Umm so I've never had much of a desire to play EUIV but being able to continue my dynasty beyond one game into another just seems awesome!   I wonder what the conversion will look like.  Will it pick up the "next year" or will there be some time elapsing and events happening before you come back and just play guys with the same names?

It should probably be noted that EUIV is a more traditional strategy game, where you control a nation-state rather then as the head of a dynasty. I imagine that what ever each dynasty will have to be translated into a nation in EUIV.

I wonder if you have to use a game that is right at the end of CK2 in order for this to work. I still have all my Kingdom of Italy save games but am still 200-150 years short of the end of the game.

It would seem that it doesn't matter the date in your CK2 game that you convert. Any date will get exported to 1440 in EUIV, and all of the states will get converted to EUIV. Bring on the Italian conquest of the Renaissance.

Will the conversion utility be available only to those who preorder or will it eventually be released 'into the wild' so to speak? It's about the only thing tempting me to preorder right now.

I would think the conversion feature would come with all versions of the game. 

These days, what with all the DLC milking, who knows for sure?  One thing that marketing scheme promotes is the, "we'll just release the game earlier and charge for the extra features we had originally planned in post-release DLC."

A dutch games site mentions that the converter is a pre-order bonus only.
This is pretty awesome. If you grow attached to your version of the world in CK2 you can go at it even further in EU 4. Neat idea!

After reading the Paradox developer diary, it sounds like it is free for pre-orders, everyone else will have to pay $9.99 for it.

I like how it essentially makes a mod for EUIV out of your CK2 save. So in theory all the minor independent counts/dukes will get converted. From listening to the twitch stream yesterday at work, it sounds like the conversion scripts can be edited. Converted games also work in MP games.

IIRC they said during the stream that it was free for pre-orders and would be paid DLC for everyone else. They got a question that asked them about preorder DLC not being available to people who didn't preorder and they said preorder DLC would never not be available later as a separate paid DLC.
