I didn't mean to turn you off PE. It's still a great campaign. And even though the battle AI isn't great, the campaign AI can be very good especially at higher difficulty levels and the Realm Divide is a lot more friendly. Echo the agents importance. They can turn the tide in a campaign or ensure victory. And... get sweet revenge on those traitor, bastard generals.

I don't think you did, just identified the reason I am really like *meh with the game.  I may give it another go with a FoTS campaign, but I found the vanilla just to bland and boring even though I have it at a higher difficulty.  I guess I played so much RTW that I am use to the variety of units etc.... in the end the vanilla campaign just feels too repetitive....

I am ready for my assault on Kyoto in my Shogun 2 campaign. Any tips?  :)

Bring lots of men. Kyoto is a bear in a cave to take. If you have more than one army attacking, attack from different directions. The AI will sometimes split it's attention almost entirely on the greatest danger and ignore your 2nd force allowing it to scale the walls more easily. Banzai!.

I brought lots of men to my assault on the Shogun's castle, 2 half strength armies and 1 full army that had 3 seige engines. There was 1 Shogunate army in Kyoto and another outside. At the start of the turn I was actually facing 3 full Shogunate armies but was able to sucker one army into engaging one of my armies (1 star general vs my 2 star general) and wiped it out at a cost of about 25% of my troops.

I started the assault by knocking out 3 towers, 3 outer gates and one inner gate by bombardment. A large number of defending archers were also killed during the bombardment. The Shogunate army outside the castle made a run to get inside but then foolishly tried to take out my seige engines and got badly mauled in the process. Then I moved up my archers with infantry protection and started to reduce the number of defending troops. Once my arrow supply was exhausted my infantry assaulted through 3 different gates and in hard fighting gained the upper hand. "My lord, a glorious victory will soon be yours" was music to my ears, the end of a long campaign was in sight...at which point horrors of horrors my game crashed! Argh!!!

Now I have to do it all again from my last save. Hopefully turning down some details fix the crashing problem.

Oh yeah. Forgot to mention-- the game cheats like my ex-wife. Or it could be if you win, the game has to commit suicide. It's an honor thing.

I always like the line when your ships run out of movement, "Droop Anchor".

That like when you do something really bad in a FPS and you tell your friends on TeamSpeak "My mouse hit the keyboard"!

I tried the battle again with reduced settings and got the crash again so decided to let the game advance a season and try the assault again. This time the game didn't crash and I handily took Kyoto with minimal casualties - got to love those siege engines and samauri archers! I managed to hold on to Kyoto for the required year and was declared Shogun with a couple of months to spare in the Hojo campaign. Sure is nice to win this after having the game hand me my @$$ in a number of previous attempts!  :) Next run through will be FOTS using the same Darthmod.

Well done Shell. Way to show that damned game you're not going to roll-over and give up. Hojo's everywhere celebrate your victory.
