Nixon did the same thing during the Vietnam war when domestic political scandal dogged his administration.  The idea was to freak people out over the prospect of nuclear war that they would ignore his administrations indiscretions.  It didn't work for Nixon then, and my gut tells me it won't work for Putin now.

Sabre rattling to distract the masses, nothing more. Its a fine tradition in many countries. Comes at a time when the EU and the US are (maybe) ramping up for intervention in Syria.

Speaking of sabre rattling, who paid off the norks? Its been quiet over there. The norks are why I believe the Japanese are getting their military shit together.
My doctor wrote me a prescription for daily sex.

My wife insists that it says dyslexia but what does she know.

^Except for China.

Saber rattling is a tradition in every country.

Except for us Canucks.  Our sabre was decommissioned due to budget cuts and fears of being culturally insensitive and a symbol of white male privilege.

Now if we're mad, be put our snowballs in the freezer over night before we chuck one at you.

When I rattle my saber it sounds like this.

All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.

You've been hanging around Gus too long.

Sometimes saber rattling is just threatening another nation.
All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.

Canada has rattled its saber while being part of a 'coalition of the willing' at various points. Look how well Canada did in WWI and WWII! Rattled that saber and then broke it over Germany's head!

I've said it before and I'll keep saying it:

My Dutch paternal grandmother told me to thank every Canadian I met for liberating her town from the Germans.

On my Oma's behalf I thank you Canadians who served, who raised those who served, and who supported those who served.  :)

I have a Canadian bayonet and hat from WWI that I got at an estate auction and years ago. Presumably the guy moved to the US after the war. Not sure if the bayonet is unpacked yet. I think I have some images I took of the armory stamps, which would help place the regiment.
