The key to surviving this site is to not say something which ends up as someone's tag line - Steelgrave

Poking around I have seen some pretty civil discourse here, disagreements of course but that is why we are all not clones of each other.

Question having seen how things degenerated at the wargamer site driven by a few who were uber zealous in their views and or political affiliation has there been any though given on how to handle similar situations here?

My bottom line is that I enjoy a good discussion and point counter point as the next guy but as you gain more members you will invariably attract those who wish to express their viewpoints (sometimes too forcefully or to often) to the detriment of the more silent masses?

However congrats to everyone who so far have kept the discussions interesting and lively without flaming anyone

Yes. Right now we've got a great group of guys - most of us have known each other for some time from over at WG.

Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on the perspective, I suppose) I left Wargamer about 18 months ago. While I am far from perfect as a mod/admin, it's my understanding that most of the problems degenerated after I left, and were largely a combination of the mods not being empowered to take action and general lack of attention from the management.

To that end the organization here is very flat. The guys that run the site on a day-to-day basis are the ones empowered to make decisions regarding any problems that might crop up.

BayonetBrant, Gusington, Son_of_Montfort, SteelGrave, Jarhead, and I are the go-to guys if there's a problem.

Even with that many mods we may not see every post, nor may we at first see it in the same light as someone else. If you see something objectionable or offensive, do not hesitate to bring it to our attention.

We want GrogHeads to be a safe, fun place to hang out and we will work to ensure that flame wars are kept under control.

So how was your trip?

Not bad – a few little glitches. Like transferring to the shuttles at the Ft. Lauderdale airport seemed to take forever. The only real serious snag came when we had to be tendered in at Grand Cayman and they ended up with people stuck on the stair ways in the ship for close to 2 hours. About half missed their excursions. It wasn't pretty – people screaming at one another, etc... Probably wouldn't ever do Carnival again – shitty organization. Most of the staff were great and the 24 hr ice cream and pizza was a big draw for Mig's Jr.

We didn't get into Costa Maya as the water was too rough – 8ft seas. So there were no ruins to see. Roatan was nice – the snorkeling wasn't bad (not as good as Cozumel). The security in Cozumel was very heavy – saw one Hummer with well armed troops and two converted pick-ups with 5 soldiers each in full cam and balaclavas. The troops in the first truck had full-length old school looking variants of M-16's and the soldiers in the 2nd truck had H&K G3's with 40mm grenade launchers underneath and a pintle-mounted version of the G3 over the cab with a belt of ammo. Wild !!!

Overall a good time was had by all !
