I tried the demo for some of the SC games and often found the turn processing painfully slow.....has that been improved with newer versions?  On average, how long does it now take to process a turn?

I have not had that problem with a 2 year old Falcon Northwest Talon.  But I am running a powerful gaming rig.

That's interesting...I have a pretty powerful rig too....maybe I will have to try again at some point.

I think the turn processing on the grand WWI scenario can be rather long.   Not Pride of Nations long, no, but longer than most turn-based games.

It's not too bad considering the AI will give you a challenge.  :D

Ive never had a problem with turn time in SC.  I have had the game hang on me at times during its turn though.
Jarhead - Yeah. You're probably right.

Gus - I use sweatpants with flannel shorts to soak up my crotch sweat.

Banzai Cat - There is no "partial credit" in grammar. Like anal sex. It's either in, or it's not.

Mirth - We learned long ago that they key isn't to outrun Star, it's to outrun Gus.

Martok - I don't know if it's possible to have an "anti-boner"...but I now have one.

Gus - Celery is vile and has no reason to exist. Like underwear on Star.

I liked Guns of August and never really had a problem with the interface that I can recall.  I liked the game well enough to do a map and counters mod for it in fact.  I haven't been in a WWI mood for some time and thus haven't played it but might have to break it out again soon.

Thanks all...I am pretty comfortable getting the SCWWI bundle, with Breakthrough. I'm going to order the physical copies this weekend.

Frankly, the SC graphics make the game a non-starter for me. I don't need much, but a halfway decent looking map adds to a strategy game and SC doesn't have it.
Initially, I wasn't expecting much from SCWW1 Breakthrough - naively drawing the conclusion from the graphic style that it was pretty much an Axis and Allies, Beer and Pretzels type game. In fact it is deceptively deep with some very subtle gameplay. Check out my review of it: http://grogheads.com/rev-scwwi.html

I found the graphics on Dominions3 disappointing, but there is one of the deepest fantasy wargames you can find on the market, and I still have it on my hard drive.

Both are Quality games. If you'll excuse the analogy - Don't judge a book by it's cover.

Funny you should mention both SC and Dom3, as I also think they both have bad map art but good content.   ;D
Dom3 is way worse than SC though for map art. On the plus side there is no issue with clarity, the map art is easy to read when playing.
The most shocking fact about war is that its victims and its instruments are individual human beings, and that these individual beings are condemned by the monstrous conventions of politics to murder or be murdered in quarrels not their own. Aldous Huxley

On a good day, our legislature has the prestige of a drunk urinating on a wall at 4am and getting most of it on his shoe. On a good day  ::) Steelgrave

It's kind of silly to investigate whether or not a Clinton is lying. That's sort of like investigating why the sky is blue. Banzai_Cat

Good purchase. It really does have that "just one more turn" factor. Don't forget to download the patches, which give you the updated WW2 scenario, and the Franco Prussian War scenario - all good stuff. :)

^Definitely. The Franco-Prussian War scenario is one of the big draws for me.

Looks like you're gonna need that gas mask Gus. Better hang on to it.

Since I can't quite manage to find a fourth player for GUNS OF GROGUST (yet), I'm thinking of picking up SCWW1:B and playing a parallel grand campaign with an AAR comparing it with WW1G as I go along. (I'd make it a trifecta, or a quadfecta with the original Guns of August which I already have, but I'm not sure I'm up to that, and between the other three I want SC's smaller scenarios.)
ICEBREAKER THESIS CHRONOLOGY! -- Victor Suvorov's Stalin Grand Strategy theory, in lots and lots of chronological order...
Dawn of Armageddon -- narrative AAR for Dawn of War: Soulstorm: Ultimate Apocalypse
Survive Harder! -- Two season narrative AAR, an Amazon Blood Bowl career.
PanzOrc Corpz Generals -- Fantasy Wars narrative AAR, half a combined campaign.
Khazâd du-bekâr! -- narrative dwarf AAR for LotR BfME2 RotWK campaign.
RobO Q Campaign Generator -- archived classic CMBB/CMAK tool!

Sir Slash

I expect to hear soon of the success of the "von Gusington Plan" in winning the WWI.

I would've probably jumped at the multiplayer game opportunity a year or two ago, but my backlog is so huge these days I'm not gonna get around to revisiting WWI Gold for another 18-36 months (approx.).  :(

Gusington

I'll play PBEM in this once I get it. I suck too so prepare for a victory. I could not beat our own Shelldrake or the AI in C: TGW.
