So, Grim Dawn (by the Titan Quest crew) is coming...?

This is going to sound extremely random, but I ran across this page while looking for how to run the 90s Space Hulk game on D-Fend. (Long story.)

Apparently, veterans from Iron Lore, mostly known for the excellent Titan Quest duology (a Greek mythy answer to the Diablo games), as well as their work on the final Dawn of War 1 game Soulstorm (which I'm finally working through a campaign on, by the way, after years of playing only skirmish and mp with it), are hard at work on a Victorianesque steampunk Diabloish game, to be released through Steam. Alpha has been out since May this year, don't really know much about progress than that -- and I'm definitely not going to invest in alpha development again for a while (Mechwarriorish grin), but I'm certainly hoping they can pull it together and release something awesome on Steam etc.

I'm cautiously interested in this. I'm pretty much done with this type of game, but I have a lot of respect for the devs; Titan Quest was a very, very good game. I want to know what they're doing to bring something new to the table, though.

This has been discussed many thanks here and back at the WG.

They were taking beta-preorders long ago and had a PayPal problem, later they launched a Kickstarter, and then again into PayPal.

The beta has been available for a while via Steam.

I didn't realize they have a Beta buy-in. ??? Don't think I want to spoil it just yet, anyway, but that's nice to know.

Hrmm.. I'm not seeing it. Are you just saying that it's been approved for future Steam release?

This actually was the first game I bought into on the basis of prediction...
They haven't contacted me at all about the shift to Steam and the Alpha being available, yet I paid for the big box of goodies... Kind of dissapointing.

Havent tried any of the builds so far even though I am in since day one. Perhaps I should start to take a look, but last time I checked only a small portion of the world seemed available ...
I'll download later today and post impressions.

Ugh. Social media sites as an update venue sucks. That page is a mess, as is normal with Facebook.

Perhaps someone here will start it up soon and tell us what's yet to be done. :D I plan on picking this up sometime, but probably not until it's feature complete, at least in the beta stage. It's another one of those games that has been in open development for years and seems to be moving at a snail's pace.

If someone's making something I'm interested in but their only web presence is a Facebook page, they drop off my radar fast.

Last I checked, they had their own game website and forum.

But yeah, I also don't bother checking in on them if their preferred method of public announcement is via 'social media' sites. I suppose it helps avoid any extra pre-release hype, so at least it helps avoid the itch for release date.

It's a cheap and tacky way of getting people to do their marketing for them. Some developers have gone as far as to offer the "reward" of screenshots in exchange for a certain number of "likes" on Facebook. Eurgh.

There is a normal website with forum and All about the game.

I fired it up and its quite clear that the crew did Titan Quest. It comes across as TQ in a different outfit. Only Act 1 is available in this alpha version and not All gameplay features are in.
Still it looks like a good game so far and if you are into hell / witchhunter kinda stuff and liked TQ for its gameplay, this one will likely be a winner too. :)
Not much more to report at this time really .
