Maxis announced new sim city. It sounds great if they are able to deliver on promises, really detailed.

See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vS0qURl_JJY for game engine in action.

OMG!!!  This is now tops of my must have games.  I love Simcity.

apart from a warsim/wargame/pbem on a rainy sunday afternoon with a cup of tea to sip whilst thinking despicable plans there is no finer waste of time than Sim City-ing!

It looks pretty glorious! Too bad the release date is 2013.

I can't wait to see what they do with this new SimCity.

it needs to be on line to start up - boooooooooo  :'(

you wont be kicked if the connection is lost but it wont start without being on line - odd for a single player game, and not really a deal breaker for me, but travelling often as i do sometimes i havent got a net connection and now cant play a game ive paid for!

^ I saw that as well.  Disheartening to say the least.  Hopefully if there is enough out cry from the community they may consider changing it.

Well this *is* an EA-published title, after all.  Some form of draconian DRM was only to be expected.

Yeah, that's why I don't buy EA games. I also read that there's a 5-install limit.
Regardless of how good a PC game may be it will always have its detractors and no matter how bad a PC game may be it will always have its fans.

I'm going through one of my I don't care about DRM phases, where I just want to play the games I want.  Next week that may change however.

If Bison manages to craft a spear we'd better all look out.

The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.

Here is a quote I found about having to be online;
Quote
Lead designer Stone Librande confirmed that SimCity would be an internet-dependent experience. Players will need to be online on Origin while playing, even if that wasn't the point of purchase. The always-on connection becomes necessary with the game's emphasis on multiplayer and regional impact, and the use of a global economy that all players can influence.[/quote

That sounds like the exact same thing they tried with Cities 2010 (I think that was the year).  I guess it could be interesting, but honestly I don't care what you are building in your city and certainly don't want it to effect my city or game.  I just like to play around and build my cities and glorius solitude.
