as well.

Where this game goes to hell is when war breaks out.  The first territory that you lose to the enemy forces you to recapture it before a certain time limit.  If you fail that is strike one against you.  If you fail to recapture a second lost territory that's strike two.  If you fail on a third territory that's strike three and you lose no matter how much of the map you have conquered.

The game had potential but with those draconian restrictions set on the player if they lose a certain amount of territories the game is unplayable.

Stay away unless you enjoy wasting an entire weekend getting the game to even run never mind playing it only to find out that after 15 hours of play time you lose because you couldn't recapture some lost land.  It's ridiculous.

Man that's too bad. It sounds so promising, but I definitely do not want to deal with these kind of headaches just to get it to run properly.

I could really get into a pacific theatre game that's not too deep (WitP) but not shallow, and that looks good to boot. Pacific Storm seems like it could fit t
he bill, but sounds like I should just stay away.

I feel the same as you Sandman.  There hasn't really been an approachable PTO game since...PTO on the SNES.

I want something that has all the major ships aircraft and important bases.  Give me some resource problems and throw in some ability to continue past 1945 (include ships/weapons that were on the drawing boards or came later).

I don't need every armor thickness rating and have to one by one ferry every can of Spam...I just need something that feels like it is historical.  When I click on the Arizona, I want a picture that looks like the Arizona.  The Arizona should be slow and thirsty and have bad AA...but refittable.  Yadda yadda, you guys know what I mean.

I got the option for multithreading :) but still to tryout the game
