Martok, shouldn't that thread title have been "Holy Fleck Batman" for better topical clarity?  ;D

I for one am perfectly fine with Batfleck, in principle. If he has good material he'll be good, if not he won't, so we just have to hope that he guys who gave us TDKR and MoS will be able to give him good material.

For whatever that's worth. ;)

There's also buzz that he's in strong consideration to direct the Justice League movie. There's precedent for this, since the last time Ben turned down playing Batman (at the time he refused to do anymore superhero movies after Daredevil) WarnerBros was making him an explicit offer to direct JL at the same time. The offer isn't explicit yet, but is still expected.

I'm moderately okay with the theatrical cut of DD, and watched the director's cut for the first time a few days ago after hearing the news. I don't think there will be any problems on Ben's side. (Just dub his voice with Kevin Conroy when he's in the suit.  ;D )

Okay, what is it with mirth and I getting mixed around lately?  I swear, that's like the 4th-5th time in the last couple months that one of us has been called by the other's name.  :P

I still disagree.  Affleck has a tendency to play characters who display a fair amount of angst -- something the Dark Knight traditionally does not do (at least not in the way Ben does).  No matter the material he's given, I still see him playing a whingey/emo Batman, which is pretty much the opposite of what fans (even the casual ones) are going to want to see.

I would have no problem with him as the director.  With The Town and now Argo, he's certainly got the chops for it.

Ha!  That would be hilarious.

I love Conroy.  If we include him as one of the Batman actors, then he's unquestionably my favorite.

I scrolled down to what I thought was the first post, and I thought I recalled it being the first post, but it was actually yours (around the 3rd post): the backhistory scroller during comment composition has a limit and on a long thread doesn't always reach back to the very start.

I don't know about the other times, but that explains mine. :)

Quote from: Martok on September 07, 2013, 10:12:48 AMI still disagree.

I'll give you that point; which may also disturbingly explain why he was chosen (aside from having Daredevil experience but older now): because whatever its strengths, the Nolan Batman films are crawling with whingy emo angst for Bruce Wayne. Man of Steel had a tendency to follow suit (pardon the pun).

Still, I think Ben has the talent to do better if he's given the material (and the direction) for it.

On the other hand, if they're going to have an older more experienced Batman, maybe they should have offered it to Clooney, because while I'm not sure he could bring enough difference in his voice as Batman (so that he doesn't sound like George Clooney and thus obviously like Bruce Wayne) he's aged well enough to bring some grit to the role as well as an Oceanic cleverness (while retaining Ocean's suavity as Wayne). He'd be repaying fans for B&R, too. And I think it's important to realize, though this isn't well known, that despite how it may seem on screen, documentary footage during shooting (and interviews years afterward even when critical of the final product) indicate that pretty much everyone on the Burton series of films (he did stay on as producer) absolutely loved being there and enjoyed working on them, and wanted the final product to succeed. Clooney certainly included.

Same here. There's precedent in a way, too, because the anime intraquel miniseries "Gotham Knight" between BB and TDK originally featured Bale!Bat but was redubbed with Conroy. (Supposedly to please the fans, but probably because the weaknesses of his Batvoice became much more prominent in animation.)

Nah, Clooney had his whack at Batman already.  I can't imagine that they'd give him another kick at the can.

so much for this movie....

Justin Bieber might be Robin  ::)
Jarhead - Yeah. You're probably right.

Gus - I use sweatpants with flannel shorts to soak up my crotch sweat.

Banzai Cat - There is no "partial credit" in grammar. Like anal sex. It's either in, or it's not.

Mirth - We learned long ago that they key isn't to outrun Star, it's to outrun Gus.

Martok - I don't know if it's possible to have an "anti-boner"...but I now have one.

Gus - Celery is vile and has no reason to exist. Like underwear on Star.

I saw that; I'll only believe it if/when it's confirmed by more authoritative sources.

If true, though, then yes the movie is officially DOA.

I gotta disagree with you on that one.  Aquaman is still ten times more masculine (sad to say).

That will be the tagline for an Aquaman movie, "Not as gay as The Bieb".
