During filming of Airplane, Leslie Nielsen used a whoopee cushion to keep the cast off-balance. Hays said that Nielsen "played that thing like a maestro"

That female engineering student in the sweater was hot. ;)


I found it slightly unsettling that the clip with the rocket taking off accompanied by rosy-glow hyperbole about our future in space was actually of a V-2, the 'Großvater' of the ICBM.

At least it wasn't taken at Peenemunde...

I know this is the stuff you crusty old folks grew up with so it is not new to you but that was very interesting to watch.   :P

To put it in perspective, this machine was greatly advanced over the bombes that broke the enigma code.
And even more advanced than the Japanese PUrple machine, and the equipment we developed to read it.

When I was in college they still had some punch cards. I deliberately played a bit with it because I knew it wouldn't be long before they were entirely gone. It was archaic when I was in school and I knew it would probably be my last chance to see one.

Ugh.  Actually had a class with an IBM mainframe, time share, and punch cards.  First project was writing a program to balance your checkbook.
