So last weekend we toured Chicago and specifically the Institvte of Art. We knew it had to be fancy because they used v's for u's.

Anyway, I took some pictures and thought some of you might enjoy viewing these. I'll do my best to piece the images and texts back together correctly but apparently in the upload process the sorting may have been disarranged. As the chronological sequence was the only order I had, I might make a mistake or two but I'll do my best to work from memory. Sorry - wasn't taking notes. We had kids in tow and they wanted to move a bit faster through this part than I did.

Anyway, the first images I'll lead with are fragments of glassware that was likely used by wealthy romans. Even today I think we'd consider ourselves well off if we were able to sip our water from a cup with these handmade designs. It certainly wears well over time.

BTW these were backlit to amplify the colors.

All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.

This is the cover the Gospels for a Bishop.

Various spoons.

I have to wonder how they survived the centuries without being melted down for plunder. I wonder how many of these were lost as they were melted?

I could have sworn I took some pics of some old coins but can't find them for anything.

I do have more. Will post them shortly.

Those spoon engravings are like how we quote sigs around here. If we were partying in ancient Rome, I could well see us all having these spoons made for each other!

A silver chest.

Peering inside it...

Thanks, Britain!

Another silver chest, this one for bathing supplies. So much for your cool little plastic shower caddy...

And that is, unfortunately, the end of my images. Sorry. I'll have to go back and take more.

No apologies necessary man.  You have a fine selection posted already.

Yeah, but Boggit and I were chatting offline about the coins. I could have sworn I took some images :(
